Strength:
Performance, build quality, fuel economy, and driving dynamics are better than any other minivan, including the Honda Odessey. Also the least expensive.
Weakness:
The gear shift lever is about 2" longer than it should be. I am a retired automotive engineer and have driven hundreds of new vehicles. This is one of the best vehicles on the market. It has a 4-cam 200 HP engine and a 5-speed automatic. The specs shown in this site are not correct for the new model. Strength:
4WD, roomy interior, decent acceleration, smooth running and shifting, great in the snow and mud.
Weakness:
slightly top heavy, a little underpowered 4WD All Sport is an outstanding vehicle. Very reliable, great in the snow, holds seven people. Have 100,000 on it and have owned for 5 years. Still a worthy family vehicle and going strong. Similar Products Used: Nissan Pathfinder |

Strength:
Like the smaller size. The sliding middle seats; the folding rear seat.
Weakness:
Base model is bare bones. Local Mazda Dealer is a pain. About bad sulphur smell, I had the same problem with my 1993 Honda Civic Si. After a lot of trial and error, I found out that it was the brand of gas I was using. If I used a tank of Esso gas, the sulphur smell was horrifying. If I switched to Petro Canada, Sunoco or Shell, the smell disappeared after a few tanks of gas. A study later came out in the news papers indicating that Esso had high concentrations of polluting chemicals and caused the sulphur smell. Maybe the cure to your smelly exhaust may be as easy as switching to a cleaner gas for a few tanks. Hopefully, this helps. Similar Products Used: Ford Winstar, Chev Astro |

Strength:
gas milage improved when the engine was blown and wasn't running. It has tremendous comedic value. It is a great aerobic workout when your blood pressure goes thru the roof. Owning this car has helped me to lose weight, in my wallet.
Weakness:
If you own one of these make sure you have a spare car. You'll need it. I hate this car. It's a piece of trash. I bought it new and I've had nothing but problems from 30,000 miles. The dealership jerked me around for the life of the warranty. And after 102,000 miles I had to replace the engine, at 108,000 the transmission. Even the dealership now recognizes that mazda's arent worth buying. Similar Products Used: 1990 Ply. Grand Voyager: loved it. 2001 Suzki Grand Vitara: loved it. |

Rear folding seat, car like drive, good turning radius.
Weakness:
Bad gas milliage, underpowered engine, dealer service, head office response, A/C and Heating is weak, I can go on forever and ever. In short DON'T BUY A MAZDA (FORD) This van sucks! I bought it brand new and have nothing but headaches. I've been to the dealer for warrenty service more then I have for oil changes. The brakes are a constant problem making irratating noises, gas milliage is terrible, A/C smells really bad when you turn it on and dealer service sucks. I paid $500 for rust proofing to find out a year later from another dealer that there is no rust proofing on the van. The dealer I bought it from claims they did do it but I just can't see it. Mazda head office says they have nothing to do with rust proofing. There's never a courtesy car available (even though I got the extended warrenty) This Mazda is a Ford in disguise. With is lousy 2.5L V6 stolen from the Contour. WANT A REAL VAN, BUY A HONDA ODDESSEY OR A TOYOTA SIENNA. Similar Products Used: Chevy Venture |

Third row fold-away seat. Raido control on the steering wheel.
Weakness:
Occasionally bad smell(fortuately it's outside of the car, hope it's gone when the summer comes) Bad mileage(almost 17.5l/100k - my mileages are purely RUSH HOURS') No build-in feature to avoid locking the key in the car(My Camry won't let me lock the car with the key in the hole) Got a good deal at last yearend on this 2002 modle. Overall this is a good minivan for its price. I like the look, handling. Similar Products Used: First Minivan |

Strength:
The power of those 200 horses is unbelievable. We regularily drive very high, very steep mountain highways and the way our MPV can climb is hilarious. I just set the cruise, get in the fast lane, and watch everyone else fall behind us. The overall workmanship sets this vehicle apart from everything else out there as far as we're concerned. It is very solid, and very well constructed. The kids love the side-roll-down windows, and the fold-away seat is ingenious. (I have to laugh when I watch my friend try to remove the seats from his Windstar) However, the one thing that sold me was the fact that it feels like I'm driving a car. It handles that well! (You just don't feel like there is much weight behind you) Also, the alloy wheels look very cool - well worth it. Last of all, the stereo controls on the steering wheel are an excellent idea- I use these every day.
Weakness:
It would be nice if the roof rack were standard. Also, I haven't checked mileage lately, but I don't believe we're getting as good mileage as I was hoping. (It seems to be more thirsty than advertised, but then again, I'm moving up from a Honda Civic so I'm used to going forever on a single tank - maybe I just need to adjust) After much debate over the benefits and value of the Odyssey, Sienna, and MPV, we finally decided on Mazda. We have not been disappointed - in fact we are thrilled. This truly is an amazing vehicle. We have been more than happy with the power, space, handling, special feature functionality, and overall look. It is by far the best value for your money. Listen up for those who are concerned about a smell: you need to look at this link: www.swri.edu/10light/catalyst.htm The smell is hydrogen sulfide - and is a by-product of an overly efficient catalytic converter. We initially smelled a very mild odour in the first two weeks, but the odour disappeared after 1 month. Also, and this is important, the type of gasoline you use can greatly reduce the odour during the first month. We use only Chevron gas, and have not smelled a thing for 7 months. I researched the problem for probably 30 hours and came across countless documents on the internet pertaining to the problem in many makes of car (ie- Toyota, Cadillac, Acura, Infiniti to name a few) (Don't believe me? search google for "sulfur smell new car" and you will see) In any case, once you feel how this machine handles, you will be sold. If anyone is concerned about the fact that Mazda is owned by Ford - don't be. I too was initially discouraged by this, but discovered that all parts are pure Japanese - everything that is except for the engine block. And at least for the 2002 model, all construction takes place in Japan. (So you are guaranteed to not see an ignition switch fire like so many poorly built Fords!) Similar Products Used: None. |

Very attractive exterior Roomy, and we love the sliding second row seat We also like the second row seat windows that roll down.
Weakness:
Smell, but other than that GREAT!!!!! I was one that never that I would purchase a minivan, and it was very hard to get used to it after driving the Protege (which I really loved) but I shopped for a few months and being the type of person I am exterior looks of a vehicle are very important when I was looking for a van. i do have to say I found a very nice looking van and then did my research of the ins and outs and found it to be a very good choice. Although I am still having trouble getting used to driving a van I LOVE IT. Oh and about that smell that everyone has been talking about, I have that problem with mine and really didnt think anything of it until I saw so many other people w/ the same problem. And yes it is a very bad smell, but I am still very happy w/ the purchase and would recommend the Mazda MPV to anyone. Similar Products Used: None |

Unfortunately, there's not enough room for me to write in this section....but I'm sure you can figure out my thoughts. I can't stand this van! It has been my worst purchase ever. The customer service sucks and the dealership I purchased my vehicle at has only has 1 loaner car (only for customers who have repairs for 48hr. or more) What kinda crap is that? I've purchased 5 tires in the last 2 years. My CD player plays when it wants to and the heating system burns my right foot on the drivers side. Whatever you do....don't by this minivan. You're better off walking to your destinations. |
