Strength:

Looks, power

Weakness:

Everything else, gas economy (has none), transmissions (they need to completely redesign this), and the air conditioning (winds down at 60 mph is cooler in the summer than the Durango's AC)

This is a horrible vehicle. I am not impressed at with it or Dodge for that matter. The service is non-exsistant, the Durango get horrible gas milage (10.5 gallons per mile) and I had to replace the transmission in the first one that I had (before it reached 12,000 miles). This vehicle is a money pit and I'm crazy for trying a second one.

Strength:

Sleek looking, awesome accelaration (touch the pedal and it's GONE), fantastic cargo space and seating room

Weakness:

gas milage is terrible, other than that NOTHING wrong

I LOVE my Durango! I've always been a Dodge person, and always will. I've heard people say horrible things about Durangos, but I sure don't see it. I wanted a Dodge van again, but my husband HAS to have a 4x4. He talked me into a durango, and I'm glad he did. The only thing we've had trouble with is the blower fan cage. It made a terribly loud noise and had to be replaced at 38000 miles (we bought it with 36000). It's the best looking SUV on the road, and to me, it's just like a van with all the room it has. I'll be buying another one when this one bites the dust, I guarantee it!

Strength:

Great hauler, lots of room. Lots of power even with passengers and pulling a trailer.Very comfortable short haul or long distance.

Weakness:

Lousy gas mileage. Bad ABS brakes (rear only) on the 2002, but very good on the 2003.

Fantastic vehicle. Traded in a 2002 Durango with almost 90,000 Kilometeres, which was completely trouble free.

Strength:

I do think the Durango has plenty of pwr and it has a very comfortable interior. I like the seating capacity and elec features.

Weakness:

Too problem prone, I mean a transission used only on hwy (No towing) should last longer than 87k. I think I will trade it in soon.

Several minor and several major problems w/ my Durango. I am currently waiting (10days) for a new transmission at 87k miles all hwy. I have changed clutch fan, soft plugs, battery, had a pin hole in brake cylinder 1hr after leaving dealer for another problem, it caused complete brake failure. My gas mileage sucks (13mpg hwy) and I think the ABS braking doesn't work properly. I hear tell of new problems w/ front whhel ball bearing wear so am a bit sceptical at the reliabilty of this vehicle.

Strength:

Smooth, powerful engine Flawless operation without repairs on 80,000 mile vehicle Great looking, spacious

Weakness:

Trucklike stiff ride

I have almost 80,000 miles on my Durango and it has performed flawlessly. The ONLY repair ever needed was to cut the front rotors once to remove some vibration when braking. The engine is incredibly powerful and smooth. It is the greatest looking SUV and has fabulous room. My only complaint would be that I would like the ride to be a bit softer, but vehicle is EXCELLENT.

Strength:

Smooth ride Good power for its weight Great styling - wheel/tire combination fits perfectly Comfortable seats Third row seating Dependable Great in snow/mud

Weakness:

A/C sometimes difficult to regulate, seems to either barely cool or else freeze you Multiple paint chips and wiper arms now rusting Should have separate opening glass on rear hatch to allow pass thru Cheap plastic "chrome" front grill - looks great until you pull on it to close the hood. Feels like it will snap off in your hands

Bought an SLT Plus new in January, 2002 and now have 90,000 kms on it. Maybe I got a good one because it's run flawlessly for the entire time, only requiring the regular oil changes and check-ups. Still have the original brakes and tires, both of which look good for another 50,000 kms. Based on my experience with it, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants or needs a smooth, comfortable TRUCK that can hold seven. And I still don't know if there's a better looking SUV on the market. Other reviews complain about mileage.... it's a TRUCK!!! If I'd wanted mileage, I'd have bought a Jetta Diesel. Overall, this is a great vehicle.

Gas milage ,cooling system ABS system poor dealer service .POMOCO Smithfield Va.

I bought a new 1998 in 1999,I liked the Durango ,the gas milage was poor but I expected that .The problems I had was with the ABS system .We took it in 14 times and the Dealer could never fix it .So I finally took it to a Independant shop and they said the computer had been programed wrong .It works fine now .The freeze plugs all rusted out and I had to have them replaced which was very expensive .The battery lasted two years and one month so the dealer would not replace it .I will never buy a car from the POMOCO group in Tidewater Va.I like the car but I will buy a Nissan or Toyota SUV next time they are much better .

I suggest no one buying a Dodge Durango. The transmission went out at 42K miles and how something else has gone wrong. This new problem has yet to be identified but I know it will be another major expense. The vehicle will not start and will not stay running after its been jumped. The durango looks nice but its nothing but a major problem to own. Unfortunately, I did not purchase the extended warranty. I will never buy another Chrysler/Dodge vehicle again.
