Suburban 2500
Strength:
The truck pulls strong with the new smaller engine hoping the gas mileage will show the same performance while pulling. It has proved very convenient to have the captain''s chairs to move around in the compartment. The brake controller is very easy to hook up in the new Chevy vehicles with the wire harness provided.
Weakness:
It is hard to see out of the rear windows with the captain''s chairs in the vehicle and the headrests blocking your view. I bought this Suburban to pull a 30 ft. travel trailer and travel with my family and to be able to take grandparents. The truck is equipped with the 6.0 L engine with a 3:73 rear end. It is four wheel drive and has four captain''s chairs. Great for hauling two other adults and children very comfortably. |

4 X 4 1500 Diesel
Strength:
Good fuel mileage of 17 miles per gallon of diesel fuel. Excellent room and comfortable seats, Beautiful paint and trim . The 42 gallon fuel tank, with its 700 miles between refills. Its a Keeper! I will keep this vehicle until GM comes out with a new Suburban with a diesel engine in it.
Weakness:
Poor dealer parts supply. Poor OEM Firestone Tires. No Diesel engine available on current models. There is an Isuzu diesel in the Chevy trusks ! ! This vehicle was also bought new and is a great improvement over the 1982 model that practically rusted away. Both cars were always garaged and to date this seven year old model shows no rust while the ''82 model had the headliner hanging over my ears by this time. The OEM Firestone tires were pitiful on this car with lumps and vibration that caused me to junk them in 25,000 miles with legal tread on them. The replacement Goodyear Aqua treads had failed with tread separations by 35,000 miles of use, albeit I usually travel with light loads on paved highways. The engine has three trips to the dealer with injector pump solenoid failures. The lf. front disc brake rotor was ruined due to wearing the inner pad thru to the metal backing plate, while the same lf. outer brake pad with the wear warning alert alarm was not worn to the extent that the disc rotor was contacted. The inner pad should have the alarm on it rather than the outer pad. The inside trim has held up well and the seats are comfortable. The torsion bar suspension on the front driving axle is excellent and the shock absorbers are still fine but I''m thinking that they should be replaced as this Suburban has 60,000 miles and most shocks are suspect after 25.000 miles Similar Products Used: 1982 Suburban. 1993 Cadillac Brougham. |

Strength:
Big for families and storage, great for towing.
Weakness:
Besides the obvious 12 mpg., this truck EATS brakes every 10K to 15k miles without towing anything! In the 4 years I have owned this beast, I have had nothing but problems: 1.) Doors rubbing paint off the Vehicle body frame where they make contact 2.) Oil leaks after 15k miles, from the oil pan gasket...the oil filter adapter ring (replaced 3X), hosees to oil filter cooler replaced, heads, etc. 3.) Tranny Leaks (fixed 2X), pinion seals replaced (front and rear) 4.) Lower radiator hose replaced 5.) Intake Seal (Where coolant enters Engine)had to be replaced (over $350) because it was leaking coolant into engine oil. 6.) Mirrors on doors replaced but they shake so violently at 50mph you cannot even see if anyone is beside you. 7.) Although I contaced Chevy at 15K miles with these constant problems..after 36,000 miles (warranty end) they want nothing to do with me. Obviously this truck has design flaws in its systems, but Chevy would rather crap on their customers then help them! I just wanted them to shar ein teh costs of som eof these repairs that were recurring since the vehicle was under warranty and they REFUSED! Need I go on.... After 50,000 pampered, garage kept, never towed anything miles......Never, Never, Never will I buy a Chevrolet product after experiencing the Chevy shaft!!! GREAT FOR LONG TRIPS, FAMILY AND FOR WORK.
Weakness:
PAINT FATIGUE ON BODY WHERE ALL PASSENGER DOORS MEET FRAME ON BOTTOM EDGE'' CHEVY REPAINTED FRAMES AND THEN PROTECTED AREA WITH CLEAR PLASTIC TAPE. THIS WAS AT 24000 MILES. NOW AT 46000 MILES DOORS ARE CHIPPING ON VERTICAL EDGE ALONG WINDOW AND TOP EDGE OF DOOR. RUBBER GASKETS ARE DETERIORATING AND STICKING TO DOORS. CHEVY NOW CALLS IT WEAR AND TEAR. REAR DOORS ARE ALMOST NEVER USED AND THESE ARE SHOWING THE MOST SIGNS OF CHIPPING. i''VE NEVER kNOWN CAR TO SHOW WEAR BETWEEN DOORS AND FRAME. Strength:
It looks great around town, handles great like a car, I like the confidence that while I''m at work my family is driving in a BIG safe car. Plenty of power you press the gas and this sucker goes. Comfortable inside except the front passenger seat will not fold all the way down to 180 degrees, everything else is comfortable, we just had a tv and vcr installed in the car and the kids love it on long trips. The cargo area is huge you can fit everything and if everything is too big, the back seat row will fold down.
Weakness:
Audio system SUCKS! too much base in the back not enough in the front. GAS mileage sucks if you can afford this car and the gas prices buy it. The front passenger seat will not fold down all the way, I would like this feature specially in long trips. No three way memory setting, for 40+ Gran they should''ve included this. Love the car! I use to drive a Dodge Grand Crap-avan. First of all, let me say that no real man should drive a Mom-van. My wife hated the Grand Crap-avan, no power, the V8 5.3 liter engines makes SURE you''re on the freeway at least 65 mph, nice power, the handling is great drives like a car. When I test drove it that is one of the things I liked about it, I was able to do u-turn even in the tighest streets. My family ( two boys and wife) take long trips anywhere from 3 to 12 hours, this is the car for long trips, this past summer we got caught in a snow storm in Gallup, NM for one hour, had no problems the suburban handled well, it''s extremely comfortable, you can fit two families in this car, we have fitted up to 10 people. This summer we are driving it to San Francisco for a week, can''t wait to get behind the wheel. Around town my wife loves it ( this IS her car after all, I drive an Audi A4) gives her all the room she needs for groceries, and the other things she buys ( the woman practically lives in Wall-Mart) the kids can get in and out really easy ( a two and 5 year old). I have taken it in to the dealership twice once for a bad ozone senzor which kept giving an ozone alarm, and the second time it was for a noice when turning the wheel which they said it was a dry cross section bar bearing. that was about four months ago and I''m starting to hear it again. Nothing major so far. Similar Products Used: Isuzu Trooper, Dodge Grand Caravan. |

Quit, good HP, light streeing, good accel. responds from stop to go. You will peal out on 2 wheel drive mode, top speed 95 mph. (not me)hehe...
Weakness:
Always take $50.00 or more to gas station. Onstar useless...dont get it!!! MSRP $42,000 discount -$9,000 PAID $33,000 This is my first American car, I had owned a 94 Accord, 96 4-Runner, 98 Eclipse GS-T. This Surburban is really nice. I don''t have any complaints. You won''t have any regrets until you pull up at the gas pump. At hard conering there is body roll, but car will stay in control even though it''s 5,500 lbs. |

Suburban
Strength:
Excellent off-road vehicle. Its solid front and rear axles and 2-inch suspension lift let it crawl over large rocks, through streams, and along terrible roads. It goes further into the bush than any vehicle with independent front susspension. The four-speed manual transmission and two-speed transfer case make it a great rock crawler. The low range gearing is far lower than anything found on late model Suburbans. Carries all my kids plus all our camping gear deep into the Rockies. An ear-splitting blast from the air horns is perfect for waking up cell-phone yappers and left lane hogs.
Weakness:
Noisy on the highway. Not nimble on the highway or paved mountain roads. The 1989 Suburban, with its live-axle suspension, is a wonderful vehicle for hauling people and large loads along old mining roads. It''s a great family vehicle for 4-wheel exploring, and has taken us on many expeditions on terrible roads. The truck has a 4-speed manual transmission for REAl control on mountain roads. It also has a 2-speed transfer case that provides excellent low-range gearing not available in most modern SUVs. For taking 6 people camping at the end of a rocky road, there is no better vehicle. On the highway, this vehicle is noisy, and it handles like a truck, not a car. It requires two hands, two feet, and undivided attention to drive it, so it would be unsuitable as a mall crawler, or for someone who jabbers on a cell phone instead of driving. Similar Products Used: Jeep Cherokee -- excellent vehicle, but too small for 6 people and a complete camp. |

Strength:
Reliability. Purchased used with 90K and it now has 256K. Very reliable and no rattles or squeeks. Refuses to break. Good gas mileage.
Weakness:
Tires eventually wear out, not much power, not much hauling capacity. Overhead interior lite cover fell off in the last few years and the dashboard vinyl cracked a few years ago. Having been a construction company vehicle, it may not last 300K before needing a new transmission or engine. Rough ride. Good little truck with excellent 4-wheel drive. If you don''t have enough clearance just get up enough speed and let the skid plates handle the impact, but make sure your seat belt is fastened or you may dent the roof with your head. Similar Products Used: Ford, GM, and Dodge fleet pickups as work vehicles. Bigger but very cheap and unreliable. |

Size and interior room is a plus. Lots of power. Stereo is not to bad.
Weakness:
Poor gas mileage, but that was expected. AC never has worked well from day one. Front end allignment is bad and has been since day one. However we are continuously reminded it is within factory specs. Have had an exhaust leek on the engine twice. The biggest problem is the steering column, it groans, we have had it in three times. Seating is uncomfortable and awkward. Back doors sqeak all the time. Drivers window shutters when you roll it up and down. Some gauges do not work. Brakes wear out premature. We could go on and on. The GMC Suburban is the reason we will never own another GMC truck or SUV. I also think it is the reason there are lemon laws. Similar Products Used: none, we hope there is nothing similiar |
