Strength:

Good Pickup, Sporty feel from a van. Good Gas Mileage, Great Price

Weakness:

Transmission failed at 53,750 miles
Valves failed at 59,210
Engine seals shot at 75,000
Dodge Dealer Sucks!
Paint Sucks! In garage all five years and paint looks terrible
Although, they did provide a rental car for the transmission and valves

I would recommend this van to anyone!
Just make sure to have the transmission pan checked for parts of the transmission falling apart by taking it to a mechanic. Make sure the lifters don't make noise! Other than that, van is a great value and is rather reliable!

Strength:

Repeatability...I always know what's wrong...LOL

Oh ya and very low PRiCe to marKeting "PRICK" budget.

Weakness:

Mine is an 89 Caravan 3.0L, 4-speed automatic. I had thought after all this time Chrysler might ahve corrected some of the to numerous to mention problems I've had. However, I can see by what's written here this is not the case, (four transmissions, bad valve guide and seal design resulting in excessive oil burning/use, rattles, rear window wiper controller, never ending wheel bearing replacements, piston slap due to over active imaginations of power plant engineers and reduced hight pistons resulting in erroneous short block replacement and later complet replacment, poor design of rear lift gate hydraulic piston attachment points resulting in strustural failure and holes punched through body of car, leaky head gaskets, leaks around windshield, speedometer with nearly 20% error, exceptionally poor heating/cooling system due largely to an undersized radiator and condensor and or condensor fan motor as well as heater core) THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE LIST!!!!!

It just gets better and better...Chrysler seems to have a problem holding their dealerships responsible for poor service, even to the point where the zone office addmitted to me they could not force a dealership to service a car under warranty, that was my problem.

Last thing, the service manager at Ganley Dodge in Cleveland Ohio (this was nearly ten years ago but why should things be different now, their car's are not?) was one of the most inept people I've ever met.

I did finally sue Chrysler using Ohio's lemon law and got back nearly half the purchase price as well as my legal expenses. Kept the car (was probably a poor desicion in light of all the problems I've had since. It had a 70,000 mile warranty and at the time I thought what else could go wrong?..LOL.

CHEAP...Buy low and sell soon (before the warranty goes away) VERY HIGH MAINTENANCE

AND WE THE AMERICAN PUBLIC BAILED THEM OUT????

What about me??

I want my money back...all of it!!!! LOL

If you are glutton for punishment and will never admitt to a mistake..

Now, are'nt they owned by the Germans???

Weakness:

TRANSMISSION is terrible, wiper comes on for no reason, breaks repeatedly needs to be replaced along with the tires. Always needs a wheel alignment. A.C and heating system works poorly. Power windows failed the first year brought. Transmission failed after 47,000 miles (makes no sense). Dealer admits to transmision problems, but does not want to take responsibility in fixing it. Built in child seatbelts constantly gets jamed. Headaches headaches!!!!!!!!!

I would not recommend this van to anyone. It is the worst I ever driven. Stay away from chrysler. They knowingly know there are faults but refuse to correct them. It's scam of a company!!!!!!!

Strength:

Great family van. Lots of space for 4 children and their stuff. Easy to drive. No major problems. It does the job! Spacious and convenient built in child seats. Easy access to third row seats for kids and plenty of space for luggage and strollers in back.

Weakness:

Noisy. Few minor repairs that were covered by warranty (all recalls). The windshield wipers have a mind of their own. The headlights could be better.

I would buy another one, but considering a Chrysler Town & Country.

Strength:

Comfortable, roomy and overall good looking for a mini van.

Weakness:

All but the above.
The one thing that bothers me the most is the headlights suck. You could see better with a flash light out the window.

I purchased it at 75,000 miles so I’m not sure of the problems before me but I’ve spent a lot of money since then. I got the extended warranty witch was a break-even deal. But my biggest gripe is just the overall integrity of the vehicle. It is in the shop today because the heater fan only works on two settings and the low setting sounds like a dieing animal. And since it’s in there I’m having my A/C fixed $800.00 later. Not including the fan problem. The back vent only works when it wants to. The wipers turn on as if to say Hi when ever they feel like it. I think Chrysler should put some money into more then just a design team.
Buy Anything but one of these

Strength:

Comfortable front seats. Nice sounding stereo. Great for family travel.

Weakness:

Oh My God ... where to start?
The power locks, interior lights, and "Door Adjar" light, freaks out while driving. We have to stop the van and slam all the doors closed to stop it. The van is noisy and rocky. The interior is "plasticy." (All hail American Engineering). Every thing rattles and creaks and squeaks like some kid's broken toy. I HATE THIS VAN. My wife wanted it and likes it - except the fact that it's possessed or something. The wipers won't shut off sometimes. And often when they do , it's in the middle of a cycle. Seat belt feel cheap and worry me.

I would NOT recommend ANY American car! My last two previous cars were Dodge/Chrysler and they were horrible (cheaply made and broken easily). Go for the Honda or Toyota van. I wanted the Honda but they cost you an arm and a leg - plus a few other body parts. But it looked and felt sturdy, nice, and QUIET! I pray every day that God will forgive me for this purchase. Please Detroit, quality DOES matter. You lost another customer - ME!

nothing right now. nothing seems to be working well

Weakness:

brakes replaced twice with roters, transmission at 70,000 miles now am being told head gasket is going on a car that is only a little over 3 years old. Service people tell us this seems to be a problem but not willing to do anything about it.

i would not ever buy a minivan from these people if this was the only car left. Still making payments and still paying large repair bills. not worth it. Getting ready to trade this junk in.

Strength:

quiet, rides nice, passenger and cargo room, looks good for a minivan, decent power with 3.3,seats are comfy and large

Weakness:

not enough cargo room behind rear seat, sliding doors are hard to close sometimes, repair record scares me

I have had this van for three years with no problems and it seems like I am the only one. Once or twice when the trans was put in drive the car did not go? I put it in Park and back in Drive and the problem was solved. I made sure to have the trans. serviced at 35000 miles. These are nice vans for the price and you can have it loaded or stripped. I would recommend getting the Grand Van and quad seats for the most versatility. It is also one of the safest cars on the road. New version for 2001 does not look any better and where is the hideaway rear seat like the Odeyssey? C'mon Chrysler.

Strength:

Very comfortable interior and ride, and the interior has held up well over the years. Good acceleration, awesome (Infinity) stereo, powerfull heater / ac.

Weakness:

Mechanical problems in virtually every system on the car

If you buy one of these, make sure you buy the extended warranty. Though it cost almost $900 from Chrysler when the car was new, it has paid off many times over. Every mechanical system on this car has had problems (the body and interior have been quite good though). Its had the usual transmission problems (its on its 4th), the aluminum rocker towers on the engine heads fatigue and break off, the front suspension had to be completely rebuilt at about 70,000 miles (and is going again), the A/C has been rebuilt (2x), steering pump and rack (2x), starter, fuel pump, ignition, and now the clear coat is peeling off the paint (the car has always been garaged). Its just over 100,000 miles now, so we're going to trade it for something the Chrysler doesn't make. Hopefully Daimler will help them build a more reliable car (on the other hand, you may start to see a lot Mercedes broken down on the roadside).

Dual sliding doors and built in child safety seats very convienent. Nice interior layout and features.

Weakness:

TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS! The transmission went at 58000 miles - cost $1800. I have seven friends with Chrysler mini-vans. I am the fourth to replace the transmission - all with less than 70,000 miles.

Chrysler has a design flaw in its automatic transmissions. They refuse to acknowledge the problem or correct it. I recommend avoiding Chrysler mini-vans like the plague.
