Strength:

Decent gas mileage, and fun in the summer. Easy to take off convertible top and cruise. Never had a major mechanical problem! Cheap little parts on the inside made of plastic are not fun to replace or fix.

Weakness:

Interior parts are easily breakable. Convertible top is easily ripped and not in too good of shape. Otherwise a dependable cool ride, always starts on negative degree days. Only real thing is that my frat brothers make fun of me because they say I drive a girly car.

But a 1994, don't buy any other years. They have the best overall rating and are worth the money. Be careful with the interior and plan on buying a new top at some point, they cost from $250-$800. I got a BESTOP for it for $250. Don't keep anything valuable in it, and most importantly, PIMP IT FOR THE LADIES, IT MAY GET YOU SOME ACTION.

Subaru Legacy 4x4 wagon(mom's car) and Toyota 2 wheel drive pickup. The 4 wheel drive is just as good as the Subaru, only a lot cheaper. The Toyota has had less problems, 190,000 miles. But I prefer my little Geo over dem both.

Strength:

This is a cute ride for one in their ending teenage years. At first very dependable and lots of summer fun .

Weakness:

Best advice for the Trackers WEAKNESSES, Any car that can practically be taken apart and put back together by the owner, the parts will not be very durable. Every since my firdt year past I have encountered more and more problems with my cute little SUV. THANK GOD FOR WARRANTYS, My second year in the vehicle my transmission decides to nip it in the bud. Truthfully I think a better name for the chevy tracker would be the CHEVY "LEMON". Get it , cute on the outside but sour on the inside. Also very very dangerous in windy weather. All you Tracker lovers take easy on those curves and freeways. Not to mention im on my forth battery in three years time.

To those who would even consider purchasing this SUV, I say if you want to buy a cute ride this is definitely the vehicle, if dependable, durable, and definition means anything in a vehilce this is definitely not the car.

Strength:

It is definitely a mileage getter. If you do a lot of driving with your job, it is a good thing. Perfect for your kids traveling back and forth to college, etc.

Weakness:

It is NOT a family vehicle. If you have more than one child do not buy this car. There is no room for the kid, groceries, etc. Lord help you if you need to go to the grocery store, wal-mart, etc. and both parents go along.

alot of wind noise (soft top) when we are driving down the road. kind of a bumpy ride if you are not use to SUVs

If you are just after something to drive around town and look cute it - it is a great car. College kid, first vehicle for one of your kids. Great! But if it is a car that a grown person is going to use in day to day activities, I would suggest buying a larger SUV - like a jimmy or a blazer. There is just more room.

Dihatsu Rocky - ride was smoother in the Rocky. Like the soft top easy on the Tracker. Rocky was definitely cheaper product to buy and couldn't tell the difference in performance, etc. to warrant the higher price of the Tracker.

This is a great SUV. My wife is always wanting to drive it. The V6 gives it plenty of power and the leather seats are a classy touch. It rides well and I have been getting abaout 23 mpg on long trips. No problem getting it into 4 wheel drive at speed.

Weakness:

Only one doorlock switch. Cruise control power button on the dash. No sunroof available (Grand Vitara has them). Would like built in Driving lights (again available on Gand Vitara). Other Chevys honk when you set the door locks remotely and the interior lights should come on when you remotely unlock the doors. All these things are very minor points.

This SUV is priced reasonable and now with the 2.5L V6 DOHC motor that cranks out 155 horses it has lots of get up and go! The fit and finish of the vehicle is great. At 5000 miles I am very please that we purchased it.
Suzuki did a great job designing the motor, the plugs and wires are hidden and there are few cables in view. The Tracker came with Goodyear tires and they seem fine, less road noise than our 1998 Chevrolet Malibu. Overall a great value and well built vehicle.

Strength:

Purchased Dec. l998. Received a lot of compliments on the vehicle's looks, etc. and questions about it. Small yet large enough. Used for gravel road and pavement driving-25 mpg in 2h or 4h, air cond. or defrost. Mileage dropped/studded tires to 22mpg. Haul 3 dogs in rear. Comfortable and dash access good for a 5' person. Have 2 children, plenty of room. Used for short commutes (30 mi.)as well as cross country (600 mi. virtually non-stop). Hit deer right front-most expensive part was headlight; not cause of noise listed below. Left front collision with mini-van; damage to fender, apron, headlight, grill and paint under $2000. Great handling.

Weakness:

Recall within lst week of ownership for steering coupler. Front end made terrible "crunching" noise on right side when crossing a speed bump or pot hole-dealer could not duplicate. At 9000 miles, engine would stall when cold-service eng. light came on. Dealer could not duplicate even when kept over night. The dealer did replace PCM at 23000 mi. Still occurs occasionally, and now have 60,000 miles on engine. At 21000 mi. the broken synchronizer between 3rd and 4th gear was replaced. Today, 2/2l/01 at 60,000 mi the rear right wheel bearing has went out. I did not purchase the extended warranty! If able to, purchase it when purchase car.
Wind noise from luggage rack.

I still enjoy driving the vehicle but my husband is very disappointed in the problems that we have had with it. When vehicle was l year old we were looking at trading it in, but because of the high mileage we would have to pay the dealer $ 2000 to take it. Decided we would keep it a while longer but now since it is having wheel bearing problems, which is supposedly unheard of, at 60,000 mi. we'll probably start looking again.

Strength:

Good gas mileage in early years. Lots of headroom & leg room for driver & passenger (I'm 6ft 9!) Good cargo space in back with seats folded up. Great in the snow with 4-wheel drive. Compact size makes parking & turns extremely easy.

Weakness:

Front brakes replaced too often (apparently they're too top heavy and put a lot of strain on front brakes). It catches the wind easily, which makes winter storm driving a bit nerv-racking. I have auto transmission, and it loses power when going up steep hills - manual would be better.

If you're looking for an inexpensive SUV or an 'around-town' vehicle, go for it. I have been very happy overall. Repairs have been minimal (except front brakes). It's not a good vehicle to take a group somewhere, but good for singles, couples, or as a second car.

Strength:

Very confortable ride, very agile for a vehicle of this size, gas mileage, I average so far 26mpg. Drove my tracker in some snow and ice, even in 2wd able to plow through with no trouble. This vehicle is very well equipped, cd, abs, ac, pw, pdl, ps, tilt, 5sp.l . I have the 2.0 liter, was able to do 75mph up vantage hill on I-90 West, a 10 mile patch of road up the Columbia river gorge and this was with 4 adults and all our baggage in the back.

Weakness:

Cargo space is small with back seats up. Seems to wander a bit with a strong wind. Front seats are rather narrow.

At first I had been sold on a Nissan Sentra...nice car don't get me wrong. But
after careful consideration of what exactly I would be using my next vehicle for, I
decided I needed something a bit more utilitarian. Alas, the Tracker seemed to
fit the bill. Due to my gas mileage needs, the 4 mpg difference between the I4
and V6 was more important than the power difference. I decided to try
CarsDirect.com to purchase the vehicle. I am glad to say that it worked great. I
have had my 2001 Tracker for 3 days now, have driven itapproximately 100
miles, and am so glad I made the decision to buy it instead of a passenger car.
The Tracker rides a bit more like a truck than a car but still very smooth. Power
is more than adequate with the 5-speed manual transmission. Seats are so
much more comfortable than in my Metro that it is like night and day difference.
My Tracker is well-equipped and I tested everything and all seems to work as it
should.

Noisy, roughish ride (even when tires at 23 psi as required by manufacturer), safety issues

Utilitarian, economical SUV. The other contenders in this class (Rav4, CR-V) can't be taken off-road. We bought this vehicle because of easy access and around town convenience, and its good reliability ratings.

Strength:

The mini-SUV is provides an attractive package- good gas mileage and handling for city driving, the space and the engine to go cross country, and the muscle for light offroading, all in an affordable price. Compared to its peers, the RAV 4, and CRV (does the Kia Sportage have *any* peers?), it is roughly 3k cheaper. It is the same as the Suzuki Vitara, but about 4k cheaper for the identical vehicle.

Weakness:

Tires (Uniroyal Tigerpaw) squeal at low speed turns- will change tires at earliest date. I didn't get the ABS and it has a tendency to slip and slide in the rain, but not on the snow.

Recommend highly- not flashy, but a good everyday car that does everything you need it to do, all at a great price. Apparently GM sells these at a loss to increase its fleet truck mileage to avoid big penalties; it also uses these to lure younger (and poorer) buyers into its Chevrolet line. IT worked!
