Model Reviewed: Ram Air WS6 Trans Am

Strength:

There is nothing NOT to like! The mean funtional hood scoops of the Ram Air set the car apart from everything else. It can even be used as an everyday driver and family car(which is its role). Interior is quite comfortable and can even fit adults in the back seat, though a little snug. Power of the 320hp LS1 is just awsome! Styling of the 98 and newer Firebird and Trans Ams are unmatched even by the Camaro SS. The car can take down ANY Ford!!!!!! Including the so called Cobra-R Mustang(yuck!!!)

Weakness:

The stock exhaust is way to quiet. Already replaced it with a Flowmaster system. Although, a DynoMax might have proven to provide a deeper growl. Depending on your insurance company, rates can either be extremely high or relatively low. Mine fortunately are low:)

Paid $30,000 on the nose. Would HIGHLY recommend! Especially a Ram Air equipped Trans Am! Car actually has more horsepower then the king, the '73 SD(super duty) 455 Trans Am...which produced 310hp until downgraded to 290 by end of that year. The look and styling of the car, especially the Ram Air equipped versions of the Firebird models by far out do the similiar camaro(z-28,SS) and just trounces the poorly designed and ugly mustang(ie rustang). The Ws6 Ram Air versions can even take down the so called super ford, the Cobra-R Mustang(which are rated at an apparent 385hp...though there were only 300 of those made so you'd probably never see one on the road anyways, especially since they have no features AT ALL(read..no A/C, no radio, no comfortable seats, no muffler to really speak of, and a price tag of over $53,000).
To give a comparison, a mustang GT is rated at 260hp(already 60hp less then a ram air Trans Am). The mustang gt only dynos out at the rear wheels at a measly 202hp(source......Horsepower TV) The mustang loses 23 percent of its power from engine to rear wheels!!!!!!!!
The Ram Air equipped LS1 v8 equipped firebird ws6 trans am is rated at 320hp and dynos out at the rear wheels at 285 or better! By comparison to the mustang, the v8 firebirds lose only 11 percent of the total engine power en route to the rear wheels instead of 23%!!!!!!!!!
And just for those die hard F(ound) O(n) R)oad) D(ead) owners, the more common mustang cobra(upgrade to the everyone has same old mustang gt), the mustang cobra is rated at 316hp, but only produces aprox. 250hp at the rear wheels...HOW SAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hurry and buy a Firebird before Pontiac decides to formally stop making them!!!!!!!

Model Reviewed: Pontiac Tran Am

Strength:

The Trans Am is a sweet sports car. Fast and road friendly, except in the rain or snow. This car can easily get away from you. The interior is nice and comfortable. Great Gas mileage for a v8 sports car. except in town when you are on it. Many upgrades. FAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSStttttttttt

Weakness:

A little rattle from the drivers door. Not a bad weather car. expensive to inshure. Don't buy unless you are willing to race any pony car that steps up to you, You will be them.

Nice car recommended to the sports car fan. great exhaust tone and fun to drive.

Strength:

the pick up is good and the gas mileage is also a plus. the styling of the car is eye catching even without a ram air hood. the leather seats add a nice touch.

Weakness:

besides the obvious of it being a horrible handling car in either rain or snow there wasnt anything i did not like about it.

overall i love the car but i still desire a 2001 trans am. I highly recommend this car because it has given me no major problems and it now has 110,000 miles on it. also this car is special since only 5000 firebirds were made in 1993. this car came with almost every option available that year. even being a 1993 this car still gets the attention and compliments it deserves!!

i have also owned a 84 and 87 trans am. the pick up is about the same as the 87 trans am. the spoilers on the 87(the wrap around) is nicer.

Strength:

powerful acceleration
very nice looking
beautiful interior
good leg room in front

Weakness:

not enough trunk rooom
not enough leg room in back seats

I paid $475 for my trans am and i got a great deal considering that the engine was running good.I fixed the rust and it was beautiful.
I would recommend this to anyone that want a powerful car and i good ride.I would not recommend it to anyone who does not appectation the power then you're stuck with a large car with a small interior. If you do not know how to fix rust and do body work i wouldn't recommend it to you or any other car.

Power, looks, turns heads, mustang killer, runs with the vettes (slightly mod)

Weakness:

insurance

paid 19000 used 18 months old with 30000 miles. I would have paid twice that the car in f*cking great. spent about $3000 in add ons for the engine (cam, headers, rocker arms, valve springs, flowmasters) and it would keep up with most vettes and burn the rest. stock the car is still very fast and will destroy any cobra

Strength:

Very powerfull car acceleration is neck-snapping. Handeling rivels cars 10years it's junior, coolness of driving a ledgend and the last big-block pontiac powered muscle car.

Weakness:

uni-body construction[i added subframe connectors] non-functional hood-scoop (easily modified to work why didn't pontiac take the extra step)

I am a hot-rodder so the amount of money invested in the old bird may sound steep to some $4700 in the engine alone, but I dont plan to ever sell this car with good maintainance and some luck this piece of auto history will live on the streets forever

Model Reviewed: /Firebird Formula 350 5.7L

Strength:

It's got lotsa lowend power for nice off-line races tons of power and huge tires all wheel disc brakes and not too bad on gas.And its a rare car too and theres losta posibilities as far as building the car you will max out at 996 h.p. and 990 f.t. at about $15,000 and about a year of work with the stock block.

Weakness:

Its a very high maintnence car one day it will be fine next day another problem no room in engine bay it takes like 2 hours to change one spark plug you'll run into problems if you don't watch it like it was one of your kids.but overall if you take care of it it's very reliable to and from places

I paid $4000 the car has 97000 which is not bad for a car that is 13 years old.I would diffentally recommend a GM 87-92 Firebird or Camaro just be carefull when you shop.If you get one take care of it and baby it.

Model Reviewed: Tras AM

Strength:

Unique and attractive styling, EXCELLENT acceleration - especially for the price of the vehicle, muscle car legacy

Weakness:

Typical GM interior fit and finish build quality

I love my car. I traded in a 1994 Camaro Z28 for this car when it was brand new, and at the time, I didnt think there was much of a difference between the LT1 and the LS1, but oh was I wrong. The regular Trans Am is rated at 305HP, but that is sorely underrated. My car dyno'd stock at 273HP at the rear wheels, which if you take into consideration an 18% drivetrain loss (I have an automatic tranny) that puts the engine HP at around 332.9 HP. I added a Borla exhaust, a whisper lid, and a K&N filter, and now my car puts out 292HP at the rear wheels, which is an estimated 356.1 HP at the crank. Not bad for less than $1000 in mods.

Alot of people dont like the long dashboard and hood, but thats the nature of the beast. The car is low to the ground and has long doors cause its a sports car. Theres alot of things about this car not to like if youre looking for an easy to live with economy car, but this is a sports car and I think that GM really outdid themselves. Although I like all the F-bodies, I think the 4 1/2 th Generation Pontiacs look the best.

My car has almost 29,000 miles on the ticker and to date Ive had to replace the driveshaft once (wasnt balaced right, replaced under warranty), and Ive had the front rotors warp once (very common problem with GM brakes). Other than that have not had any other problems.

I love my car and of anything out there within a reasonable price range, there is no other car I would buy.

Pleasantly surprised with this vehicle. Styling, performance and build quality are first rate. Considering performance from V6, fuel mileage is very impressive.

Weakness:

Present generation F-Bodies have that nasty catalytic-converter hump in the passenger floorboard.

You may look elsewhere, but you know you really like these!!!!
Go with your guts and buy one.
