Nice interior Drives great

Weakness:

Unsteady in the wind

I have had this SUV for a little over a month and I love it! The only problem I had was the dealer installed the threading in the wrong holes in the license plate holder but it was easily corrected. The V6 engine is quick and the interior is great! I did a lot of reasearch before I decided on the Tracker and I couldn''t be happier! It''s a wonderful little SUV!

cost, gas mileage, roomy, flawless construction

Weakness:

small cup holders, but really none

A great little 4WD. I have the 2 door, 4WD convertible, and it is fun to drive. Of course it is a bit noisy, but it is a convertible. I see some people complain about the quality on this website, but even after being shipped to Hawaii, there was not a single minor defect. I have about 650 miles on it so far, and not a rattle or squeak-it runs perfectly so far, and I get 24 mpg in town, even with limited use of AC. Being in Hawaii, there is no need for a heater or defroster, but the base model I got came with an airconditioner that is not really needed in a convertible. The cd player is great, and it overall seems very well engineered. I often rent Jeep Wranglers for work here in Hawaii, and I am usually frustrated by the extreme lack of room in the back of a Jeep, usually not a small daypack would not even fit behind the rear seat in a Wrangler. However, the 2 door Tracker has room for a large daypack with the rear seat up. Plus, you can fold down the rear seat very easily, and you get a flat storage space that holds a ton of cargo. The design is much better thought out than the Jeep Wrangler. Plus, the Tracker has been really good off road so far, and the short wheel base (like the Jeep) high ground clearance (8.0 inches vs. 6.7 for a Ford Exploder) makes this a great off road vehicle. Since breakins are a problem in Hawaii, I may eventually get a hardtop with a roof rack, and you can get these special order from a company that makes them both for Jeeps and Trackers. The initial quality seems higher than that of my aging 1994 Chevy S-10 pickup, and I can''t think of a single problem yet.

Strength:

cheap! good safety ratings (for an SUV) runs REALLY smooth on nice pavement. Goes anywhere our larger SUV went. And then some. Don''t know if it''s the lighter weight or what, but it gets through snow better than our S10 Blazer did. Traditional shift-on-the-fly 4WD for those of us that *need* it to get us out to a *real* road. LOL

Weakness:

cheap. Couldn''t they have done something a *little* nicer for door and seat treatments? The first time my husband got in with his greasy chore-coat he permanently stained my door panel. you can tell it''s small...it shakes, shimmies and rattles on rough roads. Sure wish it had an airbag shut-off switch.

I searched for several months to find just the right used car for us. We needed good gas mileage (since it''s 50 miles just to find a grocery store), old-fashioned 4WD (living in the boonies and all), and enough seatbelts for two adult and two kids in carseats. The Tracker fit our bill. Especially at $6900!, after our trade was figured in. We got a standard transmission to get as much out of the 4cyl. engine as we could. To be honest, I don''t really notice much of a difference from our 4.3L auto Blazer...even climbing the hills out of the river valley. And spaciousness.... My husband is 6''3" and finds it quite a comfortable ride. And you really can get 5 people in it. You''d better be good friends, though. :) We had to take my aunt to the airport over Christmas, so I and my aunt sat in the front seat. My husband and our two kids (in their carseats) rode in the back. He was comfy the first couple of hours, after that though, he was just happy we were almost there. ;) But in a pinch, it will fit five adults. Or, *comfortably* fit two adult and three kids. And if you''re one of the rare souls that actually buys an SUV because you *need* 4WD...it works wonderfully. Sloppng around in the mud last fall, it got me out and home again with no problems. In the snow, it just cuts right through. A little "go-buggy" as a friend of ours puts it. So long as you *know* you''re buying a very small vehicle, with a very small engine...I don''t think you''ll be disappointed in the Tracker. I LOVE mine.

Strength:

Clean, quiet, tight, peppy and CUTE!! (ughh)

Weakness:

Why can''t they make a 3,000 lb Tracker that''s 50 percent bigger? [grin].

Well, After TONS of research, we decided on the Tracker ZR2 because it''s light enough to tow behind our motorhome and yet offers a V-6 (importnat for my wife [grin]). We''ve only put about 50 miles on it but I already am impressed. It''s tight, quiet, peppy enough, nice looking, and the color (Silver Metallic) goes with my MH (Again, important for my wife). You just can''t beat the price per pound for this rig. I know many RVers are moving to the Tracker 4X4. "But honey, We have to get a 4X4 to tow it -- whine...." [grin]. I particularly liked the ZR2 package -- almost NO decisions since the only thing to add is ABS and leather. The latter we didn''t want. I gotta say too, I''d do business again with Wilsonville Chev. It was the best car buying experience I''ve had in my 52 years. We''ve got a lot of experimenting to do and need to perform invasive surgery when the tow bar mounting brackets get installed. Film at eleven. Anywayz, we looked at CRV, RAV4, etc. I feel really confident we made the right decision.

I true off road SUV!! The rigid truck frame and great suspension work awsome while mudding out on the trails!! Guards underneath have no doubt saved some damage from loose rocks that I have driven over!! My dogs love it!! My snowboard will also love it when we go to Vermont and don''t get stuck in any snow on the way!!

Weakness:

Wish there was more power but a little experience and you can get it moving pretty good!

Man, just got my new Tracker about three weeks ago and it is very, very capable off road! I took it offroad as soon as it went over 1000kms and it runs great out on thr trails in the Ganaraska Forest. Had mud everywhere on it and went over many decent sized obstacles. My dogs love running beside it out in the forest and I can''t wait to go to Vermont with my board to visit Jay Peak!!

Strength:

Economical and good around town. Comfortable and easy to drive.

Weakness:

Underpowered, ignition problems (the key sticks) and most seriously, 4 wheel drive would not stay engaged in 4 Hi. Could be very dangerous. Loosing 4wd on several occasions ended up in the barrow pit. Lost 4wd on slick road, rolled and totaled vehicle.

Good price for a 4x4, excellent around town, comfortable and exonomical. Satisfied with fit and finish but concerned with problems with ignition and the 4 wheel drive system.

Strength:

everything but the brakes and front end

Weakness:

The brakes and front end, some workmanship and design flaws (doorhandle)

Our Tracker was purchased new in August 2000. It was put into service as a Security patrol unit at a busy upstate NY shopping mall. A lightbar, 40-watt mobile radio, grille lights and rear-facing flashing lights were added, as well as an array of switches, a siren/PA system, a police scanner and finally a flashlight charger. After making all of these additions, the Tracker is still going strong after a year. It is a basic stock truck w/ no type of "police package", however it sees extreme wear and tear. It''s been in to have the rear end rebuilt, for new brakes (twice), the ignition would not release the key, the door locks stick, the driver door inside handle fell out of the door panel, leaving the driver stuck. The driver seat has ripped in two places, and there is some really terrible noises coming from the front end that nobody knows how to fix. It''s been through two sets of rear tires. Other than that, it''s held up well. The engine and transmission are amazing. They see extreme wear, heat, and rough abuse and are fine. The heater/ AC work great. The radio is fantastic. The alternator has held up very well, considering how much is running off of it. The truck is often driven through bad weather (ice, sleet, heavy snow, extreme heat) and is taken off road alot in the mud and rocks (we have property to patrol that isn''t paved). We''ve put 32,000 miles on in 15 months. Overall, the Tracker has done quite well. Hope this gives you all a testimonial as to how solid a truck the Tracker really is. If it can withstand our 24/7 beatings, it will definitely hold up for you.
