See above. Masculine, stylish, sexy throaty exhaust, great base sterio, auto everything. Fast plus reasonable mileage. 2003 model $5,000 off and nobody is the wiser. Please do your research, but do take it with a grain of salt also. I nearly missed out on the best driving experience of my life due to reading these things.
Weakness:
My friends are all mad at me for upping the ante. My co-workers think I drive a $60k car. Break dust is very bad, so get easy rims to wipe off. Doors are heavy and back seats are not todler frienly. This is more of an indulgence than a family SUV, but if you want to feel like a success among your business associates and peers, this car has winner written all over it. For the same price as a volvo tank, a couple bucks more than a lexus ovum, or a borarific hondamatic, GO FOR IT! I really wanted a sporty, refined, upscale yet compact SUV, and read every review posted on the X-5 over the last year. I have to say, that I almost did not buy it because of the poor reviews noted here, and on consumer reports. But, based on my personal discussions with actual owners of BMW's (which were phenominal) I jumped in anyway. Wow, am I happy! I took the car expecting it to have crooked bumpers, bucking bronco seats, no radio reception, dead batteries, stalling, vibrating, and doors locking such that I would have to crawl out the back. What I did get was an absolutely perfect running, astoundingly sophisticated, driving machine. Everythings works, and works better than any car I have ever had. It is fast, agile, comfortable, luxurious, smart, and way better than the other cars I drove like volvo, Toureg, pilot, MDX and RX330. Plus a 6 footer fits in it. Similar Products Used: Honda Pilot |

good accelaration, well built, nice interior, make you feel younger
Weakness:
bumpy ride on concrete roads, poor lumbard support, radio not so good, keeps you a feeling of triping or nervousness when driving the car, doors to heavy to open and close mind you this is a good car but if gave me back pains because i did not get the comfort seats. its as bit bumpy at concrete roads and soft at asphalt. its exciting to drive and doubts yourself if its really worth keeping it especially reading a lot of problems from buyers. Awsome A/c, good reliability, good gas mileage, sporty handling, quick and good hp, excellent stopping power.
Weakness:
Funky throttle, if you press the gas too much, the BMW flings forward fast, vibrations, bumpy ride with sport package, hard back seat, not a lot of luggage room, and after a wash/rain the brake rotors turn orange (surface rust) Had for almost 2 years, and had one problem, but didnt have to take it in at all. The check system told us there was something wrong with the tranny. shut off the engine, let it sit for 30 seconds, started it up and worked fine. Roomy interior, not much luggage room, good on gas. Just with ac on, idles really low, so it vibrates, only on idle, but hey, AC is cold enough to freeze your boogers! Similar Products Used: Jeep cherokee |

BMX X5 3.0d (Diesel)
Strength:
Great handling for the type of car - excellent chassis - sporty ride Excellent powertrain, also (engine and 5-speet automatic transmission) Interior, seating comfort, and visibility are first class Low fuel consumption with huge tank capacity - spend less times at gas stations... For the type of car excellent performance (I get top speed about 125 mph easily). Solid build quality - no problems so far (I used it for about 12500 miles within 3 months).
Weakness:
Navigation system (European version) not very precise, clumsy to operate, and too expensive Audio system - at the price - should be better Sporty suspension gets bumpy on some poor roads - some co-drivers dont like it While the base price maybe ok may options are way too expensive here Great car! Mine has the 3 Liter Diesel engine which has higher torque aka better acceleration and much less fuel consumption (I get about 23 miles/gallon in mixed city-highway driving mode at German speeds). This is my business car - I like the room, seating comfort and relaxed driving with elevated position while commuting between meetings. Similar Products Used: This is my first SUV! until 1995 I drove various Volkswagens (Passat, Golf) which I always liked 1995-1997 Chrysler Stratus (great value) 1996-2002 Chrysler Voyager (very nice if it works) 1997-20 |

Did not see any yet. I just don't get it. I guess some people will always find something to complain about. The BMW X 5 is the best SUV available, period. If you complain about quality, when they make 100,000 of them, of course there will be a few with some kind of problems. If you need a huge cargo capacity or towing capability, get a freaking Suburban. If you need an off road monster, get a Range Rover or a Jeep.If you need a perfect all weather urban daily driver, an X 5 is it! It is comfortable, has the best handling, luxurious, prestigious and is not overpriced. Similar Products Used: BMW 528 sedan, Mitsu Montero |

Looks and looks only! Also handles well when it works.
Weakness:
Quality and service provided with the car. If a problem occurs, dump it quick! Drive is stiff, interior is not luxurious and for the amount of money paid, I'd rather have 2 Hondas! BIGGEST RIP OFF EVER! This car has yet to give me 4 months of problem free driving. The electrical system breaks down constantly (from the a/c to the windows, door locks, etc.). I have taken it to the dealer each time it has had a problem and nobody can fix a problem long term. The same problem occurs within a month after getting it back. I would think it was the dealer, but I have had the same experience with 3 different dealers when a problem occurs. For the money you pay, it is not worth it! BMW will consistantly put these problems off until the warranty expires and I have to start paying myself. First BMW experience and definitely the last! Beautiful, great ride and handling when it worked
Weakness:
Utterly unreliable. Had virtually every major component fail at one time or another. Built in America may be part of the problem. Most Unreliable vehicle I have ever owned. Over 2 1/2 yrs on this 2001 model, towed in for repairs 10 times. Have Owned BMWs for 25 yrs., never again after this experience. Similar Products Used: Landcruiser, Range Rover |

Quality, price, functionality, quality, roomines, quality, price, reliabilty, quality, price. After driving this nonsense for 5 months I have converted back to Mercedes Benz ML500, remember folks, BMW is always a mercedes want to be, or you will never be able to catch your fathers age. This vehicle is designed for one purpose, to grab certain market share, it is not made to carry 4 people for long even though it has 5 doors, it has a cumbursome cargo area, the build quality is low and Americanized, since it is built in Alabama. The styling is fair but it should be 5% of your decision when purchasing a near $50K car. There are many more vehicles out in the market which will make more sense than this one for the money. Excellent ride(with AC off) , corner like a car, the sport of SUV or SAV?
Weakness:
VIBRATION, BM will not do anything about it dusty brake, your rims will be carbon color most of the time to much money for vibration The BMW X5 3.0 is a great car if a person don't mind get stuck in traffic with the Air conditioning on in hot Miami sun. THE STEERING vibrate like no other euro-jap-american I have ever driven and BMW answer is "is build that way" 44K for a car that vibrate with luxuries amenities like AC? It is a safe car is you don't mind vibration it is a good looking car if you don't mind vibration simply don't turn on the AC for an excellent ride? ? ? your friend will enyoy ridind on it but don't let them drive it they will say "the steering vibrate" you will answer "it that way" they will replied, so much money for a car that vibrate more that mine? Looks (exterior & interior); acceleration; handling; BMW name - resales value
Weakness:
Price; interior & storage room. Awesome SAV, not just an SUV. Handling is great. Tried Acura MDX, Lexus RX300, Mercedes ML320 & ML430, all the rest - nothing compares. Great look, sporty, great acceleration for a 225HP V6 3L. On the freeway, 85-90 mph feels like 70-75 mph in my 02 Honda Odyssey 240HP V6 3.5L. Unbelievable that it's made in Alabama, US - not Germany. My dream car would be the X5 4.6i 340HP V8 engine. This is comparable to the 5 Series, not the cheap 3 Series of BMW. It shares the same chassis as the 5 Series. Similar Products Used: MDX, RX300, ML320 & ML430 |
