Spacious for driver and passenger
Very simple setup of instrument gague
FUN to Ride!

Weakness:

can you say PROBLEMS?
-double sided TAPE was holding the door shell to its frame, it started coming loose at 30K miles
- Everything squeaks & rattles, including interior, doors, hatch.
- 99% of the inside is made of PLASTIC that "snapped" togather
- Engine need constant maintance, better be ready to shell ou lotta $$ for all the need mechanical problems that creep up
- parts for it are very Expensive and Hard to find
-Paint chips off of the front bumper

I was the 3rd owner, my car had 32K miles on it, was a 6cyl 3.4L. i put about 7K miles on it and spend several houndred on maintaince and fixing it. The engine was the biggest culpret always surging/shutting off.

Strength:

It's quick cheap fun, it sounds good and looks good, i've only lost to one mustang 5.0 and he had a bottle, bought at only 52,000 miles and there were only 300 of the convt. GTA's made. love the WS6 suspension

Weakness:

too cramped under the hood can't even change the spark plugs, replaced radiator and all the hoses due to leaking. the weather stripping leaks in a hard rain

I like the car cause i have a friend with a 94 Z28 350 and he's not too much faster than me for the differance in price don't get me wrong i would love an LT1 but i'm very happy with what i got. my car handles better and sounds great i put flowmaster series 80 on when i first got it and i love it, i ripped out the restrictive screen on my O2 sensor as well as my catalytic converter, i have a K&N airfilter on there as well as a few other goodies and am hoping to get edlebrock headers by the end of this month. i would recomend this car to anyone.

VERY VERY strong and fast car , excellent on gas mileage for a tpi 350 , stock exhaust sounds pretty good, cold a/c , good at cornering at high speeds , fun to drive , Got a good deal on the car. I'm a ford type of guy , but this GM is nice!

Weakness:

The rim and stereo are kinda of weak. To easy to get a ticket.

The car is perfect for anyone that likes sport cars,Its also a good car for the steets and track. I would recommend this car to people that like fast car that are fun to drive.

Model Reviewed: /Firebird 400

Strength:

I bought the body, and I yanked out the 335 hp engine. The guy had screwed up the camshaft. I built a 400 with 370 hp. It is all stock from 1969 and only has 9.5 to 1. I just polished it the right way. It has a 3.55 rearend. It'll run in the low 12's and high 11's without positraction. There is no stock 90's or 2000 American car that can touch me once I'm moving. It's got a 3-spd turbo 400 with a shiftkit and optional B&M shifter. I got Flowmaster Exhaust, too.

Weakness:

I need positraction. I left a 200 ft skid mark in first gear and then it screamed every time I shifted after that.
I need something to plant my rear tires.
I got power steering but no brakes or AC

Raw power

Strength:

Great Vehicle. Its excellent all around. 10-15mpg in the city and I can swear I was getting 25mpg on the highway. Can kill almost all Imports, except the ones where the guy has tripled his original investment. The Monsoon stereo has EXCELLENT sound quality with plenty of Bass.

Weakness:

Few minor things have happened.
*I have the steering wheel stereo controls, the LED light on ones on the left side of the steering wheel have gone out, in the process of complaining to Pontiac.
*Power steering pump went out, Carmax fixed it for free even after 50 days. (warrentty is 30) All you flamers are going to say, gee, thats a crappy car, I have been rally racing it on the hard sand on the beach for 6 hours. (Really, no bull)
*I live on the beach here in Florida and when it rains really hard it can't go through water thats maybe say... 9 inchs deep quickly, it will come in through the firewall on the passenger side of the car. Not a big gripe, not that I should be complaining, but its a problem.
*Check engine light came on, dealer fixed it free, it was a recall on the air/fuel mixture (some sort of component, can't remember)
*Keyless entry needs to be recalibrated.
*Thats it besides floormats, the passenger sides "bucket for feet" has a little increase in the left side causing floormats to get all messed up real easy.

I love my car. I will probably never get rid of it. I have had it for about 8 months and nothing is like the hard roar of the 350 LT1. I have a 6spd, not having been able to find a 1/4mile drag my best time on a 1/8th has been 9.333 Which isn't too bad. When I bypass the air induction system I will be getting 8.8's. As I said before, I valet lots of sports cars and so far the only one that came close was the 99 Trans Am, and it just didn't have the power that mine at least SEEMS to have. AND my friend agreed with me. The Mustang 4.6liter with a 5spd is a joke in its self and I won't go into that right now. Pretty much, my summary is this, The Firebird really IS one of the best muscle cars out there. Smokes tires with ease, 2 more seats than a Vette, and damn good handling with Dunlop Sport 5000 tires. And I am not going to give you any bull. The Camaros are pretty much the IDENTICAL car. The brand new SS has 5 more horsepower than a new Trans Am with WS6. 325<->320 respectivly. Its impossible to notice, the two vehicles will be exactly side to side with drivers of the same capability level. Just have to pick the styling. Best car I could have found for about 20k. I like The Firebird. ---Pontiac: Driving Excitement--- ---Firebird: The Muscle Car Lives--- (By the way, a little trivia, the Trans Am never actually raced in a Trans Am race due to the fact that the engine was too big and Pontiac couldn't devlop an engine below 302ci that had any decent power.) Email me with questions, I will be glad to answer, the.agent@gte.net

Strength:

Looked good, and it was FAST!

Weakness:

Reliability, and my local dealer was so incompetent that I finally started driving 40 miles to someone else. No bass from the 10-speaker sound system.

Yes, the car had problems: Three oil leaks (all small, all fixed at the same time), front defroster (fixed after five visits), rear defroster (fixed twice), rear brake rubbed and squeaked when taking corners at speed and sometimes when going over bumps (never fixed), paint on the plastic nose flaked off (repainted under warranty). These are not trivial problems, and they would surely rate a 1 or 2 star rating from many of the "I demand perfection" reviewers I've seen around this site.

Not me. I loved my car. I ordered it in '95 and sadly sold it almost exactly four years later (got married, planning a family, and it's not a family car). Yes the trips to the dealership are annoying (though I only lost the use of the car during the day while I was at work), and my dealer in particular was surely worse than most (I twice told them where the oil was leaking and they still did not fix it; the second dealership not only found the leak but showed me two others.) How then can I give it a high rating? Easy: It was FUN!

For about the price of a V6 Accord or Camry I purchased a big bad rip-snortin' V8-powered sports car with all the fun of a runaway roller coaster but without the long lines. Having a bad day? No problem: Drop the 6-speed into 1st gear and stomp on the loud pedal, feel your body press against the seatback, hear that sound that only a big V8 can make (especially if the t-tops are out), take that 45mph curve at 85mph and then your smile will return, if only for a while. (don't do that stuff too often or on busy roads, police are not very flexible when it comes to drivers of sports cars)

I know it was comparitively unreliable (extended bumper-to-bumper warranty is a must), I know it was impractical, and I don't care. It was FUN, and it's pretty hard to find a FUN vehicle these days, especially one that costs the same as a basic four-door sedan. It also rode pretty well on the highway, and believe it or not I regularly saw 27mpg (6th gear lets you cruise at about 1800rpm). The seats were supportive, the stereo sufficient, 8 hours to Tennessee and my butt didn't complain a bit. Basically the car was fun enough that the hassles were forgotten as soon as the keys were returned to me, and I don't think many other vehicles can offer that.

This car is fast. I've upgraded....mass airflow sensor, new throttle body, K&N cold air kit, K&N filter, pulleys, Borla exhaust... The styling of this car is awesome...I turn heads where ever I go. The handling is excellent. The interior looks great, but I'll talk more on the interior in the weaknesses. This is the funnest car I've ever driven.

Weakness:

The interior looks great, but feels cheap. RATTLES. EVERYTHING rattles, even the exhaust. The gas milage kinda sux, but that's to be expected. Insurance is high, but that's to be expected

I highly reccomend this car. The performance and the styling are matched only by cars costing thousands more. The handling leaves you in complete control. If I could change anything about the car it would be the quality of the interior.

Looks, sound, size - Quite rare in the UK which is nice. Nice to drive. Can get parts for it quite easily, even in the UK.

Weakness:

4.9Turbo engine, reason why I swapped it to Pontiac 400 block! Squeaks and groans from body. Uses petrol like no tomorrow.

Would recommend a 2nd Gen Firebird to anyone, just avoid 4.9 Turbo and anything below Formula. Early 70's cars have more power, but easy and cheap increase power. To see my car goto www.transam-uk.co.uk..

I love everything there is about firebirds. They rule and everyone knows it they just have a little thing called pride and wont admit it. Also, the Sport Appearance Package is the Best!

Weakness:

THERE ARE NO WEAKNESSES!!!

I would recommend it becuase it is a great car. It has very nice features on the inside and all I ever hear is people complain about not having enough room in the back. For one thing, its a sports car, its not suppose too. Another thing, I am 6'2 and I am comfortable sitting in the back. Try squizzin into an extended cab truck with only 2 doors. The outside design really fits the car and the Sport Appearance package just makes it look alot better. I also love the pop-up-lights.

Similar Products Used:

There is nothing similar to this car, especially the camero or the mustang. The camero may be its twin when it comes to parts, but the firebird has won every race there is between the two. And Mustang isnt anywhere near the same class as firebird.

Strength:

-Sexy looking car
-Strong V6 motor when backed by the 5 speed manual
-Decent handling
-Sporty instrument cluster and dash layout
-Even thought this car was a base model I still received many compliments on the appeareance.

Weakness:

Summed up in one word-LEMON
-Gas tank was loose and bumping around from the factory and the dealer installed two more before they got it right
-Car was equipted with 4-wheel disc brakes and the rears squeaked(very bad) from day one. Dealer replaced the pads twice but issue was never resolved.
-Throttle possition sensor went out at 8000 miles.
-Clutch was replaced under warranty due to excessive noise.
This car was such a problem that the dealer gave us a free 100k warranty for compensation. They would not give us another car but found logic in the warranty-STUPID. We went round and round with Pontiac on this car an I will never own another one of their products. This car was pampered from day one but that was not enough.

The Fireturd has since been traded off and I am glad to say that it is all over with. I have owned many sports cars both new and used and this one was a piece of s***. The one good thing about it was that we got a good amount of money for this lemon due to low miles and it is now someone elses problem. The car only had 28k and a long list of problems when it was traded. I put a Flowmaster exhaust on it and I only use Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil so that was a big waste of my money just like the car. Pontiac's customer service was no help nor was the dealer therefore everything we got was from the Zone Manager and that was like pulling teeth. All we wanted was another car but that was asking too much!

I don't like Fords but my girlfriends 94 Mustang was traded for the Firechicken and it was a BIG mistake. The Mustang had over 80k on it and not a problem one.
