Nice ride

Weakness:

transmission went at 80,000 Km (50,000 miles just 10,000 over the extended warranty. $2200 to fix, ouch. I should have bought the extended warranty! I am reaaly angry that GM will not fix it. I should have stayed with my Explorer

When we bought the vehicle we thought it was great. It handled well and was what we expected in terms of power, fuel consumption etc.

$$$$$$ to keep on the road. Buy a ford

This tahoe has not been my best buy. I have replaced the alternator, fuelpump, entire steering system (in the shop 4 times), Battery 3 times, Seat in the first 2000 miles, front drive axle leaks, rear seat catch broke, and the latest the trany blew out at 75,000 miles. It was driving down the interstate at 70 mph for about 50 minutes when the engine raced and it was gone. And no trailer and only 2 people. Buy a Ford!!

Strength:

Power - The Vortec V8 will pass anything but a gas station! Handling - My father swears it handles better than his 2000 Cadillac. Room - Plenty of room for the kids and camping gear.

Weakness:

Mentioned above.

We purchased a White 1997 Tahoe from a retired GM Dealership owner in 1999. He offered us an unbelievable bargain as we could not find one for less than 30K from a dealer! When we purchased the car, it had a leaky differential which was completely replaced free of charge from Chevrolet. At 40K, the heater intake on the motor cracked and required a minor repair. This problem also surfaced on my sisters Surburban. Shortly thereafter, the intake gasket had to be replaced. My local mechanic said this was a problem with this years cars engine. The last problem was the air conditioner motor. I have not lost my affection for this car. I am glad we bought it.

Jeep Cherokee. We looked at the Ford Expedition but felt it did not handle as good. The term "Like A Rock" refers to how this thing stays on the road. It is stable!

Strength:

Interior Space Engine Ground Clearance Breaking ability seems fine. Very luxurious LT model- all the comforts of home.

Weakness:

Seems to have a slight shuttering noise on starts and stops. Based upon previous reading and conversations with other Suburban owners, this is normal and rear end needs servicing with good lubricant.

I''ve owned many automobiles in my life and have worked on many more. Having grown up in a Ford & Dodge family, my fondness of Chevrolet''s made me the blacksheep of the family. To this day, we all drive our seperate makes. Anyhow - It is an SUV that rides like a lincoln. Although it still has the normal SUV traits, being raised off the ground and a little heavy, it handles bumps and rough terrain very well and comfortably. As with any Chevy, the interior needs some work and the captain seats are of medium comfort (This has never been Chevy''s strong suit). It was one of the best engines ever made (35o Vortec) - The Chevy 350 is infamous, the basic design has been the same for many years. This Tahoe has approximately 49K miles on it and the transmission still runs great. As with any Auto/Overdrive, I''ll need to keep the fluid/filter changed regularly, but it shifts without hessitation or sluggishness. As far as economy - -It''s a SUV - I got what I wanted and what I paid for. Seems in all 350''s I''ve had. . They get 18 on the highway and 14/15 in town. No better and much worse if you drive hard and don''t keep up with the normal maintenance. Can''t complain, this V8''s right in line. I bought it mainly becuase of the V8 and the size. I''ll pay for gas just as long as my family & passengers are safe. I would recommend this vehicle.

Strength:

Comfort, power, very solid vehicle

Weakness:

MPG

I recently purchased my Tahoe from the original owner who kept the vehicle in excellent condition. It is a fully loaded Z-71 model that looks and drives like I new vehicle. The only flaw is a small tear in the leather on the drivers seat, but other than that, the Tahoe is perfect. I read other reviews on this site before purchasing the vehicle and was concerned about the negative things that other owners complained about. Either they just dont take good care of thier Tahoes or they must have just gotten a lemon. I see no negatives thus far.

Engine has excellent power, tows superbly, interior is roomy and comfortable, good stance that gives excellent visibility

Weakness:

Repairs, repairs, REPAIRS!!!!! I could have already bought and paid for another truck with that money I''ve sunk into this vehicle. But now I''m just too damned broke! And if anyone else out there has had the same strange lurching and has successfuly had it identified and repaired, PLEASE let me know!

I have a serious love/hate relationship with this truck. I love the power available from the big Vortec V8, and it handles quite well for a vehicle of its size, and it easily tows anything my husband can throw at it. However it continues to break down and has developed this peculiar luch while driving that has my mechanic utterly stumped. I''ve put 103,000 miles on this vehicle and have already had to replace both the engine and transmission. (Which if I was smart I would have instead put that money down on a Ford F150!) Even with all of that I continue to have problems with it. So if you are considering purchasing a used Tahoe or Suburban, save yourself some grief and spend your money elsewhere. It''s not worth the trouble.e

Strength:

Power when needed. Brakes give good stopping power (so far) Plenty of room. Good road visibility. Suprisingly good handling for a full size truck. Turning radius is outstanding for a full size (great for getting into a tight driveway) Great off-roading experience. Leather seats with lumbar support is very good.

Weakness:

Sun-roof rattled quite a bit when offroading. 2nd row right side passenger headrest causes a blind-spot in your rear right window. Especially noticeable when backing out in a parking lot. But this is easily solved by folding it down when no one is siting back there.

I have wanted a Tahoe for a few years now and finally I''ve got one. It''s a fully loaded Indigo Blue LT. It''s an awesome vehicle. Handles well for a big vehicle, I sometimes have to remind myself I''m driving a full sized SUV and take it easy. I''m glad I waited for the new body style with the 4 wheel disc brakes (I heard a lot of bad things about rotors within the first 30K miles on pre 2000 models). This vehicle actually stops better than my 89 Pathfinder despite being much heavier. I love the V-8, and I''ll never go back to anything less than a 6. It gives me great passing power when I need it and good acceleration off the line for a big truck. Took it offroading near Yosemite and it performed like a champ. I also turned out to be the park bus when our group needed to go to dinner in Yosemite Valley. I fit 5 adults and two children very comfortably in the truck. Of course, the two children sat in the 3rd row which is better suited for them. Road visibility is great and I can see down the highway during my commute for any traffic problems. If you are in the market for a full-size SUV go to your local Chevy or GMC (Yukon) dealer to test drive one of these. Well worth the price and well worth the wait. 2 notes: 1. For those who bash SUVs; I had a 92 Toyota Paseo and in the 2 years that I owned that vehicle it was involved in 3 accidents, the last of which almost took the lives of my parents. Not to mention the numerous close calls that I was involved with in that car. I couldn''t be seen in that car which is what turned me on to trucks and SUV''s. After the last accident which totalled the Paseo,I bought the Pathfinder and got into 0 accidents in that vehicel. SUV''s are safe as long as you don''t drive like a maniac. 2. For all of those that complain about gas mileage on your Tahoe. It''s an 8-cylinder for crying out out! Why buy an 8 and complain about gas mileage? It''s kind of like buying a house near the airport and complaining about the noise...you knew what you were getting into when you bought it. Don''t complain. If you wanted better gas mileage you should have bought 6 cylinder SUV or even a RAV 4 or CRV.
