Strength:

345 HORSES FOR ONE, 8500 TOWING CAPACITY, ALL READY TO GO CLASS 4 TRAILERING, 250 WATT BOSE SOUND SYSTEM, 8-PASSENGER SEATING, HIGH-QUALITY LEATHER UPHOLSTERY...I COULD EASILY GO ON.

Weakness:

NOT A CHEAP CAR (BUT COMPETES WELL WITH THE $70,000 LEAGUE), PAINT APPEARS TO BE THICK, BUT CHIPS AND SCRATCHES VERY EASILY.

WE SPENT 6 MONTHS TEST DRIVING EVERY SUV OUT THERE (FROM THE LAND ROVER DISCOVERY TO THE ACURA MDX TO THE LINCOLN NAVIGATOR TO THE TOYOTA LANDCRUISER & SEQUOIA). THE ESCALADE LEFT THE COMPETITION IN THE DUST. IT HANDLES EXTREMELY WELL WITH PLENTY OF LOW END TORQUE. ON ROAD, IT DRIVES LIKE A TRUE LUXURY CAR WITH ALL THE AMMENITIES ONE COULD POSSIBLY WANT (ONSTAR, PERSONAL CALLING, BOSE SOUND SYSTEM, 8 PASSENGER SEATING, HEATED SEATS, ETC). IT HAS TWICE AS MUCH HORSE POWER THAN THE DISCOVERY. WE GET SO MANY LOOKS AND STARES WHEN WE GO OUT-AT TIMES IT''S TOO MUCH! BEFORE WE PURCHASED OUR ESCALADE, WE FOUND OURSELVES STARING AT THE ESCALADE EVERY TIME WE SPOTTED ONE. IT IS A DEFINITE STAND OUT ON THE ROAD.

Strength:

Powerful engine, lots of standard features, drives like a smaller vehicle, fair price/value.

Weakness:

Very big problem with blind spot due to front seat headrests, impossible to see exact back or front of vehicle due to high hood height. Too little wood, air controls should have been digital rather than cheap-looking knobs. Generic dashboard same as many other GM trucks.

Great-looking vehicle that turns heads every day even here in Los Angeles. Lots of amenities all included for one price makes things easy, 2WD model has plenty of power for those of you trying to decide between the 2WD and AWD versions. Some complaints as noted below.

A bit hard to get into due to height

By far the best SUV on the market. The power and styling are great. A real head turner. Virtually every option you could want comes standard. Fit and finish is real nice

The power, the style, the overall GREATNESS of looking at it in the driveway. All the ladies love it and so do the pals.

My god, This is the king of all SUV''s. I drive it down main street and everyone turns to look at me. When kids are on the corner i might give them a show and put my food down a little and they all cheer and give thumbs up!!! Coming from a great line of SUV''s..I.E. suburban, tahoe, yukon, and yukon XL, its no wonder why its the best and #1 on the road.

Model Reviewed: Cadillac Escalade

Strength:

The interior leather and aroma are very nice. The audio system is superb. The attention the Escalade generates from onlookers. The on-star system is a life saver.

Weakness:

We have been somewhat disappointed in the number of times this vehicle has had to have maintenance. Twice for oil leaks, once for a new master cylinder, one week in shop for CD player, and numerous other trips to the dealer for warranty work. This vehicle is very hard to stop and very poor on gas mileage. Instrument panel guages are old fashioned, they don't resemble a luxury vehicle. No climate control of A/C.

Over $60,000 after tax title licence and extended warranty. I would reccomend this vehicle unless significant improvements are made that make it more compatible with the Cadillac name. By this I mean it should be more luxurious in both ride, comfort and looks.

Similar Products Used:

Only vehicle slighty similar to compare to is 99 GMC Sierra P/U which has a much better breaking system. These 2 vehicles were purchased at the same time and the P/U has required no dealer repairs unlike the numerous times the Escalade has been in the shop.

Strength:

there are none..except for the black paint..

Weakness:

The steering is terribly light, fuel economy is horrid, brakes are only capable of stopping a rolling toaster. Lacks in overall engine power (i.e. torque-and mid range power). poor off road capability, it makes a honda civic look good in the back yards of the Baja. Poor towing capacity, my kia sephia tows more...Massive body roll on turns, its impossible for my lady friends to put makeup on. there are no additional factory options...i dont like that..Its really not that hott of a car if i must say.

terrible.horrid.dangerous.unhealthy.unlawful.unsafe.nerveracking.difficult.impossible.unexpecting. these all apply to the characteristics of handling, engine quality and performance, overall material quality, workmanship, design and economy. i bet i can put a hemi 502 on a radio flyer, and still have better handling.

Weakness:

ITS A CADILLAC!!!
Why i was talked into buying a Cadillac God only knows. Cadillac are not REAL luxury vehicles - maybe in the USA they are. But around the rest of the free world they are seen as a joke. A Merc is lux, a BMW is lux, a Jag is lux, a Lexus is lux, a Bentley is lux, an Aston Martin is lux, a Cadillac is crap.
My wife talked me into getting an Escalade. We are both outdoors people (we snowboard and MTB) and wanted something big and capable that could go anywhere, but she also wanted something luxurious. So we ended up trying an Escalade. It drives like a slug. The interior isn't bad but feels like part of the Titanic. Some of the switches are in awkward spots. There is less space in the back than we actually thought and i've seen skateboards that handle better off-road. This is my biggest gripe. At heart its an SUV (albeit a luxury version)and should be able to perform like a proper SUV. This thing got stuck in 2 foot snow in Vermont. We had to dig it out with a spade. This is not an SUV. Its a big piece of junk that is best kept in the Burbs, or better still in Lake Michigan. Even my wife disliked it after a while. Subsequently, we took sold it for a small loss and got a LR Discovery!!!!! NOTE: DISCOVERY'S ARE THE ORIGINAL AND STILL THE BEST SUV MONEY CAN BUY. You can get them fully loaded for the same price as the Crapillac and it won't get stuck in 2 foot of snow!?

Escalade's are poor excuses for SUVs. Good if you're old and want to 'appear' wealthy and wise but crap for everything else. Especially off-road.
If you want a proper SUV - do yourself a favor and buy a Discovery. You will not be disapointed. There luxurious, have real prestige, and you can take them virtually anywhere. THE BEST SUV IN THE WORLD - BAR NONE.

Similar Products Used:

LR Discovery SE - the best SUV available (i don't see any other type of SUV in the Africa Cross-Continent challenge). Merc ML320 - good small SUV for around the city and decent in the snow/mud. Explorer XLS - still a damn good SUV - much better than the Escalade. Isuzu Trooper - crap.

Strength:

This car is a dream come true. I love the exterior, the plush leather seating, the numerous standard options, reliability, and the fact that it turns so many heads. It is great during Chicago's huge snow storms, as I am the person who passes the cars that slid into a ditch. She's my black beauty!

Weakness:

Instead of the tacky rear temperature control mounted on the overhead console, there should be an on-board computer with more info. than just the outside temperature. For this price the vehicle should come standard with not only on-star, but a Navigation System as well. It is too similar to it's less expensive twins. (Tahoe, and Yukon)

This car is a great head-turner, snow demon, and it is also great for driving to country clubs. It is the most beautiful sport utility that I will ever own. I am anxiously awaiting the 2002 Model hoping that it will come with a Navigation System, and a more sophisticated on-board computer. Buy this vehicle, you won't regret it!

It is bigger and less expensive than the Lexus LX470, as well as other luxury SUV's
