Strength:

The looks! Original. Very sporty combination of performance and handling. The way it catches the eyes of the girls.

Weakness:

Hard to find parts and manuals. Only manuals are those bought from the dealer, fairly expensive and not detailed. Red oxidizes and fades very easily. I am polishing it every other wash.

I have had this car for close to a year. I love it. I have had to do nothing at all to it besides the regular maintnence things. Extremely reliable. The original owner drove 100 miles a day to work in the MR2 before we bought it. Suprisingly it doesnt have any problems at all. I believe the MR2 was well worth the money if not more.

Model Reviewed: Mr2 Turbo

Strength:

This car is fast for a stock car. If you don't like modifying cars and want a fast car get an Mr2. I've raced Talon turbos and they take off due to their awd but come 2nd gear you catch up and 3rd you pull away. I raced Porche Boxter those things are over priced and don't have the good looks of a Mr2 and reliability. Type R's are a joke. For a car that is nine years old its pretty damn good. Did I mention I raced a S2000 those keep up pretty good. This is the only car that is pretty even in the end. Due to the S2000's low torque high horsepower it lags of the line but it comes quick at the end but not to beat the Mr2!!!!!! I love my Baby.

Weakness:

No rear seating. Sucks in the Snow. Long drives give you a numb bum. Gas mileage is not that great you get 350 kilometres a tank and a tank costs $30 canadian for supreme plus or 94 octane. Sucks in the rain.

This Car is awesome. It is very rare in Canada to find one without an accident. If you are like myself and have been screwed by insurance companies. Buy a car that is not modified cause insurance companies frown upon that in a right off situation. So buy a car thats fast and is rare and has all the good looks and reliable. Get an Mr2. This thing is rare. I would recommend the Mr2 Turbo to anyone. It may be a classic one day due to its rarity. Why I think this because in 91,93 they were only shipped to Canada. There only about 50 in British Columbia. In 91-95 the States got all shipments but they were the most stolen car in 91-93 due to high theft insurance rates went up and most people were trying to get rid of them. So in 94-95 was not bought by alot of people. I highly recommend this Car. I paid $19,000 Canadian and it only had 40,000kms 2 years ago. Get one. Excellent resale value and the market hasn't really changed since I bought it. I see some for the same price with higher mileage. This is a very low maintence vehicle for what it does.

Strength:

Handling, throttle response, exotic look, t-tops, reliability, and most of all, fun!

Weakness:

I can't drive it 24/7 (I have to work and go to class). Also, it can inspire one to speed :)

A dream! I cross the NEXT imports lot frequently on my way to/from class, and one fateful day, i strolled by perhaps the most beautiful car i'd seen there (note: there was a mkIV supra at the lot on the same day, and I gravitated towards the MR2). Against my better judgement, I took it for a test drive, and was blown away! The throttle response makes this thing lika toyota-made extension of your own body! I could take curves like my old civic could only dream about, and actually had to stop and adjust the 7-way seat to avoid sliding out! (the drivers seat had adjustable bottom tilt, lumbar support, and side-grip, it really holds you in place). This beauty is very torquey, and at a mere 2580 lbs (about 2620 with T-tops... wouldn't tradew those for the world) it zips. The suspension is top-notch, and coming from a front wheel drive gutless wonder, dropping the clutch in this rear-wheel drive mid-engined monster could actually give you whiplash!

Bottom line: Don't test drive it unless you can afford it, or you will live out the rest of your days in regret ;)

Model Reviewed: turbo

Strength:

Basically, every aspect of the car is strong; the motor, the handling characteristics and the braking.

Weakness:

On the 91-92 turbo models, they tend to have a bit more oversteer than the 93's due to a redesigned rear suspension and the addition of a Limited Slip Differential.

One of the best sports cars ever built for the price. You can pick up a used 91 turbo model for around 6500, give it a tuneup and your ready to go. Toyota claims a 0-60mph time of only 5.9 seconds and a 1/4 mile time of 14.4@96mph. Top speed is rated around 149mph. A very quick car that will out-handle A LOT of cars on the road.

Strength:

Reliability, Appearance, Grin factor, affordable mid-engined exotic

Weakness:

At the limit handling requires tremendous skill. The back end likes to swing around and bite inexperienced mid-engined drivers.

Amazing in every aspect. My car is almost 8 years old and still garners stares on the road. The car is basically a grown-up gocart. The power delivery and handling are excellent.

Model Reviewed: n/a Mr2

Strength:

Exotic looks, affordable price, dependable, economical. Predictable handling character, nimble, responsive.

Weakness:

The non-turbo Mr2 motor (5sfe) has almost a total lack of aftermarket support.

If you like to drive, I mean REALLY DRIVE. Then the Mr2 is for you. I've had a few sports cars, none satisfied as much as my Mr2. I appreciate it so much, I just may buy another. If I do it most definantly will be a turbo version. Still I'm very content with my non-turbo Mr2, this is a car that is for drivers who understand that true driving has very little to do with standing quarter mile times.

Strength:

Fast, amazing suspension, fun to drive, looks great. Easy to modify, easy to drive

Weakness:

Red paint fades a little (like all red cars) and repair costs are high.

I have owned a sport 1989 Toyota Tercel, a 1986 V8 Camaro, and my MR2. The MR2, hands down, is the most responsive, fun, sporty, and fastest car I have ever owned. It is Automotive Nirvana!
