Strength:

Very comfortable seating, hauls a lot, lots of storage, drives smooth, powerful engine!

Weakness:

Not great on gas, but better than other vans. Wish the rear hatch opened higher, worry about hitting my head on it.

I love this van! I love sitting at a light and some young guy will pull up and act light he is going to speed up and then cut me off! I have nno problem with this van! I press the gas and leave everyone behind. It is so powerful! I like the shifter on the console. I love that my kids can roll down the windows on the slider doors. I like that the rear seats fold down into the floor. The seating is very comfortable. Don't feel all crammed in with 2 adults and 4 kids.

Many features for the price. Excellent Safety Rating.

Weakness:

It has the WORST CITY MILEAGE I've ever gotten.

I purchased a KIA Sedona EX in early September 2006. I am pleased with most features and the ride. It is really a good value in those terms. But, I am appalled at the city mileage. I get a MEAGER 7 MPG CITY. That's no misprint. A KIA representative went for a fuel consumption test ride with me and confirmed the mileage. He did not have any criticisms about my driving habits that could cause the poor mileage and the driving conditions were all favorable. Since then, KIA has washed its hands of the matter and has told me that gas mileage is not guaranteed and that they will not do anything for me to correct the problem.

list of problems:at 30,000 miles
two sets of front rotors, rear rotors turned (vibration when you braked), radio did not work, lifters in engine replaced, dvd player replaced, paint pealing off driver door, tires from dealer out of round (replaced by dealer), plastic on drivers seat broke, emissions light goes on and off whenever it feels like it, van pulled to right after 1st repair of the vibration in front end, mechanic left wrench in engine after lifters repaired and had to take it back again for them to get it out of the engine, paint peeling off dorr handle trim (dealer will not repair)still under waranty, did i mention the terrible gas milage (ciyt and highway)? did i also mention that every repair took at least 2 and sometimes 4 trips to fix. the dealership is 30 MINUTE DRIVE one way to be worked on.

initially liked the van, but problems began within 50 miles of driving from the dealership. the dealership is incapable of fixing any problem on the first trip. DO NOT BUY A KIA.

Strength:

Looks nice. Plenty of small storage areas. Nice amenities.

Weakness:

Not reliable. Not well built. Too little hauling space behind rear seats.

Here are the problems I had with my 2002 Kia Sedona EX (VIN: KNDUP131326095824):

Gas Gauge – After filling up with gas, the gauge immediately moved to half but took about five minutes to move from half to full. It also didn’t read accurately. While driving, it slowly dropped (as would be expected). The problem here was, it showed only 1/2 a tank of fuel when it's really 3/4 full.

Trip Computer / Overhead Console – The digital display for the various overhead console functions was wrong. For instance, it showed time as 3:69 p.m. and the temp readings were preceded by a small L.

Sliding Doors – On the left sliding doors, the plastic bushing busted off the center support brackets causing the door to bind.

Windshield Wipers – Completely failed when the connecting bushings fell apart. Bushings are not a "serviceable" so the whole mechanism required replacement.

Interior Door Handles –The handle actuates a cable attached to the latch, allowing the door to open when the handle is pulled. The cable seemed to have too much slack in it, making it difficult to open the door from the inside. The interior door handle on the left (in my case, driver's) side simply broke off because it is non-reinforced plastic.

Oil Usage – In just under 3,000 miles, it leaked and/or burned about 3/4 of a quart. There's no evident leak, so I'm guessing that it's the latter.

Air Conditioner – Leaked refrigerant slowly and then ceased to function.

Engine – Jerked (or stalled) hard, threw on CHECK ENGINE light but continued to run.

Paint – The paint beneath the rear window peeled. Clearcoat paint on piece above license plate cracked.

Airbag Light -- Airbag light was constantly lit.

Warning Lights – Warning lights for charging system and brake never light (bulbs test okay).

Charging System – This malfunctioned, requiring replacement of alternator.

Acceleration – Sometimes ran at idle speed even when trying to accelerate.

Glove Compartment Door – Failed to close entirely, allowing inside light to stay on.

Cruise Control – Periodically shut off automatically and could not be turned back on until the vehicle was stopped, shut off, and restarted.

Leather Cover – Peeled off of the shifter and had to be re-glued.

Sun Visors – Plastic broke causing mirror covers to fall out. They had to be replaced.

Gas Mileage

I would own another Kia, if I needed to buy another vehicle. The Sedona was a very nice choice for my family and I. Haven't had a problems as of yet and we drive a considerable amount yearly. The only thing I don't recommend is the dealership I bought it from.
