Tahoe 4WD
Strength:
Driver visibility, comfort, ease of getting in/out, ground clearance, good lines, paint finish, seat restraints, appearance quality of engine and drive train, location of oil checks and drain/fill plugs, accelleration, middle seat folding, rear seat removal, controls and efficiency of the rear a/c, and the radio staying on when engine is turned off.
Weakness:
Fuel economy low (12-14 city/ 16-17 hwy), cd player was faulty/replaced, bearing failure in front differential at 4,000 miles, snow traction fair with stock tires, spare removal, massive tailgate somewhat hard to open/close, full bench front seat not available with 3rd row seating, clock in radio flickers while panel lights are dimmed (normal according to dealer), 3rd row seating yields no room for luggage. I shopped and compared models for 3 years before buying. I am statisfied with my decision. The ride is very quiet and comfortable. Good marks for maneuverability and parking. Accelleration and control is good despite the vehicle's large weight and height. Cloth interior has been nice on those cold winter days. Stock sound system was ok but I added a 300 Watt amp and sub-woofer in rear for more bass. Similar Products Used: 1995 Chevrolet Astro Van, 1987 Chevrolet S10 Blazer, 1996 GMC Jimmy, |

Strength:
After changing tires to Michelins hugs the road in all conditions. Got 75000 miles out of one set of tires...and they had 1/4 tread left! The interior is comfortable. Ride height is great for big boys... I scale at nearly 300 lbs. You can see all around with the mirrors ...blind is directly behind... gets up and goes when the accelerator pushed... tows the loads without complaint. Gets good mileage with all the junk running ...
Weakness:
Factory tires, brakes are junk till you get the rotors, front hoses and calipers changed... I use semi metalics now. Trans has been sterling, but I change the fluid every 20K miles. Waterpumps seem to be a every 30K throw away... but what the heck... better at home than on the road. Dash fasteners ... holding unit to the body failed at 1 year... fixed them pups with BIG washers... 1995 Tahoe, 145,000 miles most of which are over the road long haul coast to coast border to border. This car is so superior to my Suburbans. A 1/2 ton version with LE options, Auto OD cloth interior, air with PW, PB and PS. This vehicle is solid on the road... no body roll, understeer. I am a horse rider and this is the nearest to being in the saddle it gets! I dearly love my Suburbans, have new one every three years, but this Tahoe has all of them beat hands down.. solid running and driving vehicle. Strength:
ALMOST everything! (See weaknesses)
Weakness:
My truck had 9 mi. on it when I purchased it...it was GREAT the first year. Then slowly little things started popping up. 1. the stereo needed to be completely replaced because the clock kept changing to 3:34. 2. the outside temperature "gage" on the rear-view mirror failed...needed to be adjusted. 3. shocks were sensitive & squeeking after about 28,000 mi. Took it to Anderson Chevrolet in Cupertino, Ca & the idiots STILL can't figure out what's wrong...took my truck in 4 times to fix this problem. 4. got a weird recall notice today about the rear headrests & how they will pinch your fingers if you adjust the headrest incorrectly...not a problem for your "average joe". Tahoe's are GREAT! Little problems w/them are annoying...but I wouldn't trade this SUV for any other! Similar Products Used: Ford ExploDer...borrowed of course...would never purchase a Ford! Rented a Montero...SCARY...I drove in a windy area & thought the darn thing was going to flip! |

GMC Suburban
Strength:
Very smooth riding, comfortable, versatile, great looking vehicle. Powerful, good running motor - got the competition beat there. Good off-road capability (4X4).
Weakness:
Same as above; in addition, too much body roll and aweful stereo volume feature - gets much too loud when speed increases - I always have to turn it down! (Hopefully it was discontinued after '98). Very pricey for such a problematic vehicle. Upon reading some of the reviews for Chevy/GMC Tahoes/Yukons, I was shocked to realize that many others have experienced the same problems I have had with my GMC Suburban. My car has 86K miles and just last month I paid $4,400 for a new transmission, brake drums, and fuel pump. Prior to this, I spent several hundred dollars getting the rear blinkers fixed and replacing several sets of brake pads, batteries. The steering/4 wheel drive doesn't seem to be operating normally now either - something else that will probably need to be fixed. The brakes seem to get squeeky on que at every 10,000 mile interval. In fact, I think the brakes on these vehicles are very dangerous. They simply are not enough for such beefy suv's (that's why they go through several sets of brake pads in a relatively short period of time) My brakes have always made a bizzare sound/reacted strangly especially when braking while car is being bounced by bumps in the road. Not only that, they are very unresponsive (I know all about anti-lock brakes - the problems have nothing to do with that.) If you are considering purchasing one of these vehicles, take the time to read as many reviews as possible; you'll notice a pattern of problems that will convince you to wisely purchase an extended warranty should you decide to buy; otherwise, it would be smart to sell when warranty is up. (A friend of mine has a '98 also and it's had transmission replaced besides numerous other mechanical problems.) Similar Products Used: 2000,2002 Ford F-350,250 - Diesel. |

Weakness:
transmission...big time...get the extended warranty if you buy one!!! Seems like others have had transmission problems on these tahoes...the Denali's are the same vehicle as the tahoe and the gmc yukon except they have more horsepower and a heavy duty towing transmission!!!...guess what ...GM knows they have a problem but they aren't offering the fix to the rest of us tahoe and yukon buyers...that sucks GM...what goes around comes around...just ask those ENRON execs that have been indicted... |

Well it is a Ford LOL.Windshield wipers are pulling a {maximum overdrive on me}going off all by its self, but it doesnt happen often, center console broke and fuel pump went. Thats all with 40,000 miles This is my first new truck and I think it is a good one. I believe it was enginered by Mazda and built by Ford so it is more reliable then 84 ranger I owned.
