Strength:
Size, easy to drive, controls are conveniently located where you would expect.
Weakness:
Three suggestions for Chevrolet to consider: 1-Needs to illuminate the key ignition so that you can find it in the dark. 2-Third row bench seat needs to recline. 3-Gas mileage is terrible. C'mon, certainly you can do better! Parking this vehicle makes you consider where you park, due to its size. Luxury vehicle with all the bells and whistles. Perfect vehicle for a large family. Love the leather seats. We had dealer install a flip-down TV with VCR. This makes this THE VEHICLE for traveling! Strongly suggest the rear heating/air controls as well as the rear audio controls. This means that you forfeit the sunroof, but to us it is worth it. Two captain's seats in the second row make the vehicle more accessible to teenagers and adults in my opinion. Strength:
Fuel economy and comfort
Weakness:
The quality of the vehicle is pittiful. This vechicle has 66,000 miles on it and it is on its 3rd alternator, second set of brakes, the rear end has trashed itself out, the intake manifold has cracked, the tail shaft on the transmission has come apart, if it is above 80 degrees outside the door locks quit working, the front brake hoses have come apart internally, keeping the vehicle aligned is a constant problem, water leaks on the engine firewall flood the passenger side floorboard, poor quality leather for the seats and poor(cheap) interior fixtures. Overall I love the concept of the vehicle, the room, the fuel economy and the comfort. Similar Products Used: 1985 Suburban, Ford Pickups |

Strength:
A true beast of burden
Weakness:
The brakes are truly junk, Come on Chevy, you can do better. Interior pieces are really low rent and cheap looking. A car this expensive should make you feel the values there. If you need a large do-anything comfortable ride - this is it. Get on the open road and it soaks up the miles. Nothing lets you stretch out in comfort like the Sub'. It was the only vehicle that couls take 2 families and all their "junk" plus tow a boat to the river without even breaking into a sweat. |

Strength:
5.7 V8 tows with 2 families inside, kayaks on the roof, and a full load on the trailer with no decrease in performance.
Weakness:
Leather could be better quality. 3yr old vehicle w/33000 miles and leather on the drivers seat has cracked although treated monthly. Braking could be improved. The brakes are too spongy for most drivers. At the next brake change, cross drilled rotors, and high perf brake pads are in order. Great interior space with 4 adults/3 child seats plus luggage. We commute on weekends from Providence to NH, gas mileage is ~16mpg on the highway w/a full load of people, luggage, food. Although we are dissapointed with the quality of the leather seats, we would not purchase cloth due to our young children and potential spills. If you are looking for a vehicle to take on trips this is it. Gas mileage is what you would expect, but it works out the same as taking 2 cars to fit all the people/stuff that we bring to the lake house. Strength:
Lots of romm inside. Quiet and smooth ride. Comfortable seats. Held nine people comfortablely. Power to just about anything. Longlasting V-8 engine.Safety
Weakness:
Fuel economy. about 17 to 18 miles to a gallon. But thats the only bad thing I have to say. It was a big suv. could tow about 8000pounds. We towed trailers, Motor Homes, Travel trailers, Boats other SUVs(Bronco,Explorer). We still have It and it is 2003.It still run pretty good. It still has the power to beat most SUVs. space.
Weakness:
everything but space. Can't stress enough that they knew brakes were a problem but kept selling these cars. How can you sell a family car that doesn't have adequate brakes. And Chevy...I don't drive like a demon, no speeding tickets!, and it's hard to drive a suburban like that anyway. Love the large cargo area, ideal for long rides with kids. However, I am very disappointed with the brakes, every 3,000 to 4,000 miles I need new brakes, no warning and by then they say the rotor is gone as well. All my old cars had some warning that brakes were wearing. Have needed new alternator, 2 batteries, brake light assembly ($110!!), back doors won't close (locking assembly turns upside down) and they just turn and oil, constant repair I do by myself now. Sold us the car raised, with large tires but each time I have problem they blame the tires and lift kit saying not right for car and back down when I prove dealer installed. Alternator went out at 100K miles. Wipers were a constant problem until a recall came out and they fixed the unit at Chevy's expense. Brakes are a constant problem. Right front brake drags even after replacing the caliper and hose. Had to replace the rotor twice. Good truck with lots of room. Gas mileage as expected. |

Suburban 4X4 Z71
Strength:
Plenty of room to take 7 of your closest friends stump pulling. Love the On-Star system. My wife locked her keys in the car which typically means I have to leave work and let her in the car. Not this time. Called On-Star and the car was unlocked via satelite in minutes. Awesome! Comfortable ride and large captain seat in front. Rear-air, and stereo controls, a must for kids. Nice stock stero, CD player complete with sub woofer.
Weakness:
Yes, it drinks a lot of gas. To those of you complaining, this should not come as a shock if you read the window sticker MPG ratings! Get over it. The Z-71 does not come with thermostat controlled air. This should be standard on a 40K vehicle. The leather is kinda cheap. Does not have auto up and down controls for front windows. Again, should be standard on this type of car. Engine needs to be mated with a better transmission. Down shifting is not always smooth. MSRP- 42,000, Paid 34,800. I have really enjoyed this vehicle mostly due to the size and comfort on long trips. I owned 3 Toyota 4-Runners prior and really needed the room with a new baby. I have always liked Suburban and heard good reviews from friends and family who have owned. But, when I drove by the Chevy dealership and saw the Z-71 package on a Suburban, I had to have one for myself. What a great looking SUV. The Z71 package includes, in addition to all the 4X4 stuff, special 17" rims, nerf bars, body colored fender well flares, body colored front grille and bumpers, nicely integrated fog lamps and a unique roof rack, plus the Z-71 badging. It really distinguishes it from other Suburbans and gives it a more sporty/tuff look. My wife loves it. She says a lot of men check her out at red lights in the car. Maybe that should be listed in weakness. Similar Products Used: 94.95,97 Toyota 4-Runners, 01 Jetta VR6, 94 Honda Prelude, 93 Toyota Camery |

Strength:
Size is a plus for hauling cheerleaders and other assorted teens. Comfort is a definite plus and hubby LOVES the heated leather seats. Handles about like something that size would be expected to handle. Front and Rear air and heat are a must.
Weakness:
Transmission went out (of course)about 7,000 miles after my purchased extended warranty ran out. Shouldn't have gone so soon as it was never used to haul. 4WD also makes some terrible clunking racket when shifting in or out. Cracked radiator had to be replaced. Cumbersome to park and can lumber like a log wagon in bumpy parking lots. Back seat is also the heaviest thing since the beluga whale. Will hopefully never have another one. Bought the car for personal and some business use. Had about 13,000 miles on it and was owned by a dealer. Similar Products Used: Have owned and driven pickups but never experienced the HUGENESS of the Suburban. |
