Model Reviewed: Chevrolet S10 Blazer 4WD

Strength:

Solid feel, not too top-heavy like a Rodeo. Comfortable and roomy.

Weakness:

High repair costs. Dealership service really stunk--Al Serra Chevrolet. When they fixed something, they broke something else, and then denied it. I almost got stranded because their technician put my serpentine belt on wrong.

In general, I liked my blazer. I didn''t expect it to last as long as a Toyota so my expectations were not unrealistic. It was mostly problem-free until about 70K miles, except for the brakes which I frequently had to replace at high $$. At 70K miles I replaced the 4WD vacuum line, belts, hoses. At 120K miles I had to start replacing it part by part. I replaced the fuel pump, water pump, transfer case . . . but never had transmission or engine problems. I then replaced it with a new Toyota since the Blazer repair costs were as much as buying a new vehicle. If you''re looking for an SUV that will last about 7 years at a fairly reasonable price, this is an OK deal.

Every inch of it. Even the sheetmetal is strong. This truck is all metal. No plastic here. Great lines and styling. Keep the tradition going, GM.

Weakness:

None that i have found, exept for the gas milage maybe. But who really buys a truck with gas mileage in mind anyway? If you want a real truck, get a fullsize BLAZER.

This has to be the greatest truck ever made. Period. It simply blowes every other truck away. My Blazer is green with a white top. The coolest part is the top comes all the way off - to the windshield! Its just a big bad ass convertable. The girls love it. I have a six point custom fabricated rollcage in it for safety. I currently ride on 33x12.50 Trail Busters. Tell me, how many other trucks can you name that will fit 33 inch tires without a lift, with room to spare?? Not many. Pretty sweet. There have also been a few modifications done to it, like the transmission and transfer case are out of a 2 1/2 ton truck. Its a 4 speed manual. In First gear 4Lo, the truck tachs about 6000 rpm at seven miles an hour. Can we say torque?? Bottom line: Whatever I piont this truck twards, it goes through, over or around it and then gets you back home in time for dinner.

Strength:

Good pick up. Smooth drive for an SUV.

Weakness:

Chevy specs do not guarantee your saftey.

My mechanic refused to inspect my car because he said the ball joints and idler arm needed repair. Sears refused to also do work. Chevy told me it was within specs and inspected it for me. Later, while driving, my front end collapsed causing me to have a near collision. Now, I just found out the Chevy 87 and 98 (I believe those are the years) have been recalled for that very reason. I tried to get a different car. No one will help me. I do not advise anyone to buy a 2000 Blazer until this problem has been corrected. (Keep in mind that the 2000 was not recalled. ) I was one mile from being on the highway when my tire caved in. Fortunately I was only going 35 mph and sustained minor injuries.

Strength:

Tinted windows so you can see the sun faded interior

Weakness:

everything else you can imagine

What an absolute piece of junk. I wanted to put my wife and kid into a decent vehicle quick so I assumed a lease from my soon to be estranged brother. So far,in 3 months, the battery has completely fried, the power steering pump has gone, and most recently I attemped to get an inspection sticker and yes! you quessed it, it failed due to ball joints. At this point I wonder if will be cheaper just to give the lease company their payments up front and give this poor excuse for an SUV to them early. I can always drive my 130,000 mile Explorer with no worries!

Strength:

Rugged good looks, high ground clearence, neat interior, good tread, stable ride.

Weakness:

GAS GUZZLER, rattles, huge blind spots.

This is my first SUV, my secont chevy. Maybe ZR2 are built differantly but this is one solid vehical. I dislike the rattles but the warenty covers it. Like a rock. I am comeing off a Cavalier Z24 and I find that the Blazer could use more high end power but I love the low end grunt it has. This is the best off road package that I could find in a SUV. Handles better than any other Blazer I have driven. The only thing that came close is the jeep Cherokee.

Strength:

styling, performance, options, handling, it''s a personal SUV and not oversized like an Explorer.

Weakness:

Uniroyal tires are junk! Buy some decent ones.

I don''t understand all of the bad reviews of the Blazer either. I had a 93 Chrysler LeBaron that was the best car, never had a days trouble with it, until my sister-in-law got a hold of it and according to her, it was a piece of junk. She knows one speed, wide open. I guess it is all in who the driver is. Trucks/SUVs are not the replacement for the family station wagon. I don''t care which car company continues to tell you that. It will not drive like a car, it will not handle like a car, it will not be as quiet as a car, it will not ride like a Cadillac. It''s a truck. Don''t buy one if you really are looking for a car. All the car companies have mini-vans that do have the characteristics of cars. I love the looks and the ride of the truck. I am a little disappointed with some of the quality that was put into the interior though. So far, I have had to take the truck in for a couple of moldings that were bad from the factory. My worst complaint here is that the guy at the Service Dept at my dealership has NO CLUE about the truck or the parts that make up the truck. I have a slight problem with the plastic side panels in the back and as far as the tires go, they stink. I have had them balanced at least once (I have 4,000 miles on the truck) and they just do not keep a balance. Uniroyal tires are garbage!! I would suggest buying a good set of BF Goodrich TA''s or Michelin''s to improve the ride of the truck. I have been a long time Chevy buyer. I owned a Nissan Maxima SE and while I have to admit, that car was cool, I LOVE MY TRUCK!!! If you want a car-like ride, buy a car. Do not disappoint yourself. If you want a fun vehicle and something that is not like driving a school bus (like an Expedition or Excursion), the Blazer is the truck to buy. It''s truly a personal SUV, before they were SUVs.

transmission, fuel gage, doors leak water, rear wiper works when it feels like it, seats are falling apart, I could go on...

This is the worst investment I have ever had. The Blaxer rides terrible and everything started falling apart after 6 months. I had to replace the transmission after 40,000 miles. I would not give this even a half star.

Strength:

It''s got power. The 4WD and locking differential can pull you though anything. I love heated leather seats. Not too bid, not too small...fit''s in the garage.

Weakness:

Very poor gas mileage even for an SUV. Turn radius is terrible. Interior noise level is high (rattles and wind).

Overall, It sounds like I''ve been lucky to say the least. The only problems that I''ve experienced are the right front speacker went out, and the passenger door is a little tight to open. I''ve had some vibration troubles at speeds above 65mph, and there is a buzzing noise just above my head when I start the vehicle. Haven''t figure that one out though. I do most of my own maintenance. Oil, grease, rotate tires, fluids, brakes, etc. I like driving it though. I''ve owned a Mitsubishi 3000GT, Honda Accord, and now a Chrysler T&C. All were/are better vehicles for the $$$. I''ve got two brother-in-laws working for GM, so I felt obligated to buy one. Besides I got the relatives discount (option 2). Jury is still out on whether or not that was a good decision. For now I''m enjoying it though.
