Strength:

Surprising fuel economy, comfortable ride for this type of vehicle, doesn''''t ride like a car; then again it isn''''t a car. We like the style of body, ease of use and readability of interior appointments. Visability is very good although I did remove the rear seat headrests for better visibility. Radio speakers are well placed. For what we haul, its the perfect size, we usually go out on a Saturday morning heading for our favorite antique shop, home depot, and the grocery store. All of this done in one trip........In summary, if you are a mature couple on a budget and don''''t want to go to the poor house this vehicle is for you..

Weakness:

As with any vehicle there are weaknesses. Engine-under powered-corrected in 2001. Radio-weak, and hard to hold channels. Air-conditioner-a bit weak Tires-needs wider tires (my opinion) Back seat-needs easier excess area-my two sons are over 6''''.

My wife and I purchased our tracker on march 24, 2000, from Valley Chevrolet in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Along with research from the internet and visits to several dealers we made our purchase. Main interest-Tracker, RAV 4, and the CRV. The CRV was to expensive, and the RAV 4 was terrible. To sum it up-rode like a stagecoach! Also the dealer wanted to sell us a 1998 RAV 4 for $18,000.00, more on this later. At Valley Chevrolet, we picked out the one that fit the budget and went inside to deal. We were on our way home with the new vehicle in 3 hours. We have had the vehicle for 18 months. By the way the purchase price was $15,400.00 for the 2000 Tracker compared to the $18,000.00 for the 1998 RAV 4.

Strength:

It always tickles me, when sitting at an idle, in a parking lot, people will walk up and lean on my car to talk, they always say "Is this car running?" And I say yes. It is so quiet and smooth. I love it.

Weakness:

None that I can tell.

I love my Tracker. I just traded my 4 door 2WD for a 2 door 4 WD. I didn`t think it was possible to love a car more. The reason my price was so high is because I also ordered a hard top for it. Most people don`t know they come with a hard top.

Strength:

Good gas mialage for an SUV, wonderful four-wheeling capability(never slips an inch in 4WD), very spacious interior, has very good steering and handles wonderfully for an SUV, has a very low roll-over rating compared to other SUVs of its class.

Weakness:

Low ground clearance of eight inches, day time running lights cannot be turned off and passenger side airbag cannot be turned off.

So far my Tracker has been a great vehicle. I looked at most SUVs on the market and the Tracker offered the best option package and quality for the right price.

Strength:

Looks-handeling-love the V6-great price for what you get!

Weakness:

Needs a standard transmission-heavy fuel comsumpion for a small suv-seats too hard for long trips-no arm rests-cruse control on switch on dash (what were they thinking?)-speakers for radio/cd poor when bass is even at 0-climate system controls are slides (again what were they thinking?), they need to be dial-type

This is a good looking mini-suv with many high end features. My 2001 ZR2 is red (I am a Red Raider fvrom Texas Tech). I think it is the best looking of all the mini-suvs and I notice eyes turning in town and on the Inter-State as I traveled to Texas this summer to visit friends.

Strength:

Drives great in snow, nice size for city living, not too bad on gas compared to some

Weakness:

Everything - have had it in twice to fix a loud squealing when the air conditioning/defrost is running, Front swaybar was loose and came unattached on the right side during normal driving - a third repair (the vehicle has *never* been offroad). Now, after a snowstorm, some snow got up in the engine and the defroster and heat stopped working, which will hopefully be repaired tomorrow. The 4-wheel drive goes on very "hard" when the vehicle is moving, making it effectively impossible to turn on except when the Tracker is completely stopped. The Tracker is loud, has little power going uphill, even with power transmission (this is an automatic Tracker with power on/off switch) on and overdrive off, and 4-wheel drive makes loud "bang" when engaged. I think I got a lemon.

Absolutely horrible - I'll never buy another Chevy. The number of problems I've had with this vehicle, plus the apparent inability of the Tracker to take some snow under the engine without the defrost shutting down has convinced me that next time, I'll buy Japanese!

Strength:

Peppy yet affordable SUV. I got 27 mpg on a road trip thru the Rockies, Nice high stanz on road. even with 4 cyclinder engine.....it has plenty of power.Good visibility, very comfortable seat with good back lumbar support. Nice back door latch and easy accessibility.

Weakness:

No center console, no arm rest, lousy storage options, glove box doesn
t hold more than a glove. Very bad noise at 72-76 mph, very dangerous at high speeds in windy conditions (probably unsafe over 50mph in wind). Radio is very entry-level.

Overall disappointed in this car, because of serious danger at speeds over 50mph in windy conditions. The lack of center console/storage/arm rest is very annoying on a vehicle costing more than my first three houses. Gas mileage is great....so if you want a SUV toddler without getting creepy gas mileage, this may be your car....but don't drive in high wind above 50 mph.

Strength:

The soft top is nice for the summer, it does pretty good in the snow (I have the 4 Wheel Drive version).

Weakness:

Everything! This is the worst car I have ever owned. First of all, Chevy charged WAY too much for this car, I put $2000 down on it, plus Chevy matched $2000, adding everything up, this 98 Tracker cost close to $16k, it is definitely not worth that much. Also, if you live in any state that has a temperature of over 80 degrees in the summer, do not get this car. I desperately want to get rid of it, but the trade in/ resale value of this car is so poor that I will LOSE money on it (and I've had it for 2 and a half years). The ride is terribly uncomfortable and the seats are hard. The service I've received from Chevy has been terrible as well.

I paid about $15k+ and there were NO EXTRAS except a CD Player. And sometimes this car is too bumpy to play CD's.

Strength:

Durability by far. No major or minor mechanical problems, even with 108k miles. Suprisingly roomy for a 2dr SUV. Off-road manuverability. RWD and the e-brake conveintely located right next to the seat makes for a good time on wet roads.

Weakness:

The 1.6L 8v 4cyl is incredibly gutless, pushin about 80horses. Match it up with a 3spd auto tranny, and your younger brothers Huffy gives it a run for it's money. Horrible sound system... 3 1/2's in the dash, 4's in the rear, although the cassette deck is quite ahead of its time. Wheelbase is far too short for the 4wd to be the least bit effective in poor driving conditions.

Haven't had much off-road expierence, but this seems to shine in that area, great ground clearance and stability... overall more for short commutes and fun on the weekends. Excellent for your teenage daughter since some would consider it 'cute.'

ive had this car in its high 80's and it handles ok on the highway. on country roads its handles great in the 60 mph range. the car is a great buy..the only thing is that its a very light car, and when rounding bends in the road..you know it....its not a blazer but for the money its worth the car..
