Strength:
Lots of room, very nice ride for the size of vehicle. Love the vehicle that is why I bought another one. Itest drove an 01 Expedition and hated it. No wher near the room and comfort of the Burb.
Weakness:
I know of none. I repalced the transmission at 170,000 miles but it was my fault it burned up, I was towing over 8,000 pounds with it. With that kind of mileage and 33" tires it was just too much for it. Excellent vehicle. I bought it with 120,000 miles on it. I just traded it for a 2001 Suburban and got $7195 for it. Not bad trade in for a vehicle with 178,000 miles. I put a 3" body lift, 33" Bridgestone Duelers(awesome tires), nerf bars, grille guard, stainless fender trim, Rancho RS5000 shocks, and lots of other goodies. I still got about 15 miles to the gallon with it. |

Weakness:
Noisy fuel pump (it whines), some whistle through side view mirrors at highway speeds, split view through the rear barn doors. These are all minor and wouldn't prevent me from buying another. I can't consider gas mileage a weakness because I wasn't expecting any. Bought this truck used w/35,000 miles on the odometer and couldn't be happier w/it. It's comfortable, big enough to feel safe in, has a pretty good stereo, all the other useful bells and whistles, and let's me haul what I want. I put a K&N air filter on it and got a noticeable increase in gas mileage. So far ther have been no problems at all w/the truck (knock on wood). It's very relaxing to drive. It's so big I don't feel like being in a rush to get anywhere! I considered the Explorer (too small) and the Expedition (nice ride but not quite big enough) but decided on the Suburban because the GM truck I had was 13 years old, had 178,000 miles on it, and never caused me a day's worth of trouble. I hope to have a similar experience w/this one. |

Weakness:
Unreliable workmanship Too much plastic interior Poor customer service by Chevy Poor gas mileage (fill up cost on the av of $60.00) Hard to park in some areas (parallel parking virtually impossible in the city) I purchased the chevy sub 1500 in 1994. I do have to say that I have had the most problems with this truck. Within the first few months of owning the truck the transmission needed adjustment. The truck went thru brake pads like they were paper. The brakes felt mushy and I just found out that Chevy had a recall on mushy brake feel on suburbans. However, the free offer ends in one month. Within 38,000 miles the truck just started to have major problems. First the alternator died, then the A/C compressor died, then the catalytic converter failed (I only used premium fuel in this truck), then the windshield wipers failed to work in the rain. Then the heater core failed. I paid for most of the problems. However, Chevy refused to cover the windshield wipers, A/C compressor due the fact that I was 1 week past the warranty. Beware..... I will never buy Chevy products again. Similar Products Used: Chevy Blazer Jeep cherokee |

The rest. Folks...terrible experience. Don''t get one. Although very practical when dealing with family and towing....great on long trips, the reliability is as follows. 1. 2000 after purchase and careful break in, the rear end began to make noises like a banshee in heat. Long story short, after four differential gear sets and multiple adjustments, they replaced the entire rear end. All under warranty of course but you don''t get a comparable car as a loaner and I guarantee you the staff at the local dealer were short....I guess I would be too if all I saw during the day was disgruntled customers! 2. Brakes are another matter. Even using them very conservatively, you cannot expect more than 15,000 miles from them. Definately under designed. 3. Fuel pump....are you ready?? $700 and change to have it replaced including parts. Mine went out at 65,000 miles. The repair shop told me that the oem units go out well before 75,000. However the replacement pumps go for more than twice this before they fail. I feel taken by Chevy. 4. Numerous little nagging stuff. Door locks that don''t unlock or lock above 65 degrees. Burned out right rear light cluster which caries three bulbs. You heard me right...three bulbs. The piece, (are you sitting) was $175 plus labor!!! I have never heard of the bulb socket going bad....but the dealer service bunch said.."yeah, they sometimes go out on these". Not very comforting. Don''t american car manufacturers recognize why people go to foreign (read that Japanese) manufactured stuff?? I have owned four chevys and each was worst than the previous one...sad. I guess it''s true that man is the only animal that trips over the same rock more than once. I''ve tripped over the last one. Similar Products Used: Chevy Astro Van Chevy Blazer |

Strength:
Matter of taste-- Hubby likes power, I like fine-tuned and tight suspension. It''s definitely a truck. It''s very spacious, and plenty of cupholders. The oversized mirrors are a tremendous help! Rear air is a must and a joy.
Weakness:
Yeah, it''s a truck! The brakes are a little spongy, something Chevy is known for. But they work fine. Running boards are a great investment, especially with little ones or elderly passengers. Once we unexpectedly had 3 carseats, our little Mazda had to go. Since my hubby refused to own a minivan, we agreed upon a Suburban. Because of 3 little ones, even a minivan was a little of a risk b/c of dropped toys, kids needing my attention, etc. Not wanting to drive a truck, but desiring a happy hubby, I happened upon a Sub with 68000 miles on it. We''ve put an additional 60000 miles with minimal repairs on it. It''s wonderful for trips, hauling bikes, luggage even for 8 people, and no one screams about being cramped. We were warned about electrical problems with this model, which we have, but nothing serious. (The driver side pwr window only operates below 50 degrees now, and the dome light acts like it has a short in it.) The ABS light comes and goes, but has stayed off for several months now. (The light still works) But I have to say I miss my Mazda in tight situations. I would recommend this to anyone who needs space and likes a truck feel. Ours gets a little better gas mileage than the published 11-17mpg. We get about 15/20. The 42-gal. tank is great for this poor mileage, as we are not stopping every couple of days. One tank lasts about 520 miles. |

Weakness:
Stereo Hard to add-on Delco design Gas use - which is expected :) Parking in tight spots ... impossible $53,995-$11,000(rebatesand disconunts)=$42,995 To start of, I have never owned a 4-wheel-drive prior to the "tank". First let me tell you - Great on the snow! My wife drives a ''98 Transport Montana (4 kids), I wanted to get something bigger then my X-Audi100 - well, I do not think it is getting any bigger then Suburban. I go t EVERYTHING right away: heated leather seats, captains, 3rd row, flip-down TV, VCR and everything else it comes with except a sun-roof (could not put it due to a flip-down TV). Very roomy and captains seats are the way to go. With kids, we found out that leather was much easier to clean. Downfalls: I purchsed about $7,000 in additional electornics to put in it and Delco (brand of parts in GM) is a b..ch to modify. For a second battery - special isolator was needed! Stereo-just sucks, despite the fact of 9 speakers with a sub. You can''t add on to the stereo without ripping it out and putting your own - stereo has to be a weird size, therefore Very careful planning is needed if you plan to put your own. on-Star - came with a truck for free and free service for a year, otherwise I can''t imagine anyone paying for it. Compared to a ''98 Pontiac Mini-Van, it is much easier to take apart on the inside - which helps if you are about to run wires all over, amps, sub box, 2000 inverter. One of the design flaws - look at the power wire from the alternator (130amp -standard) to the battery/power distirbution block - 8 gauge!?! I can see problems occuring in electrical system after short while, unless certain modifications are made. Overall - great truck Similar Products Used: Pontiac TranSport Montana |

Weakness:
1. It''s big. 2. I have had several minor problems with it (passenger heated seats stopped working, minor vibration on my side mirror which gave you an annoying double vision) all fixed within days under warranty. 3. Too much hard plastic inside (why can''t they use softer vinyl like the imports) 4. 13 mpg (which was expected) 5. The stereo sucks! Overall, no major weaknesses so far (after 5000 miles of use) Bought used with 14,900 miles on it. Been using it for 5 months now and aside from some minor problems, which were fixed under warranty, so far, so good. It''s amazing how easy it is to park this monster inspite of its size. Ride is smooth, quiet and stable. It has a lot less wind noise than my Nissan Pathfinder SE. Lots of cargo room. Similar Products Used: We still have a 1997 Honda CRV and a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder in our garage. Both have 60,000++ miles on them, Both still run very good. |
