Weakness:
Too many mechanical problems to list Quite a few problems since the beginning. Transmission blew at 45,000 miles, thank goodness I bought the extended warranty. Wipers go on at any given time, dealer charged me $50 for a new multi switch. Front end rattles, squeaks, brought it in today and they claim nothing is wrong. Brakes have squealed since the day they were replaced, again dealer claims nothing is wrong. ALso head gasket blew at about 30,000 miles. I will never buy another Chysler, van is a piece of junk! Strength:
It does have a nice ride. Lots of room for adults, especially with the quad seating. Handles ok. 4 doors are nice.
Weakness:
The transmission doesn't feel solid. The brakes feel like a sponge when applying them. The headlights don't have good lighting. Right away a gasket to do with the transmission started leaking. It was fixed under warranty. Brakes and shocks went after 1,000 miles. not under warranty. Then the transmission started shifting down hard at 5mph. Was a sensor in the transmission. Problem was related to the prior leak. Fixed once again. I stick with driving my Grand Am as much as possible. The van makes a great driveway ornament....NOT. |

Plymouth Voyager (ralley)
Strength:
Style, comfort, and great power for a minivan.
Weakness:
Belt Tensioner, Automatic transmission, fuel tank, rattles and noises comming from ???? This is a great van and have owned it now for 5 years, I have the Voyager 3.3L Rally and I guess I must be lucky (thus far) I like the style, and it is roomy inside. I have had a few problems with it, but being a mechanic, I have been able to tackle most of them. I have had to replace the automatic belt tensioner, which froze on me. I did drive with it that way for over a year and no problems, until I decided it was time to change the belt. I have a noise coming from the undercarriage, that I have not been able to find. The van is 7 years old and still has the original Mopar battery from the factory. I had to replace the heater motor resistor (controls the fan speed settings.) This only cost me $18. This is common on a lot of vehicles. The O-ring that seals the A/C low pressure side hose that comes off of the compressor had to be replaced. The A/C stopped working, and did a check on it and found it was low on R-134. This automatically made me suspect a leak. Took it to the Dealer, who recharged it, and said that he ran a dye test, and found no refrigerant leaking. I looked at it 2 days later, and could actually see it coming out on top of the compressor. (Incompetent mechanic) The only problem that concerns me now, is that there is a mystery transmission leak on top of the case, and I have no idea where it is coming from. It is a small leak, so I am not too concerned with it. On a side note. I am in the military, and live in Germany, and I regularly drive this van at 118MPH (above this the computer shuts off the spark, because the factory did not install a higher rated tire for speeds above that. It certainly could go faster, as it is only turning at 3300rpm''s)I have driven it like this for 2 years now, and have never had a major problem. Usually I can cruise it at over 100mph, for an entire trip...which sometimes is 600miles. On a final note, there was a problem with fuel leaking from the gas tank, when it is filled up to the top of the filler neck. This is a safety recall which I took in and had fixed. But it is still leaking so I guess I will have to take it back again. Similar Products Used: 89 Plymouth Sundance |

Strength:
Roomy, upholstery''s held-up nicely, smooth ride. Radio/cassette has been quality, and problem-free....
Weakness:
Everything under the hood. A mechnical nightmare from Day One! (for certain cars, even every-3,000-miles oil changes and TLC driving is of no avail!)Our van has the 3.3 liter engine. Big things the warranty DID cover for us : parking brake release cable pulled out 12 inches during 1st week we owned car; paint peeled off left rear side at 3 months(turns out they never undercoated it!); valve job at only 19K miles; A/C and heater control unit failed at 30K miles. Have taken van in 4 occasions for bad rattle/wobbly left sliding door, plus half a dozen dealer recalls for various problems. Things WE PAID (not covered under warranty): blew head gasket and oil pan gasket at 68K ($700); ignition coil spontaneously "fried"--taking with it the entire PCM computer and emergency fuel shut-off relay with it--at 75K miles ($2100); replacement ignition coil failed just 1 month later ($250); transmission seal replaced at 78K ($610); dealer totally unable to fix bad rattle in center bench seat mechanism. Rear vent windows very stiff from day one, almost inoperative. Very weak headlights. Now on 4th pair of front shocks (front end again dipping low after only 8 mos. on present shocks.) Front wipers that come on without warning. Other minor annoyances far too numerous to list. We''ve been stupid to keep it this long--finally decided to unload it since I suspect the trans. is about to croak soon. Will never touch another Chrysler product... Strengths?! What strengths?!? It rolls down hill when I want to go up! I don''t see any "strengh!" For all i know Plymouth had a budget cut in 85 so that all theire 86''s have two engines and gerbils underneath the hood!
Weakness:
Just look at it! It''s not too hard to figre out! The van is a good van! It can go anywhere in you imagination. just Dream of an inhabited island where you would like to leave your pathetic excuse for a car, and POOF...it''s still in your driveway, just where you left it: keys in the ignition, car running, radio playing, windows down, and a $100 attached to a sign that says "Please Take ME." Well, the money is gone and my cool "Fast and the Furious" keychain is with it, but the van is still here!! Coplaints: (since it''s not worth the money, i do my own repairs hoping i might break something and finally send this car back where it came from) Oil Leaks- two days and $150 replacing parts. Power steering had a hole in the hose- 6 days, $20 , and a lost girlfriend. The Radio just quit- $15 on fuses, $25 on wiring harness and wires, - $250 on new Radio Front Bumper FELL OFF!!- $30 @ junkyard, 10 days under car, and 2 hours in hospital after in fell again- ON ME! But i must Conclude that i am thankful that it runs, even though it knows i hate her and have been lookin at my neighbors BroncII , even un der neath it. OOOH!! Roomy, Drives smooth, great gas mileage, nice looking, everyone can''t believe that I''ve had it five and half years already! Nice infinity speakers. It jams for a mama car!
Weakness:
Wipers have gone on and off about 5 times in five and half years. Wish there was reading lights in very back seat. I think the struts are going because they are starting to squeek when I go over bumps. A really reliable van. Loved it since we got it brand new. No big problems. Little ones. Have changed oil every three to four thousand miles and did any upkeep it might need. I have three kids and have went on many vacations in it. On 78,000 miles and still going. If I don''t get an SUV (YUKON, TAHOE, SUBURBAN) I will definetely get another Chrysler or Dodge Van.
