Strength:
Performance: - handling...glued to the road - steering...goes where you point it NOW - braking is superb...stops on a dime - 6spd manual...quick & fast Looks: - styling can't be beat - interior well laid out - good leg & head room (I'm 6'3") - lots of attention wherever you go
Weakness:
- limited visibility...use your mirrors - low...careful w/ curbs, speed bumps - folks under 5'5" can't see out too well A drivers car that handles like one. If you're in the market for a 2 seat sports car do yourself a favor and look at this one. While the Z is not the quickest, fastest, or best handling sports car in the world, it possess a balance of all three hard to match for your money. Ditch the leather, GPS, automatic transmission, Bose, etc., and invest your money in the mechanics of the car. All that lux-o-junk is what killed the old 300Z...turned a sports car into a wanna be luxury car w/ 2 seats. You can buy lots of go-fast parts (superchargers, brakes, adjustable struts to name a few)with the money you save and come in around $35K-$40K with a machine few can match at any price. For those who haven't driven sports cars, a 350Z isn't a Honda Civic. It has the power to shred tires and break parts, and you WILL break something (the car or your bones) if you jam the gears like you're in Fast n' Furious. Strength:
Handling, acceleration, looks, standard 17's, good warranty, cool lights, great seating position for tall folks, exhaust note, torque, fun factor...
Weakness:
mechanics fix one problem and replace with another, rattles, rattles, rattles, fit and finish, transmission and alignment on cars manufactured in 2002, cargo space, visibility, seat cloth fray at 3k miles. This car has been such an integral part of my life for about 3-4 years. I Lusted over the idea in '99 when the very first concept came out. I have been waiting for so long, and now lust is failing as I drive this car over the 12,000 mile mark. So far I have been serviced under warranty 8 times in 8 months! Dont get me wrong, Nissan has fixed everything including TWO transmissions without any questions or hassle. Nissan's warranty is excellent...now the problem is the car itself and the mechanics that dont know what they are doing. Both revolve around the fact that the Z is a first model year, so those of you reading this review a couple years from now hopefully these problems are resolved. On the flip side, Nissan has had "little problems" that drives this previous honda and toyota owner nuts! Other gripes include the numerous rattles and creaks and panels not fiting flush anymore. One thing to keep in mind, I am hard on my cars and have had similar probems with american cars and german cars, so at least reliability is "average." I have never had these problems with my honda civic, and I tortured that car 3x as much. I think you all know the positive aspects about this car, just read any of the glowing reviews posted online by magazines. I write this review to remind you that this car IS a Nissan and it is new model, so be prepared to get annoyed if you drive the car like its supposed to be driven. Unfortunately, hondas are so slow I think Im doomed. BTW, Ive never lost to any car: including '03 Mustang Gt, '03 Firebird, audi s4, s2000, rx7. **** I would give the car a 3 or 4, but since the retarded trolls trampled through, I must post a 5 to offset their ratings. Engine performance and handling are no dough the strength of this vehicle.
Weakness:
WELL... Tires, Transmission & failure from Nissan to produce, sell and deliver a vehicle not ready to meet the consumer’s high expectations. I am NOT a happy Z owner. My car (along with 3 other Z’s) is at Courtesy Nissan to have new transmissions. If this was not enough to upset a new car owner add to the list: Front tires feathered due to lack of specs at time of delivery; Window tracks/sliders; Value oil leak. Needless to say after being a loyal Nissan owner for over 15 years I plan to sell/trade my car as soon as I am able to not take a loss??? Similar Products Used: Audi TT & Honda S2000 |

Strength:
Looks, Handling, Power and PRICE!!! Japanese reliability. By the way the V6 in the 350Z has a timing chain so no belt to worry about replacing at 60k miles...same as BMW.
Weakness:
Not very ergonomic, blind spots, too stiff for long trips (should have adjustable struts)and very limited cargo space compared to a BMW 3er ok if compared to other 2-seaters. crappy sound system, need to buy better models for stability control (excellent wet weather feature). Claustrophobic feeling in cockpit. Lease program could be better. I just spent some time behind the wheel of this VERY FUN vehicle and have a review I would like to share. I currently lease a BMW E46 (323ci) and a close friend owns a E46 (330ci) so my review will be heavily compared to the BMW 3 series. I have also spent a great deal behind the wheel of a new Mustang GT but still do not like the handling of the nose heavy and straight rear axel handling of the fast pony but it should still be considered for people that love gong fast in a straight line. Of course the 2005 Mustang with new chassis, independent rear axel and new engine should be a major improvement from Ford. Now… My opinion. The new 350Z is one nice looking car and will make you get many looks as you pass people. As for handling it will beat anything under the 30k price range. I would not even think of comparing a true rear wheel sports car to ANY front wheel drive car at ANY price…. (on dry pavement). All front wheel cars suffer from poor balancing and can’t ever compete… at least not yet! As for its engine performance the car is very fast and probably can only be beaten by a Mustang GT in the under 30k price tag. But take a few turns and the Mustang will only see your tail lights. As for Ergonomics….. this is where the 350Z really disappoints me. This is also why I will tell you guys why you should also HEAVILY consider a new BMW E46 since the 325ci is about the same price and the 330ci is about 5k more then the top model 350Z (with premium sound and sports package on the BMW). Anyway, the 350Z has doors so high you will not be relaxing on a nice summer day with the arm out the window and give you a very claustrophobic feeling). The rear view is SO HORRIBLE that you will not see the windshield of the car behind you if he is more then 50ft away…. It will take getting use to. The center console has no arm rest for those that shift in heavy traffic and this will cause fatigue. I have decided to stick with BMW and will tell you all that YOU SHOULD DRIVE a 330ci BEFORE buying a 350Z!!! The 330ci is nearly as fast even though it hast about 50 less HP and will handle as well as the 350Z on any track or any road in my opinion. PLUS the BMW will be FAR more comfortable, has a FAR better interior, the HK sound system blows away the Bose, has WAY more cargo space, a back seat, less blind behind you, feels better balanced, has better steering (350Z is too light), the breaks on the 330ci are huge and work well (although the Brembo’s on the 350Z are nice). Many more things can be considered but you should find out by yourself by driving the BMW and the 350Z. I know other will say you can buy the 350Z for much less with the lesser models and save considerably over the BMW but the BMW comes standard with features that will only come in the better 350Z models… such as stability control and huge breaks. Plus BMW’s are much more configurable as far as options go… you only pay for what you need! Typical of Japanese companies you MUST have some features to get others and I always hated this…. Packages suck! Final note: If you need is a weekend fun car that will punish many cars on the road today with a combination of speed and handling the 350Z wins hands down with pure FUN factor. Since it does feel “sportier” then the BMW. But if you desire to take long trips, carry luggage, take extra passengers and like having the prestige of owning the BMW name then drive one and see for yourself how awesome the “Ultimate Driving Machine” really is….. Also I did not forget Corvette…… it’s a 350Z with more “balls”….. if you want to pay 8-10k more. I can’t recommend the BMW M3 due to its nearly 50k price…. Also the BMW I6 and the Nissan V6 are both considered the best 6cyl engines in the world and both are extremely reliable…. With the BMW feeling smoother through the RPM range but not by much……. Enjoy your test drives and if the 350Z’s shortcoming don’t bother you its one AWSOME deal for the price…. Hands down!!!!!! If you think your front wheel drive car handles well then you have never driven a real rear wheel drive independent suspension sports car and will be blown away by how much better it will feel compared to the front heavy front drive cars most kids tend to like these days. outstanding performance.. this car drives like its on rails.. glued to the pavement no matter what and it flies.
Weakness:
suspension is too harsh for GT version. on poorly paved roads.. wavy concrete in Illinois... the car sets up a bouncing standing wave !!! bucks along for miles until you stop and start over... dealer claims suspension is fine... should provide a tunable shock you can dial in from the cockpit... or enough space to put in Tien's. Nissan ought to use Chicago as part of its proving ground ! Outstanding performance from a touring edition w/ auto. smooth and powerful acceleration, plenty of power throughout, excellent handling, esp. steering feedback, excellent braking.
