Transmission Tires wear unevenly Brake Rotars Value depreciates quickly

Boy!! I can't wait to get rid of this truck...but i am sure that as you all know or are about to find out I can't get rid of it. The resale value depreciates faster than I can pay on it; and there is no market for this piece of junk. From everything form tires warpping to the transmission. We've bought this truck with 26,000 miles on it and now have 65,000, it's V-8 360 (the largest) and you can't even pass a Volkswagon. The transmission shifts to hard and won't shift down when you need, etc. And yes the AC SUCKS!! verses blows. :) Good Luck and take the advise of most people on this site...DON'T BUY IT!!! This truck has ruined me from ever buying another Dodge or saying good things to a prospective Dodge buyer.

Strength:

comfortable, heavy, felt safe, really liked the third row seating

Weakness:

everything else

It has been one year since I rid myself of my Dodge Durango and I still have nightmares. I experienced many of the same problems that have already been reported here. Numerous problems including many trips to the repair shop for the nonfunctioning power windows and warping brake rotors. The brakes and rotors were replaced three times in one year. Oh, did I forget to mention BALL JOINTS, didnt even know what these were until I owned a durango. Last but not least, the failed transmission at about 50,000 miles. the only solution for the air conditioning is to purchase the rear air unit and even that isnt great.

Very Very Bad Airconditioning system ! I WILL NEVER BUY A CAR FROM THIS MAKER AGAIN !

I live in Arizona with 100+ Degree Heat . The Airconditioner in this Durango is very very poor . The side vents hardly work in this car . Our new baby was the main reason we purchased this SUV . I HATE to use it to transport my 16 month old ! **It is very disheartning to pull your Baby out and find that their back is drenched in SWEAT !** I have Never had this problem with any of my other (8 in the past 10 years)Cars or Trucks ! SIX thumbs DOWN ! (Moma ,Papa & Baby)

Strength:

Its great how Dodge refuses to stand behind their product 7yr 70,000 mile warrantee is great but it helps to have the vehicle WORK some of the time

Weakness:

See Above list of problems.

Beware of the Dodge Durango. We bought this excuse for a tough vehicle in December of 2001. I have never had such a fuss with a vehicle is all of my life. It is actually my wife's SUV but the problems that have to be fixed come out of my pocket. So far in 41,000 miles Had to replace brakes 3 times Had to be towed on several occasions for various reasons. Once it just would not start, twice fuel was not being burned correctly which caused it to convulse and die repeatedly, twice for the fuel pump not working after it sits at my wife's office all day and then we've had it towed another time because the wheel bearings were making a loud thunking noise every time we'd turn right and the right side of the vehicle would bounce up and down (didnt seem safe to drive on) Transmission shifts extremely rough and jerky in the morning Fuel does not register sometimes Have had numberous Check Engine lights coming on (the picture of the engine) Third row of seats is offically jammed and will not release (cannot fold them) Currently averaging 10.8 miles per gallon

Third row of seats

Weakness:

Rotors, radio controls, Third row seat access

I was really attracted to the look of the 2002 Durango's. The third seat is what pushed us into it from a Jeep. It rides rougher than I'd like and the rotors have warped. The radio volume control is broke-when trying to raise or lower the volume the radio shuts off for a few seconds and goes back to the same volume. The second row of seats are hard to get down to access the third row. We have all the extra's available for the SLT and now can't wait for the lease to be up in 2 years, 7 months.

Strength:

Power , handling and eye apeal.

Weakness:

Air conditioning (very poor), rear seating small and flimsy, fuel econemy should be better for a small SUV , I had a Suburban that got as good on hiway !!

Ride and handling OK for size , good power (small V-8 ),creature comforts OK, fuel economy not as good as we were led to believe ( 19 mpg best on interstate), AC felt fine in January when we bought it , but by June it is not cooling the cabin as well as any of the 3 older GM 's we have (Dodge center vent 65 deg.and all 3 GM's 50 deg. ctr. vent )and they are all over 10 years old ! The service manager told me that Durango just didn't have a big enough AC unit to cool the cabin in the truck and we would just have to live with it !! No one said that when I bought it and traded in the Tahoe with ice cold air, at that time it would beat the socks off the Tahoe , acording to salesman !

Strength:

On a good note, the windows in the back don't have that child safety feature where they won't go down all the way because the have the window lock feature. It is very roomy in the back and the seats fold down very easily. It has a lot of nice compartments and cup holders. The interior fabric is nice. I really like that there really aren't any blind spots on the sides of the vehicle.

Weakness:

Keep in mind that we bought this Durango when it was a year old. When you roll one or both of the back windows down there is a vibrating that happens that hurts my ears. Not much air comes out of the drivers side farthest left vent with the air on. The shifting colum next to the stearing wheel sticks out to far to it interfears with the natural movement of your hand to the radio or air conditioner. When you only opt to get the 1 back seat there is a compartment where the 3rd row would be. It would be a really nice storage spot but it opens tword the seat back instead of the back of the car so it isn't very usfull.

I am pretty happy with the overall performance so far. There have been a couple thing that I have notice that could have been designed differently. On a scale of 1-10 I would probably give the Durango a 6.5.

Roominess, looks nice, smooth ride, handling, great leg room for driver (comfortable). No ash trays anymore in new cars - I love that!

Weakness:

In the shop more day's than I've owned it!

Purchased a brand new 2003 Dodge Durango with 20 miles on it May 10, 2003. The next day heading to the store, with 68 miles on the car, not even leaving our driveway yet, the car made a loud engine noise and no power upon acceleration! It was horrid! I called the dealer immediately, they told us to turn car off & on to reset the computer. This worked temporarily. Next day it happened again. Unfortunately, the car was broken down, and I had it towed into the dealership. To make a long story short, it's now been in the shop 3 times (it is currently in the shop as I'm writing this) for the same problem all 3 times and I haven't had the car 1 month yet, and I've started arbitration proceedings with Chrysler to get my money back. The dealer & service dept have been excellent to work with, and making a nightmare problem "a little easier". Plus getting a call from the owner, and in the hands of Quality Advice have made this easier on me. We've had the car 27 days as of today, and it's been in the shop 14 of those days. It's been hard to pin-point for the service dept, but finally it acted up on the 2nd breakdown to them. It engages in 4wheel LO when in 2wheel drive by itself. They updated the computer and replaced the modular converter. Now they're talking about a transmission - I don't think so, it's only got 1,300 miles on it now. I hope I get this settled with Chrysler fast, and purchase another vehicle. I'd definately do business with the dealership again though! I purchased this with hearing great things from friends, and my sister-in-law who owns one and no problems, and I get the "Durango Dudd".

AIR CONDITIONER

I love my durango. It was my dream car. The only problem is the air conditioner. It blows cold air however 2 out of the back 4 vents are completely inactive. I think the worst part about it is that the service people where I bought it tell me , "That's just how all Durangos are!" Wrong. I haven't had any problems with the vehicle other than the air conditioner, here in Texas you need a cold one.
