Strength:

Fuel mileage 19 for this diesel. Large enough to haul any trailer. I lile to keep my tools inside and also take my three labs for rides. I love my burban. My two kids learned to drive this beast. They hated it, too big!

Weakness:

Body Rust.

I have owned this 1886 since 1987 and the only problem I encounted was the rusted body panels, 1 waterpump, 2 transmission overhauls, 1 injectionpump. It has a 6.2 litre diesel and I have 190000 miles on it. If it wasn't for the rust it would go for another 200000 miles. I wish I could find another body to put the engine in it. The rear end ratio is 3.73 and I get 19 miles to a gallon of diesel. Diesel is cheaper than gasoline too. I will always have a diesel.

I'd buy another and it has to be diesel.

Strength:

The ride. Brakes.

Weakness:

That it was built in Mexico!

I have had nothing but problems with this truck since i have had it. I have had the car for 10 months and the following has beeb replaced:
1. New back window because the defroster cables broke
2. New gas cap becuase the check engine light came on and the computer picks up that the fuel syestem is not sealed proper.
3. I took the truck in 3 times for the vibration is the steering. They finally replaced the steering shaft after the third trip.
4. check valve had to be re-done. It was not installed correct from the factory.
5. The biggest problem is I had to have a whole new transmission put in after 13,000 miles. That took almost three weeks. GM could not find a torque converter for my truck.
6. Driver side mirrior had to be replaced. Glass came out on freeway.
7. The two motors in the rear windows had to replaced two times.
8. There is a popping noise that they still can not find in the passenger inside cab area.
9. The latest thing is the front headlights get heavy moisture in sid ethe lens.

This has waisted much of my time. I am sick of taking this truck into the dealer. I think this thing is a complete lemon. I think GM owes me a new truck! I have learned a lesson never to by a truck the frist year of a new body style. Never buy a car that has been assembled in Mexico! I want my $10,000 back I put down on it

Strength:

Lots of room. Very very comfortable ride unlike most truck-like SUV's like the Mountaineer I had for two years prior. Very plush leather seats. Nice rear control heat/AC. Very safe vehicle.

Weakness:

Gas mileage is horrible. Be prepared to pay big for gas. Brakes are horrible. This thing goes through brake pads like oil changes..every 3000 miles you will need brake pads. Count on it. Fairly expensive routine maintenance. My 30,000 service cost around $400. Yes, $400...for a Chevy! Fan blower squeaks on low. Had it fixed. Started squeaking again. Had a fuel leak. Had to get it towed so it wouldn't explode. Noisy noisy fuel pump! Always hear that whine. Check engine light came on twice after filling up at the station. Screw that cap on tight, it will leak fuel too.

Overall I would have to say that I have had a bad/good experience with the Suburban. I have two kids and expecting one and with the three rows, it is more than enough room for all of us. There is still a ton of room behind the third row seat in comparison to other vehicles with three rows.

Model Reviewed: Chevrolet Suburban - 1500 4WD

Strength:

I have been very happy with the smooth, comfortable ride the Suburban provides. As our main family and utility vehicle, the large versatile interior is wonderful whether we are hauling around extra kids and equipment after little league games or traveling on vacation. We have not had any problems with noise or rattles.

Weakness:

It's very expensive to maintain. I expected the poor fuel economy, so I have no complaints about that issue, however when you pay that much money for a vehicle, you don't expect the large repair bills and poor materials! At 30,000 miles the leather drivers seat had already WORN THROUGH (and I wear dress clothes 5 days/week), the 4WD control went bad (EXPENSIVE) causing it to shift in and out of 4WD every few minutes. We've replaced the brakes several times and seem to have squeeky brakes for a long time in between. At 70,000 miles the Intake manifold seal started to leak and had to be replaced (EXPENSIVE). Additional items that have broken are interior plastic latches, rear door latch, and the utility pole that backed into my bumper shorty after purchasing. Factory sound system is fair. I'm just waiting for something else to go wrong! The vehicle has always been garaged and immaculately maintained (with the exception of french fries going stale under the seats). I was very disappointed that a thermostatically controlled heating/cooling system was not available, and the leather interior has not held up.

Of all the vehicles we have owned through the years, the Suburban has been the most versatile. We can carry 9 passengers or 4' x 8' drywall with no problem and nothing gets wet when raining! Even with it's high cost to maintain, I can't imaging doing without one until the kids are fully grown. The solution to parking a Suburban is backing it into a parking space, however . . . watch those utility poles . . . you'll only do it once!

Strength:

Whats not to LOVE about this vehicle!!! Braking, Handling, Comfort, Beauty & Easy Parking! Not to mention...... LOTS OF ROOM FOR PRICE CLUB AND HOME DEPOT ON THE SAME DAY! This is one beautiful vehicle that does NOT handle like a big ol' clumsy truck! I was amazed at how this LARGE vehicle handled the curves at high speeds and zipping into parking spots is a breeze! I had heard that the braking had been completely redesigned and boy are they right! It is fantastic! I had my heart set on a Suburban in 1998, until I drove one. Not impressed. I ended up buying an expedition and loved it, only problem.....not enough cargo room when the 3rd row seats were in and who wants to lug those things in and out all the time! After getting a 2001 suburban as a rental vehicle on a vacation, I was BLOWN AWAY by the new model. Three cheers to Chevy! Nice job guys! I turned in my expedition and bought a 2001 suburban as soon as I got home! I have talked to lots of people who have owned older suburbans and now own the new suburban and they all say the new one is amazing! One thing that I really enjoy about the suburban after having owned an expedition are the cargo doors! They are so much easier to use that the lift gate, and by the way, what is up with that 3-peice rear door deal on the Excursion? Looks like a nightmare pain in the you know what to me!

Weakness:

The only weakness I have found is that in a perfect world, the 2nd row seating would have even MORE leg room. I have not had any problems at all with my suburban.

Is anybody out there talking about thier "NEW" 2001 suburban? All the reviews I have seen are on the older models and honey, there is a WORLD of difference in the two!

Go anywhere, haul anything, tows beyond belief. This truck once belonged to the US Government. It was used by US Geological Survey. It has the 350 with the 4 speed manual transmission and 4:10 gears with locker. Off road I hardly need the 4 wheel drive, but the extra ground clearance of the 4x4 helps. the govenment added a terrific roof rack, I think they used it for hauling a Zodiac boat but I have used it for moving heavy furniture. In one trip while moving a friend I hauled two couches(one inside one on top) four chairs and lots of boxes. It can't be beat. Also it is indestructable.

Weakness:

gas milage/parking lots

Great vehicle unless you want a city commute good gas milage vehicle. If you do buy a Tercel.

Wonderful in snow, great for family outings. Safety factor driving a truck vs. car. Comfortable, easy to drive. I would never buy another car again.

Weakness:

Transmission, dash rear door latch release, front radio speakers not the greatest. Issues with power window switch on front passenger side. Auto lock not consistently working.

I have always enjoyed my suburban and the comfortable accomadations, I would buy again, but probably just continue to fix my 93.

What can I say, power, luxury, room for everyone and then some, beats any FORD,DODGE and any thing with a foriegn title. Built in America if you check the vin nos. before purchase. My god why would anyone want to drive anything else. Low maintence, if you keep an eye on things , and don't run it till it falls off and say to yourself gee I think its broke. 122000 miles purrs like a kitten.

Weakness:

Haven't found one, buy a big vehicle plan on spending money on gas.

This is a great vehicle. If you have a large family, or sell Mary kay products. Shop around you can find a great deal, I did. took me three months but it was worth the wait.
