Strength:
I purchased a GT Convertible that looks awesome. The car has plenty of power, but it guzzles gas.
Weakness:
After six weeks of ownership, I took the car in for an oil change at a Ford Dealership. They discovered a problem and had me inspect the bottom of the car while it was up on the rack. The entire bottom of this "new car" was rusted. I was in total shock! When I took the car back to Galpin Ford and demanded that they replace the car, they basically told me to go pound sand. Now I'm stuck with a "new car" that is rusting out. Totally unfair. Since then, I have heard nothing but horror stories about Ford products. I am so disappointed with Galpin and Ford. I know. Don't tell me. I have been ripped off. Anyone know a good lawyer?..... I spent 27 grand on a "new" Ford product that it rusting out. When I complained to the dealership, Galpin Ford, they basically told me that since I purchased the car, it's now my problem, not theirs. When I complained to the Ford Motor Co., I got the same response. Believe me, quality is not a consideration or factor as Ford preaches. And their customer satisfaction sucks. I ask myself over and over, how can any reputable car dealership sell a car as "new" with such a serious problem. Take my advice, be cautious when purchasing any Ford product. Just look at the trouble that they are currently in with Firestone. Hey Ford and Firestone, how many people had to die before you were willing to admit that there was a problem with your product? Too many. Similar Products Used: A stock Camaro Z28 will rip the doors off a modified Mustang GT. |

Ford Mustang
Strength:
Good looks, smooth shifter, upright seating position provides a more useful view than a Camaro, firm but comfortable ride, good economy(fuel and insurance are cheap w/3.8 engine). The base model comes with quite a bit of goodies standard. Upgrade to the 16" wheels if looks are most important to you.
Weakness:
Clutch is tough to get used to at first.I come from a large truck where you can feel clutch clearly. The Mustang's clutch is silky smooth with a short travel. You must drive corners with throttle ON or the car becomes very 'floaty' - very disconcerting at higher speeds. Road noise does add to sporty feel, but becomes tiresome on longer jaunts. The headlight switch is oddly positioned behind steering wheel. Would be better down and to the side a bit. We bought the 3.8 Mustang off the lot for what we considered a reasonable price. Car is a true blast to drive. My brother drives a Jeep CJ-7, and cannot stand ANY car, and even he had to admit that it both looked good and was great fun to drive. The V6 does a good job of moving the car. I find it is slow off the start(1st gear), but can quickly make up the slow start if you are willing to push the engine just a bit. The dark green color looks great but will need constant attention to stay sharp looking. I would recommend the Mustang to anyone that is wanting a sporty car and is willing to remember that a car is just a car and compromises must be made. - If you want a sporty, fun to drive car, then you will have to live with sometimes tricky ingress/egress, a touch of engine and road noise, and you will also have to plan your trip packing carefully, as room is sometimes lacking in the Mustang. Otherwise, the Mustang is wonderful! Similar Products Used: First sports car owned. Drove a 1998 Camaro for a little bit. The Mustang is (slightly) easier to get into and out of. The seating position is better in terms of vision. For taller drivers, the Mustang's roofline doesn't block as much as the Camaro's. |

3.8L V-6
Strength:
The 3.8L V-6 produces 190hp - enough to beat most other V6's on the road today. The 5-speed manual will get you to 60 in 7.1 seconds, opt for the 4-speed automatic (as I did) and that times increases to 8 seconds flat. Acceleration is a little sluggish at first when moving through the lower RPM's, but as you get near 3000RPM, the car feels like it has another 50 ponies under the hood and it takes off. This creats a slower 0-30 than expected, but once you get past 30mph, you can pretty much out accelerate any other V-6 (and a few of the smaller V-8's). Passing on the interstate is very easy, but watch it - stay on the pedal for more than a few seconds and you will be looking at 80mph. Which brings us to another point - this vehicle drives like a gem at cruising speeds. Using only 2000RPM's to maintain 63mph, the engine runs quiet and smooth. Step up to 80mph, and your only looking at 2450RPM - and with a 5300RPM redline, the engine begs you to take her faster! In terms of appearence, some people really dislike this car - I love it. It has a wider, heavier, more substansial look than did the previous model. The interior is sporty and functional and allows more space than most sports cars. I am 6'1 260lbs and I feel that I have plenty of room. The standard CD-player and 4 factory speakers are loud and clear - they can produce highs and lows remarkably well and I see no need to go with an aftermarket radio or speakers unless you are a real audiophile. The trunk is large enough for grocery shopping or to accommodate 3 or 4 pieces of luggage.
Weakness:
I have drivin my 2000 Mustang for just over 2000 miles and the only real weaknesses that I can identify are minor little design gripes. The radio could be easier to operate and Ford could have stepped up to bulkier 16 inch tires on the standard V6 coupe (I think 16" tires will be standard in the 2001 model year). Other than that, I have no real compliants about this vehicle. The Ford Mustang offers great value and a real eye catching design. The vehicle is powerful and a better value than most other entry level sports cars. Mustang's have a higher than average re-sale value and they can offer power windows, locks, and mirros, a 4-way power drivers seat, A/C, cruise control, rear window defogger, CD player with AM/FM cassette, remote keyless entry and trunk release and a leather interior for less than $20,000 - something few cars can do. I am very happy with my purchase and would not hesitate to recommend this car to anyone who is looking for something practical and sporty that offers real performance at a reasonable cost. Similar Products Used: I had always wanted a Camaro - until I drove one. First, getting into one is like sliding into a coffin. Once inside, you sit very low and the position of the seats make it feel like you are sitting on the floor with your legs straight out. The view out of the rear is horrible because you sit so low in the car and the back end sticks up so much. Sure, the base camaro offers 10 extra horsepower, but is it really with the uncomfortable interior? Plus, the camaro is due to disappear from the Chevy line up in the next year or two because of slow sales and the camaro costs about $2000 more than the mustang when equally equipped. Furthermore, the Camaro has had the exact same body since 1993 (with only a minor headlight re-design) and so it has an aged appearence. This compares with the Mustang which was totally re-done in 1999. Other competitors such as the V6 Chrysler Sebring costs a few thousand more than the Mustang and the Japanese competitors can't touch the performance. |

- well, mine is beginning to get a bit of rust on it, but it's barely noticeable. Still, I would prefer to go without it. Overall, my Mustang has been an excellent first car. It's fun to drive, and in nice weather can be an excellent car. It looks great (with the additions I've put on to spice it up), and I've pretty much had no mechanical problems whatsoever. I paid $2700 including taxes (canadian money), and I feel I got a very deal on it. I'm very happy with it, and would definetly buy a Mustang again. When I have more money and can afford to own two cars at once. (one for the winter, and the 'stang for the summer.) none This was the car I learned how to drive on. My dad bought it new, and for about a year, it was my daily driver. The only mods it had were and off-road hpipe, a k&n and koni shocks. Saddly, my dad sold it a few years back. It was very fast and alot of fun to drive. While not as refined as the sho or the cobra, there's nothing like the roar of a pushrod v8. Everytime you come around the car, your heart beats to the rythm that the engine roars out. You know that no matter how you look, you are only going to look better once inside. Even chevy owners and rice-rocketeers could look good!! The handling is better than what 95% of the world drives or will ever drive. It acts as if it is on rails, hugging and grabbing every corner begging for more. The engine starts with a majestic roar, tingling down your spine everytime, alerting you to the green glow of stoplights awaiting you. The power flows from the engine effortlessly, just like the flow of water going over Niagra Falls, powerful and awe-striking. Don't kid yourself and say that you have had better. You aren't in the 5% that owns exotic cars. If you are, hats off to you!! The car is amazing, hands down!!! If it isn't then why is it going to be the only muscle car left. See ya later camaro and firebird.
Weakness:
My father has driven close to a million and a half miles in only FORDS for the last 25 years plus. I myself have owned 3 FORDS, all which have gone well over 100,000 miles with no problems at all. They only seemed to get better with age. Just like wine and cigars!!! So tell me if FORD is so bad then why are they the number one automaker in the world. Why have their trucks been number one for 23 years in a row!!!! Must be doing something right!!! No one can catch them. If so, then show me differently. Nothing explains FORD better than having three generations in my family driving and owning only FORDS. All cars are the same, the only differences is the owners. I find that the majority of people that owned american made cars mistreated them and abused them, but when they bought their foreign car they cared and treated it with respect. Prove me wrong!! I have seen it way too many times. Similar Products Used: None |

Mustang 3.8L
Strength:
Great looking car that brags about itself. Gas milleage is about the same if not better than previous 4cyl cars I have owned. Great single or two person road trip vehicle. Very dependable and still runs great for a 70 plus thousand mile range. I spend most of my day in that car.
Weakness:
3.8L doesn't have the sound or power that a cocky college student wants. It can beat most cars off the line with a 5-speed manual, but drops into the backfeild rather quickly. And hubcaps on a mustang, what a joke!! My parents paid about 10,000 for it and the car is worth the money. However, this car attracts negetive attention and has a tendency to get keyed...a very costly repair bill. The only expensive repair work required on the car thus far has been consequences of me showing off. Other than that I've had it through two South Dakota winters and have had no problems even without a block heater. She runs like a dream even though she could run a little faster in my book.
