Strength:

with a 2.8L V6 it still will go if you put your foot to the floor. the tahoe edition like mine has every power option and an upgraded stereo. the 4wd does still work but the electric motor labors engaging the front hubs. right now there isn't any way to tell the power of the motor because it only has 600mi on it. you need a k&N filter at least to make it breathe, an intake kit would help even better.

Weakness:

put in a new engine because old owners didn't know what an oil chance is. needs ball joints, tie rods, alignment, inner CV boots rip quickly. 4wd drive is slow to engage. overdrive tranny can't be used unless your doing over 60 otherwise the engine labors. high powerband. no burst of power when you floor it. weak engine.

the 2.8L engine should not have ever been put in this vehicle. GM should have gone right to the 4.3L six. way more power. the mechanic that did my engine change said that all blazers need ball joints at about 100,000k miles and the CV boots don't stand up. it does drive good on the highway but needs LT tires with a stiff sidewall otherwise cornering is tedious.

I DONT KNOW WHAT EVERYONE IS HOLLERIN ABOUT...THIS BLAZER HAS 210,445 MILES ON IT AND IT STILL RUNS GOOD....RIDES WELL

Weakness:

HAD TO REPLACE WHEEL CYLINDERS TWICE, TRUNK LATCH IS CRAP, AS WELL AS DOOR MECHANISMS, AND AREN'T THEY NOTORIOUS FOR RUST---RECYCLED METAL....OIL COOLERS NEED REPLACED, FILTER HOUSING LEAKED OIL AND HAD TO BE REPLACED.

I TRADED A TAURUS WAGON FOR THE TRUCK AND I AM QUITE PLEASED.....200.000MI OR NOT THIS THINGS RUNS WITH A 4.3L AND GUESS WHAT THE 4X4 IS STILL IN WORKING ORDER. THE LINKAGES COULD PROBALLY BE REPLACED BUT IT DOES THE JOB IN THE WINTER AND PULLING A BIG 25FT BOAT UP THOSE STEEP RAMPS

Bought this used blazer. in less than 6 months (now has 31200 miles), oil cooling lines have been replaced, aligned front end, bad alternator bearings replaced, power steering pump replaced, and NOW , the rear rotors have been replaced for flaking, rusting, cost of 615.00 !! never again!!

a very poor vehicle to date. have less than 36k miles, but my 3 years is up, so now i am on my own for future repairs. just paid 600.00 + for rear brake rotors. i am seriously considering trading this in on my first ford truck, have had it with the blazer, even though i like its looks.

Model Reviewed: Blazer LT 4WD

Strength:

Comfortable ride especially on highway. Took it to Florida last year and it behaved like a dream. Reasonable cargo capacity. Has been very reliable other than minor irritations. AutoTrac 4wd systems functions well in snow.

Weakness:

Poor build quality. Squeaks and rattles abound since new, in the doors and dash. Tranny binds up in 4wd in some instances while turning the vehicle. Battery failed during first 2 weeks. Noisy engine at times. Mostly just irritating little things related to build quality such as rubber weather strip on drivers window detaching itself, rattle in dash, driver door squeaks like its 20 years old regardless of times adjusted and lubricated, and with just over 30,000 miles on it, the rear transfer case is already leaking fluid.

My Blazer has been reliable other than the battery failure and generally provides good daily transportation and gives the extra cargo space when needed. However, the build quality issues cause you to overlook any good aspects of the vehicle. I can't even be bothered taking it to the dealer to try and fix these little ongoing build problems because I leave it all day and they still can rectify them. Fuel mileage isn't bad compared to other SUV's but the vehicle is underpowered in my opinion. The new Blazer V6 with 270 HP will hopefully resolve this issue. I certainly wouldn't buy another of this body style Blazer but would look at the new Blazer which hopefully has corrected these problems.

Looks, Smooth Ride

Weakness:

With Less than 12,000 miles on this vehicle it has been in for service more times then I can remember. Shortly after I purchased it check engine light started coming on here and there. A few weeks later car began to loose power and or stall. In for service - Dealer changed oil checked air filter said car was ok. A few days later car stalled again, In for service - Dealer replaced main computer said car was fine - A few days later Stalled again in heavy traffic - Towed to dealer - Replace mass air flow sensor. Five days later Stalled again - Called my lawyer to begin lemon law case - am currently drafting my last chance letter to the dealership and will report back on the outcome. The shame is I really like this truck and was very excited to finally have a new vehicle. Not only am I upset about the vehicle but the dealer and chevy both act like I should be OK about this as if it's normal and I think that's not only sad but it dosn't say a lot for american workmanship and business.

See above weakness rant, there is a definite fuel or air flow defect with this SUV. The worst thing about this problem is it gives no warning before it happens. I also forgot to mention the front windshield seal that was defective and had to be replace and the rear seal - defective - replaced.
I also see that I am not the only person to report this problem here so read her post as well.

looks good, easy to drive, enough room for family of four

Weakness:

all good until 10,000 miles. vehicle began to stall while I was driving, in the shop over 45 days, numerous parts replaced (ignition switch, starters, etc.) left stranded on many occasions, and requested repurchase from GM, they ignored requests (despite my safety fears)until i followed through with a lemon law claim. Unfortunately, I was in an accident before this case resolved. I am disappointed the GM did not respond to claim until threatened with legal pursuits and an accident occured due to their disconcern for their product. I DID WIN THE CASE AND VEHICLE WAS REPURCHASED. I FEAR FOR THE PERSON THEY SELL THIS VEHICLE TO-IT STILL EXHIBITS AN UNDIAGNOSED SAFETY DEFECT!

This vehicle was not safe. It took an accident and legal threats to get out of this hazardous product. This was my first dealing with GM but after the way I was treated and my family in danger due to their unwillingness to settle prior to hearing I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GM PRODUCT! They do not stand by their products or appreciate their customers.

I am so disappointed right now. I have had this car almost 2 months. I have argued and argued but have been told by both the dealer and by Chevroloet that it is perfectly normal for hot air to blow on the driver all the time. Hot blows onto the windshield and it also blows from underneat the dash around the emergency brake release. When its 70 degrees out I have to close the windows and turn on the a/c because I'm HOT! Also, I'm getting 13 mpg and am told that is normal. I have the 2 door, 2 wheel drive version. Wish I had read comments here before buying. The Chevrolet hot line for customers is B.S.!!

Weakness:

No help, and told its normal for the hot air to blow constantly on the driver.

I'm just disappointed - the dealer and Chevrolet expect me to drive this car with hot air blowing on me all the time - this is Texas!! They let me drive another new Blazer and it did not do this - but they didn't seem to care as they said my car was acting within the norm. Visibility is very bad. I knew the rear headrests and wheel would be in the way when I bot it - but I moved the tire and put the headrests down. But the side visibility behind the front seats is non-existent. I did not know the gas mileage literally sucks and I was not told about the constant hot air - I think its the makers responsibility to the consumer to tell them this car has a constant heater.

Model Reviewed: Chevrolet Blazer (2 door)

Strength:

Looks. A VERY sharp looking unit. 2 door sport utilities are easily the nicest looking non-cars on the roads. The 2.8L V6 has a bit more pep than my previous car (which was my first). Sunroof is awesome. When driven at a reasonable speed, problems are VERY limited.

Weakness:

Well, nothing but bad luck for me so far, but hopefully better things await. I'll start out by saying that 15 days after purchase with 192,000 km on it (about 125,000 miles) I blew the engine. 2.8L's SUCK! No two ways about it, they are one of the worst engines EVER built. They should have never been put into a vehicle that is supposed to have power, like a 4X4. What a planning disaster. Anyways, I replaced it with ANOTHER 2.8L based on the simple fact that the $$$ wasn't there for a 4.3L or a 350 (which I REALLY wanted). My truck is slow, the gears seem to change at really awkward times (that's why I wanted a 5 speed, but couldn't find any good ones). I'll be going 110 km/h on the highway and just to MAINTAIN speed, it will have to gear down for about 10 seconds and it makes me cringe remembering the blow out I had. The spare tire rack will rust out without fail if not watched VERY carefully, and every little bump you hit it bounces and wiggles the rack which results in really annoying squeaks. The 4x4 system is really annoying. I got stuck in snow and it took me five minutes to get it to go into 4x4. I put the tranny in N and pulled the shifter into 4x4 and it took 5 MINUTES JUST TO SWITCH AND GET ME OUT!

First off, I'd like to say to all those other guys that you should just be lucky you can AFFORD a 2000 Blazer. I would LOVE to have one and you're concerned that the GLOVE BOX LIGHT DOESN'T WORK? When YOUR engine blows, call me and I will have a shoulder for you to cry on. But you did spend all that money, and that should atleast work.

Now that's out of the way, I have put alot of work into my Blazer to make it just that much better. Tinted the windows, put in my own customized $2000 stereo system and purchased a number of performance enhancing parts such as exhaust, K&N filter... yada yada yada.....

It has been my dream since I was young to have a Bronco, but this is just as good.

I have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. It's hard to get rid of something that you just fixed, in hopes of not wasting your money. At what point is enough...enough! I bought this truck approx 2k under blue book in '99. Less than two years later, I will lose at least 4.5k on a trade in, if I'm lucky. I still owe 12.5K on a vehicle that GM will give me 9k for IF they match Blue Book. (Fat chance of that happening!!!)These Blazers have depreciated terribly. I can't afford to trade it in and I can't afford to keep it.

I will never buy another GM product ever!! If you want the feeling of insecurity, if you have a fat wallet, and you love frustration....this is your vehicle!!!!
