Strength:
Nice looking, powerful engine, spacious, quiet ride.
Weakness:
Subpar quality, 10 mpg (city driving). Lots of rattles even though it is only 900 miles new. My first suv. It rides like a car. Good handling and relatively quick. Nice looking and good usage of space. However, a few problems/issues occurred and that ruined my overall delightful experience with this suv. First is the steering wheel making some scraping noise whenever the wheel turned. I made a total of 3 trips to the dealer and finally have it fixed. The second is the occasional hard starting. It cranks but just could not start. Try again and it would. This should not happen on a 40+ K car. Also, this car consumes gasoline like a V8. I get 10 mpg on city driving. |

Acura MDX
Strength:
-Good acceleration for a V6 -Best in class fuel economy (we got 17-19mpg, 20 using high octane gas at highway speed) -Great stereo -Basically everything is standard, leather, wood, sunroof, power everything -If you're nto a Burled Walnut connoisseur, the wood trim is just fine -Excellent value -It just goes in the snow(even with all season tires) -6 disc in-dash Cd changer is better than having it in the trunk -Great ride and handling -Abundance of cupholders and power outlets
Weakness:
-Some minor glitches occurred, beign the first year and all, all were covered free under warranty -4wd system doesn't go on ice(guess nothing does), 4wd malfunctioned but was covered -Subwoofer rattled, sponge tape fixed -tailgate was hard to shut, once it wore in it was fine -Front struts are needing to be replaced at 46kmi -doesn't like offroading Great ute. Clearly the best value out there. Can't argue with best SUV of the Year awards. If something went wrong that wasn't supposed to the dealer was happy to fix it for you. All covered under warranty. When in for service, you get a nice free Acura loaner car. The touring package is worth it, much more worth it than the Nav system. Acura MDX
Strength:
Powerful and responsive VTEC Engine Superb ride and handling for an suv Interior comfort and space Strong, clean exterior design 4wd system Acura quality and reliability Wonderfully comfotable seats Great sound system Anti theft SAFETY RATINGS!! Good gas mileage
Weakness:
More color selection...where is burgundy? No DVD/Navi option in Canada Roof Rack This is really minor stuff..... It is simply amazing the quality and technology that Acura has crammed into the MDX at this price range! This is by far the best value for your dollar in the mid size luxury sport utility class. After extensive research and test drives of all the immediate competitiion, including BMW (good but pricey) Lexus RX300, Mercedes ML320 and Lincoln Aviator, the MDX was better at everything. The handling, performance and ride are very impressive with the Vtec 3.5 260 horsepower engine. The 4 wheel drive system is second to none. Very nice to see the 5 speed auto in the 2003 as shifting at any rpm range is very responsive and smooth. The new vehicle stabilty control is a great addition as well! This thing handles bad weather with relative ease and never makes you feel as though you are driving a truck. Most important for me is the QUIET and silky smooth ride, nothing else comes close. Might want to check out the rust proof, paint protection, and extra sound proofing package offered after your purchase. Good value and makes sense for long term ownership and resale value. I got the new midnight blue pearl color with saddle tan leather, what a beautiful combination. The only dealer accessory I went for were the new chrome and black side step bars. Most other accessories seemed somewhat pricey, good list of choices though, depending on personal needs. All in all, I can't imagine a better suv out there for this kind of money. If I didn't know going in what the MDX costs, it would not have surprised me at all if the price sticker read: $65,000 Canadian (don't forget we can't get the DVD Navi option in Canada.....strange.) If you are considering this vehicle, don't hesitate for a minute, it is A FINE CHOICE FOR YOUR HARD EARNED DOLLAR! Just a wonderful vehicle to drive. All bells and whistles and more.
Weakness:
Gas mileage Like it alot. Great handling, very comfortable, good looks. Camera on rear is very neat. Great features. However, not good on gas at all. Either give better gas mileage or increase the volume of the tank Similar Products Used: Last vehicle owned was Honda Accord EX... Nice step up... |

MDX Touring w/Nav
Strength:
New 260HP engine and transmission Navigation system Use of space and appointments are first class Handling on ice and in snow is excellent. Feels like I am driving my 03 TL
Weakness:
Lack of inspection of assembled vehicle. Defects listed below should have been found. Defects include the navigation system touch screen locks up and rear view camera cuts in and out. Also door handle trim was not installed correctly and pulled out of door. (I easily identified and repaired the defect as I have owned a few Honda products and knew how the assembly went together) Rear storage bin in front of passenger side rear wheel is also incorrect type. Our vehicle does not have the DVD option but trim for storage was for DVD headsets in 3rd row seat. Trim is open to wheel well. This is our forth Acura and second 2003 model this year (otehr is 03 TL) and these defects were not expected to be found in an Acura. Excellent vehicle. This replaces our Chev Tahoe and is quieter, smoother, tighter, & more comfortable. The increased horsepower for 2003 and beefed up transmission along with other refinements have made for some very nice refinements over the 2002 model, a feat that I thought could not happen. Our MDX was delivered with a few quality assembly and operational defects, yet to be repaired as we live over 240 miles from dealer. Defects are listed under weaknesses. mdx w/ touring and navigation
Strength:
powerful yet quiet engine, smooth ride and handling, gps navigation system, versatile fold-down 3rd row seats
Weakness:
none so far - except probably the entry to the 3rd row seats which we don't use often. also, the low 3rd row seating position can be fixed with a booster cushion seat, available at your local r&s strauss. this is our second suv (we previously had a toyota 4runner). the mdx is by far the best, not only in terms of ride, quality and handling, but by virtue of its powerful engine and how it handles in adverse road condition. i tested it by driving the vehicle 90 miles south just in time when it was snowing hard. no problem at all! the navigation system is high-tech with voice-recognition and very, very accurate - truly amazing! my friends and neighbors all wanted to get in and experience the ride! the dealer also had it equipped with dvd entertainment system (including a separate vcr player). i had the running boards and rear spoiler installed to complete the package. Similar Products Used: volvo xc90 (with a deposit money that i still had to get back!) waited 4 months and can't wait any longer, so i had to switch to the acura mdx which by the way is the only one available at the dealers |

Strength:
Quality everywhere, Engine and performance, great 4x4 system, nice ride, very roomy interior, nice look.
Weakness:
Gas tank is too small....I would expect to have a minimum of 100 liters of gas (25 gal.) in a truck of this size. Great vehicle. Quit ride, high quality construction, great engine performance (especially for a V6). Already had the chance to test it in the snow and it worked very well. Good gas mileage also for a truck. Performance Value Reliability Well placed controls MPG Way better than anything in its class Great resale value #1 Almost perfect!
Weakness:
Waiting period. Less luxurious interior. Touring wheel design. This the best SUV in the market PERIOD. Performance, value and above all Acura reliability is a pretty hard combination to beat. This thing could run circles around just about anything in its class and more, regardless of what country it came from. BMW would give its left wheel to be as reliable.
