Strength:

realiability easy to modify looks bad a$$

Weakness:

have to have another vehicle to move stuff (people, furniture, etc.)

Well the Lamborghini Diablo looks and the 17 inch rims make this car by far the baddest looking car ive seen. The sound of the blow off valve and t4 turbo let you and other know what this car has. It fly at speeds but slow off the line. Its comfortable with leather and the space behind the seats are perfect for a sub/amp combo. Handling is unbelievable. Ever passed a Kawasaki Ninja at 155+? It is very stable at high speeds and is the most reliable car i have. It doesnt strike fear into the eyes of the little rice rockets as does my 97 gt(543 rear wheel hp) but it makes for a good grociery getter. Sure most people dont race everything they own, they dont know what there missing.

Handling and Price

an OK accleration

This is one of the best, easyest handling, and funnest cars to dive (out of the ones I have had experience with. I bought this car from my friend that gave me a good deal, only 650!! And when i get my full time job this summer this MR2 will be off the chain. I am planing to upgrade the exaust, get a front body kit, new wheels and tires, and finish it off with a coat of nice glossy paint!! There will also be other small mods, but in all, the car and mods will stay under $4000. Now for that price I think i made a good choice on this car. It handles very well, and has an ok speed factor. Im only 16 and this car handles smothly and is a good car for me! Other cars that are in my familys possession are: 1991 Ford Xplorer 1994 Infinity Q45 2000 or 2001 ?? Mazada Mitia SE and now my Toyota MR2 or Mid engine Rear Wheel 2 seater

Strength:

This is a machine that loves to run. Not lightning fast off the mark, but once you are up-to-speed, very little else touches your power/weight ratio. You also have to watch yourself because its natural tempo is about 90 MPH. Driving uphill at 80 MPH and the traffic ahead is only doing 75? You pull out and accelerate to 90 in just a few seconds and you punch by everything. Mine is a fully loaded 5-speed and is my favorite vacation car - very comfortable. Plus, the legendary Toyota reliability. I have paid not one penny more than scheduled service over the last 10+ years, though I only use the car about 6 months a year during proper weather..

Weakness:

You must imagine Gene Wilder telling you these words in a setting similar to Young Frankenstein: STAY AWAY FROM SNOW. YOU WILL DIE, EVEN WITH SNOW TIRES. There is, after all, such a thing as a car being too balanced. Bought rims and winter tires, went out once, and realized that, even with my skid training, this is a car that you store during winter. CD player seems to be a weak spot, but I haven''t checked out the cost of a replacement. You don''t drive this car to listen to music anyway. You will also be stopped at least once a month by someone who wants to buy your car.m

Purchase price in Canadian funds. This is the car that Ferrari would build if they had to raise cash by producing a 4 cylinder model. Only this baby has better reliability and ergonomics. I thought it was a little pricey at the time (10 years ago), but just look at what you have to pay nowadays for similar mid-engined performance. o

Value. To get so much performance and good looks while also having such great reliablility is wonderful. It doesn''t make me compromise very much to own such a pure sports car - there''s a lot of interior room even for tall people, and so far everything works and keeps on working like any other Toyota so I''m really happy. It''s just great - what I wanted with no nasty surprises so far. I dreamed about owning an exotic car for a long time, and my car totally satisfies me. It really just makes me smile. Handling is excellent. The turbo motor is really really fun, the most fun I''ve ever had in a car. The t-tops work well - if you are under 6'' your hair shouldn''t move, and with the windows up the cockpit stays nice and warm. The turbo motors are easy to modify, and there is a large and dedicated community on the internet as well. I could go on...

Weakness:

Layout. I know the mid-engined 2 seat layout is part of the magic, but it is also it''s biggest weakness - not a practical car (2 seats, small trunk), pretty noisy on the highway (motor is a foot behind your head), expensive to fix (everything is impossible to get to), potential for scary handling (run in fear from snow!). It really takes skill to drive in bad weather. This car is definately not your mom''s minivan. Seriously, you could easily crash this car no problem without even trying. Finally, it''s pretty rare. Read up on the internet before you buy one, and then start looking for a good mechanic. It''s not that it breaks, it''s just that you will need to know your stuff.

Very good at doing what it''s intended to do. Not bad at doing everything else. Bottom line - this car measured up to months of my expectations, actually it blew them away, and still I smile everytime I get in. That''s rare for me! I wish I could have two. But then, I WANTED a tiny little sports car.

The BEST amusement park on wheels! The most gratifying vehicle I have ever driven. Go-kart feel when driven. Pure sports car approach in design, lightweight shell and a potent high-output engine(from such a small displacement). You owe yourself big time, if you haven''t driven one.

Strength:

Go-kart handling, gas saver, compact size, light weight, hardtop or moonroof available not just T-Top as in SC.

Weakness:

No torque until 5.5k-redline, even then it''s still not enough.

Great all around car, my only gripe is that the NA does not have enough torque unless at high RPM. Even when the 4A-GE is pushed to redline it''s still not going to pull or out run any force induced engines (SC or Turbo). Probably can be solved with an SC engine transplant. Other than the torque issue no complaints, it''s great with gas, reliable as any other Toyota/ Honda, has enough trunk space to carry minor things and if not that''s what the passenger seat is for. Note: Sometimes passenger may be there but heck, let them carry the extra cargo, price they pay for riding in a 2 seater. ^_^ The MKI''s weight and size is way better for tossing around compared to the MKII, although if driven right the MKII is pretty refined.

Strength:

Strong, bulletproof engines. Toyota skimps on nothing. All have excellent hadeling. Brakes are stellar on 93+ Turbo models

Weakness:

85-85: Small brake rotors warp. 85-86 Radio too low on console. 85-86 handbrake on left on console. Turbo models: restrictive exhaust, too quiet. Open it open for 30 extra hp and it''s still not loud. The turbo acts as a muffler. ALl MR2 Turbo parts are expensive. A timing belt change will be $1500. Double every price for labor... it''s a tough car to work on.

Excellent vehicles. I have owned a 91 & 93, a 92 Turbo, and a 86. The 86 is economical. Cheap aftermarket parts are available. Has a lot of luggage space for a small car. It is an extremely well built car with engines running 200K+. The cooling system must be completely bled of ALL air when changing coolant in order to avoid overheating. An easy task if you read the service manual. The 86 has a super-high reving (7500rpm), zero torque engine that has to be pushed, and go-cart handeling. The 91is heavier but has more torque. It is more of an economy engine (same as 4 cylinder Camry). These 5sfe engines will hit 300K+ miles. The 91+ models are more solid and heavier than the 84-89s... and a lot heavier. They are also much more tail happy and require a good driver on the track. The Turbo''s 3SGTE engine may well be the best Toyota engine ever designed. It is bulletproof. The transmission is also tough. Exhaust, intake, and boost controller yield 275hp without hurting reliability a bit! MR2s were designed for fun. But the Turbo model is serious in the speed department. Note: In 93, the suspension was revised to make the MR2 less tailhappy.... it had little effect, if any. Racers prefer the 91-92s. EXCELLENT

Weakness:

After you have owned a Turbo Mr2, everything else is not good enough, it is too dificult to find another car like this one.

(8/26/01)As I look for a new car today, I can not get over how much I got out of my mr2 for the last 8 years. Turbo-w-250hp, upgraded sports susp, 17'' OZ, clutch, brakes, camber, bars, ignition, bov, etc, etc, etc, etc. No other car will ever compare with the Turbo MR2. The handling, braking, looks, room inside, position, quality, reliability, easy to fix, easy to upgrade, rare out there, and the list goes on and on and on... This car makes everything else looks like just that "everything else" cars such as the s2000, WRX, GTS celica, S4, TT, Type R Integra, RX7, ZX, M3, even the Supra, do not come close, they just don''t have "it". If you are a race fan like I am, and race cars, and drive them to the limit like I do, pass bikes in turns at speeds of 125+, and embarras every car out there taking turns, then you will understand. This car is just perfect, the best ever made. If your car is not a rear/mid engine, rear wheel drive, two seater, 5-6 speed, that thing in your garage is not a sports car ok, get it! don''t lie to yourself anymore. Everything else out there is wrong, your wrong wheel drive cars, and your handle like s..t cars, just don''t cut it. As I am looking for a new car, only a Boxter-S and the NSX will porbably have the same qualities, I hope they do! by the way, I am keeping my 91 mr2 until I die, runs perfect, just want a newer toy. I am a foreign car guy, and a Senna fan.
