Expensive to maintain Lots of problems with computer parts, doors dont open, check coolant, check brakes, check oil lights keep gooing off. but no problems. brought it to open road bmw over 15 times for the same problem never fix. Once droped off the car for a week picked it up drove 2 miles away and the intire system goes off again. no i reached the 50k mark and they want to charge me to fix the computer system bunch of jerks. this makes me never wont to by another bmw. and this is my 3rd bmw I have a 330ci and a 745iL the IL also has computer problems the 330 had problems with its power seats but was fixed. The truck is beautiful, lots of power, not bad on gas. All around good suv. |

severly vibrates at idle, doors too heavy (but that is for safty reasons, if doors were made out of plastic it wouldn't bee heavy)High mantenance, windows sometimes don't work properly, sometimes doors won't unlock and lock, vents make lots of noice... warranty has a whole new meaning to me since I've owend a BMW, BringMoneyWithyou!!!!! It's a good SUV, nice in and out, very sporty, comfy seats, very roomy in back and good cargo space. Great in the summer with it's exellent A/C. Driving it is just a pleasure. |

X5 - premium/navigation
Strength:
+ Luxury vehicle + Rock solid feel-the car feels like one solid chunk of vehicle + Very good handling vs. other SUVs + Good acceleration and smooth shifts + Large winshield washer fluid capacity and headlight nozzels + Very good sound system + Excelent saftey features and lots of air bags + Rear seats have some ability to recline + Rear passanger climate control + Dual passanger climate control + Good residual value for leasing + Getting comfortable is easy in the cockpit
Weakness:
- Gas hog vs. other luxury mid-size SUVs (I am averaging 17mpg with a lot of highway) - Smaller cargo capacity than the MDX - No rear view camera with NAV system - No auto liftgate - CD changer is another $600 if you opt for the NAV system - NAV system does not have touch screen or voice commands - Location of NAV/Monitor requires the driver to take their eyes to far from the road and the complexity can require too much attention away from driving. This setup is far more dangerous than driving with a cell phone. - Radio station selection is very cumbersome - CD changer is located in the back of the vehicle - Defrost only runs at full blast - Prepaid lease miles are 5 cents more expenseive than other SUVs In summary, I love driving this vehicle. It has a very sleek look, solid feel, great responsiveness for an SUV and a good sound system. I do have some linguring reliability worries, in particular with the electronic systems. |

battery is inconveniently located in the back, roadside assistance not so reliable, expensive maintenance and buy be careful of roadside assistance and overpriced service at the dealer... i had to get my car towed and serviced for a dead battery and i waited from 0830-1300 for them to tell me that they could not help me out. what a waste of time! the car overly high maintenance. so if you're a low maintance person - like me - shop elsewhere. |

Ride handling is superb. Leather has a nice feel and the seats give good support. The braking and suspension are excellent.
Weakness:
A little rough sounding when it idles (but you can only hear it when standing outside). I plan to be inside where the air is calm and the world is smooth. Lights seem to stay on during day in auto mode. This vehicle is FANtastic! I almost bought the 03 to save a little but I am glad I waited. I have owned Lexus, Lincoln, Mercedez and this is my first venture into the world of BMW. I have read good and bad. Let's face it; some units are good and others are bad, however it starts and stops with your dealer. From our salesman to the service department, we have been in heaven! Had a little quirky problem with the BMW assist the second day and the dealer had me come right in. They have a policy that the customer must be met and properly greeted within 15 seconds of driving into the service bay. WOW - the guy was waiting with headset on and greeted me as I stepped out of my car. Within seconds he was on his headset and I felt like Mario Andretti waiting at a pit stop. THey had guys come from seemingly nowhere to attend to my problem. The service bay is amazing and they even have a local tech in a 5 series station wagon handling outcalls within a 30 mile radius. It was a big step for me to abandon my Lexus routes, but after comparing the GX, the new 5, the Acura MDX, Volvo Cross Country and the Mercedez Cracker Jack SUV, I am glad I landed here! BTW..the new electric hatch door is amazing! Also, I added the extended warranties to 100K for everything including tires and windshield. BUY THIS CAR from BMW of Austin it's at the PINNACLE! Quick, solid and gourgeous vehicle.high qulity build and a real cruiser on the high way does 80 like most cars do 40;great on gas too at 22MPG highway!!!
Weakness:
a little "harsh" on bumpy areas;modest space, luggage room just enough. Its overpriced for a brand new one I munt agree with many of the posts about being a skeptic about the X5 in terms of qulity and reliabilty. Fact is it has been the BEST car I have ever owned-bar none- and I bought it CPO with 35K miles!! Similar Products Used: MDX Grand Cherokee Expedition |
