Strength:

Looks good. Very good AC, Texas summers are hot and long. Mach460 sound is very nice for a factory unit. Good torque for a V6, a little flat at the upper rev range, it's a mid range engine for sure. Chevy owners rev thier engine for me.

Weakness:

The pedals are awful. I noticed it did not seem right when test driving but thought it was something I would become accustomed to, I was wrong. If you know how to heel and toe, you had better be wearing snow shoes in this thing. After 6 months and several revisions I have made a new throttle pedal that allows heel and toeing, but only during hard braking since the brake pedal travel is so long, the brakes need less travel and more pressure, yet most situations of downshifting while playing on country roads are not at maximum braking. The clutch, way too much travel, I nearly hit my knee on the steering wheel when using it and it is too close to the brake pedal, or is the brake pedal is too far away from the throttle. The later is my guess since my throttle pedal is 1 3/4 inch wider that the stock unit. If only Ford had put the Focus pedals in the Mustang. The rear suspension has a tendency to leave mother earth on bumps, rather disconcerting when the affore mentioned pedals are giving you an ugly downshift while braking on turn-in to a corner. CD player, shifter, cup holder--fire the ergonomics engineer! He is probably the one who did the pedals.

If doing sprited sports driving the right way is not an issue or you want an automatic tranny, it is a good babe magnet. If you know how to drive 3 pedals with 2 feet at the same time, go Japanese or European. To me the pedal arrangement seems right out of a WWII Willys JEEP. The best I can figure is Ford does not see the Mustang as a sports car, it can not be driven as one properly. The climate control is outstanding, and the radio can drown out any road noise you do not want to hear. Ten windshield wiper speed setting are nice to have on dizzly days. Overall braking performance is good except on bumps, that rear suspension will bite. Fuel economy is what I expected, 21mpg city. Shifter travel is a bit long, but nothing that rates as a real negative, it grows on you. In short I would love this thing if I could find a well designed aftermarket pedal set. But since I have not found one yet, this thing will probably be on the auction block soon since, to me, it is undrivable at speed on the twisty back country roads.

Strength:

Handling is top notch in this car. Respectable power with 150+ top speed
ohhhh gotta love it! Inside lining on the top is nice touch. More head room then the hardtop. Brakes are awesome, ABS flawless what else can I say.

Weakness:

How about making a little legroom. I'm 6'01" and cant recline seat far enough. Didnt buy the car for fuel economy or passenger room but I need more legroom in front seats. What happened to the Mustang rumble? Its gone sounds like a V6! The biggest weakness is that Ram Air Camero and Ram Air Trans AM are faster. Ford drops the ball on this.

The Cobra Rocks! Other then minor flaws I have no problems recommending this car.

Leather seats are very comfortable. Highway ride is very nice, and driving around town is just as fun. Being able to merge on to any highway, or take just about any car off the line is impressive.

Weakness:

Could benefit from the independant rear suspension from the Cobra. Just a comment for anyone complaining about gas mileage while driving a V8 Mustang. Why the hell did you buy the car if you were looking for gas mileage? That's like complaining about space after buying a Geo Metro

This car is unbeatable for the money. Added a K&N Filtercharger, 2 chamber flowmaster mufflers and a Steeda Tri-Ax shifter. I run Mobil One Synthetic oil and it makes a big difference. Plan on putting on a set of BBK Underdrive pulleys, Vortech 80mm Mass Air and BBK 70mm throttle body. Will be pushing out well over three hundred horsepower. Nothing beats the sound of a Ford V8 w/Flowmasters.

Strength:

Ford Mustangs have been around since 1964. Truly an American Icon and definitely one of the all time favorites. I just love how this car evolved all throughout these years. I have a 1999 Mustang and I just love it. Very good acceleration, very very nice styling (get a lot of compliments), very good handling and cornering ablities (specially after some Strut and Shock modification including 17x9 Cobra Rims),very nice engine rumble (specially after installing a MAC Cold Air Induction kit with Borla Dual Exhaust system),A lot of aftermarket accessories available as well.

Weakness:

The interior could be better but after some modifications definitely very attractive.

I would definitely recommend the Ford Mustang for anybody who is looking for a true sports car. You get excellent styling, good acceleration, price is the best (I don't see any other car matching the mustang's capabilitites as far as price is concerned.) For the money you can't go wrong with this car I am very happy with my purchase and I plan to keep the car for a long time.

Similar Products Used:

Acura Integra - Integra lacks the engine rumble a mustang can produce, The Integra also rides very harsh compared to the Mustang, not as comfortable as the Mustang specially during long trips.

Strength:

-Great Look!
-Decent Acceleration for a v6..could be a little more hefty..put dual exhaust on.
-Loving the Auto-Start
-Good Price
-17 inch Cobra Tires...mmmmmmmm

Weakness:

-Gas Mileage
-Winter is a little hazy... (read below)
-More Power..but good for someone my age (16)

I love my car in the summer.. No doubt.. The dual exhaust I put on makes it sound A LOT more throaty (more then a V-8) I have the 17 inch Corba rims with the big snow tires. I also am going to fix it up some more when I have more time. BUT now it is winter time. We just got hit with a huge storm that we are getting bout 12 inches of snow. The car drives fine in the snow if u weight it down in the trunk and have good tires..it just can't go up inclines well becuase of the rear wheel drive. So far it is a little neusance with these BIG STORMS but other then that..no problem besides a little paint chipping..

very powerfull v6 compared to the 98 model, Better sound all thought a duel exaust would be better sounding, but that can be put on after the purchase

Weakness:

needs duel exaust, kinda slow through first gear but very good pickup soon after. back seats are kinda small

I would recomend this car for anyone that wants a powerfull engine without the high insurance, big differance from the v8 but is a very impressive car overall.

Strength:

Head turner, the new edge styling gives it a more euro look. Power, good old American muscle car performance. 4.6 double overhead cam allows for higher revving compared to the GM oudated pushrod technology. IRS, (independant rear suspension), will definitely blow away anything with a live rear axel. Tremec 5 speed and clutch are a smooth duo, and transmit the power to the pavement with relative ease. Price, was less expensive than the comparable GM twins.

Weakness:

A little toubled that Ford would market a car with similar performance characteristics to the GM twins, only to find out the initial production vehicles were potentially lower than advertised. However, no problem, Ford and the dealer fixed the problem quickly, and is now putting out the approx. 320 horses. Fuel consumption, especially if haevy footed. I'm really not complaining, because if this were important I should not have bought the car in the first place. Forget about using the back seat, there is none.

This car has not even seen a drop of rain, and is covered when not in use, sorry I'm anal about my car. I have added a "Borla Performance Side Exhaust", "K&N Filter Charger" and "Jetchip Performance Chip". The car now pumps out approx. 380 hp. Camaro SS & Firebird Ram Air's are no longer a problem, in fact, I would love to pull up alongside the new Corvette Z06. For a few extra dollars you can transform an otherwise stock sports car into something very special. GT owners can also experience performance increases with these additions. Would definitely recommend this car to anyone looking for a fun, exhilarating ride. Not to mention a boost in testosterone levels, if your into that.

GM twins (Camaro SS & Firebird Ram Air). Stock Cobra will not compete in a straight line run, but will definitely outshine in cornering or on a road course.

Strength:

I love the styling, it bends modern styling with the classic lines from the 65-66 Model years. It has decent power, can get you out of trouble and into it if your not careful. The MACH 460 radio is a pretty good OEM radio for listing to music etc.

Weakness:

Stock Goodyear Gatorbacks
Transmission troubles
minor fit and finish problems

Well like I stated before it has decent power, but it lacks that typical low end grunt that typical american muscle cars have. I've had a lot of minor fit and finsh problems with my car. The IP panel around the radio had to be replace since the finish wore off around the radio near the buttons and also the radio had to be replaced for the same problem after having the car a year. Also my trim moldings near the windows had to be replaced after getting mottelled up from UV exposrer I'm guessing. Biggest problem with the car is the T-45 transmission. I've been having problems with the car popping out of reverse, if your lucky the transmission subcontractor was changed late in the 1998 model year (april time frame) these problems have been cut down, but if you own a 1996 to 1998 model year expect some type of Transmission problem. The OEM Tires SUCK!!! Be careful in the winter time when its below freezing out...they turn into rocks and you slip all over the place till they warm up. Also they suck really bad in the rain. I would suggest getting Nittos or better goodyears to replace them. I could also suggest getting Firestone firehawks but after the Explorer incident with their tires I will be keeping clear of them. If your looking for a fun car to drive thats more managable then a Z/28 or firebird, consider the Mustang.

Model Reviewed: SVO

Strength:

Power, HANDLING, gas mileage, uniqueness of the car (gets a lot of looks).

Weakness:

3.73 rearend in 85-86 years requires frequent shifting, fuel pump is inadequate for high boost levels (upgrade it to a high flow unit). Firm suspension makes for a rough ride sometimes.

This review is for the 84-86 Mustang SVO. This is the low production hatchback with the 2.3L turbo engine. Engine puts out 200hp, same as the much heavier 302 V8 for that year. Brakes are 4-wheel discs, Koni air shocks are standard, as are 16" wheels. This combonation, along with the light weight of the engine provides excellent handling. Body roll is non-existant.
The SVO was designed to compete against european sport sedans (BMW), and does a good job at it.

Similar Products Used:

Test drove a 99 Contour SVT, which has similar stats, 200hp, 5 speed. Unfortunately, both the Mustang SVO and the Contour SVT have been discontinued.

-Excellent power for a 4 banger, crisp shifting 5-speed, stylish good looks- This car handles like it is on rails-- When provoked tire smoke is plentiful, and acceleration is decient-- braking is even better though-- when braking hard you feel as if you are going to be flung foreward out of your seat. The interior is well appointed, the seats are comfortable, and the vision is ample-- THIS CAR IS THE MOST FUN IN THE RAIN AND SNOW -- In the rain or snow just the slightest coaxing is enough to pursuede the mustang to take you sideways ( always fun :-) ) -- Very reliable never been stranded, never had any major repairs( just normal items tires, battery, and routine maintenence ) this is an awesome car i have wrecked it ,and flooded it and i still cant kill it -- its a great car. I now have over 120,000 miles on this car and it is still running strong, and believe me I put this car through its paces daily, and it has never let me down. -- also the factory sunroof is a cool bonus

Weakness:

gas mileage-- the way i drive involves a heavy right footI get about 28mpg highway and 21mpg city

Buy one, Buy two -- If you get one you will never regret it- if the government knew how much fun these cars were they would have to ban them, or at least put a surgeon generals warning on them
