Strength:

Roomy, lots of leg room in front and back, air conditioner vents and controls in back as well as front, stow away back seats. 60,000 mile warranty , solid doors, well built. Supposedly priced lower than other vans like Honda and Toyota.

Weakness:

Dealer mark up.

Just bought a brand new Kia Sedona LX. We love the roomy van. We had a Mazda 5 and found it too small for three growing children. We also love the fact that the back has its own air conditioner controls. We felt we got a pretty good price but had to haggle a lot at the dealer. They wanted $29,000. we got it for $26,000. out the door.

Drive great, looks great, plenty of room

Weakness:

service and confused dealers

I actually love my van, have had no problems, except with service. Was told by Ragsdale that I needed to have my timing belt changed at 40,000 miles, called a mechanic to do it and was told that after contacting a Kia Supply store that I did not even have a timing belt that I have a timing chain and no maintance was required, so I called a few more dealerships and was given anywhere from 60,000 miles to 80,000 miles. Finally I called Kia directly and was told it should be stated in my owners manual I explained that it didn't even have timing belt in the index, so he looked and said that I had a timing chain and that there was no required maintenace but he wanted to check something else, came bach and said it needed to be done a 60,000 miles, but wanted to check something else, came back and said no he was right the first time it didn't need any maintenace. So I called Ragsdale and gave them a piece of my mind, they said that they had done plenty timing belt replacements and they would have the manager call me. The manager returned my call with in a few minutes asked what type of vehicle I drove and explained that the 2006 Sedona was the year they changed it and that I did have a timing chain and no maintance was needed for that. When I asked him why they had told me I need to have that done, he explained that they didn't have the model I drove down for some reason and that was what was causung the confusion. I know when I called other dealerships I told them the year, they even repeated it back to me and I was still told that it had to be done at 60,000. I am just wondering if anybody with a 2006 Sedona has had their timing belt changed at 40,000 or 60,000 miles and if you had you may want to contact Kia derectly and find out what they say and then you probably would like to contact your lawyer. I have even gone on line to a Kia parts place and they have no timing belt for a 2006 Kia sedona, I have also called other part suppliers and they have no listing of a timing belt for a 2006 Kia Sedona. My van is wonderful at 40,500 mile in a year and a half I have had no problems, knock on wood, but as far as Kia dealers go be very warey and get a second opinion because I have a feeling that if I had brought it in to have my timing belt changed they would have done it and charged me the $400, and not blinked an eye.

THEY BIG MOUTHS!!!!!!!!!

EVERYTHING FROM THE SELL TO THE SERVICE!

Purchased off of Truck and had to take it back for detail. From the first day, the right passenger window had a very bad wind noise. At 12,000 miles while driving down the road all lights shut down. Had to go in the shop. I took the van in 4 time for the window noise and they never heard it but twice they wrote it up for the WRONG window. The forth time it was OUT OF warranty and they charged me 44.50 and now it is NOT any better. Front head light burned out. Not covered, I even purchered the 100,000 mile warranty. After the promise they would call when they could get me in (7 weeks later) 1 week in the shop. I have something major wrong! Pulling out of a parking spot I could not turn my wheel, my brakes did not work and my ESC light was on. When I took it in I told them I heard a clicking noise in the steering wheel and was concerned about my air bag not working. It turned out to be my CLOCKSPRING! This could cause your air bag, horn, and cruse conrol NOT to work.
This time they said they might be able to get me in in about 4 days. I know how that will be, 7 weeks from now. I have heard other bad stories about Central Kia of Plano, Texas. I would NOT advice anyone to purchase from them. THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIMD WHAT THEY SELL!!!!!!!

Strength:

Well designed. Lots of standard equipment, even on the base model. Bought it partially because of the warranty. I tend to keep my vehicles a long time( my other Ford Van is 13 years old ).

Weakness:

Very minor complaints: driver's seat could have a little more rear travel. I keep hitting the Emergency Flasher button while reaching over to adjust the heaters buttons.

I have used this van for one year and have 12k miles on it now. To date, I could not be more pleased. It is roomy, comfortable and gets reasonable mileage for a heavy, roomy vehicle - 15 city, 24 highway. I have not had a single repair issue. Have not even been back to the dealer!

Performance, comfort, versatility. Lots of creature comforts in cabin, great A/C system, and instrument and accessory lighting.Even has a pretty decent sound system!

Weakness:

Not as good as advertised estimated M.P.G.Am averaging 16 to 17 MPG. around town, and have gotten no better than 22 MPG. on trips of 300 miles or more.

Have owned 2002 Toyota Sienna, 2004 Honda Odysey, and neither were as satisfying as this Kia Sedona. Had ongoing problems with both the Toyota and Honda in first year of ownership. Have had this Kia for almost a year and a half, and absolutely flawless.Rides like a luxury car, very good handling, and good performance for a 4600+ lb. vehicle. Tight suspension, no squeaks or rattles, and comfortable, versatile seating.

Strength:

The only strength is the price. Possibly the 2006 and newer Sedonas are an improved product but I am so bummed out on KIA now I'll never find out.

Weakness:

Brakes, rotors, engine mounts, trim pieces, mileage.

I have a laundry list of problems with our Sedona since we bought it three years ago.

1. All of the engine mounts have been replaced under warranty, twice.
2. Air conditioning proportioning valve replaced under warranty. The failing valve caused a weird "whoop whoop" noise in the back.
3. Seat trim on front seats replaced, twice under warranty.
4. Struts replaced unde warranty.
5. Front brake pads and rotors need replacing every 30,000 mi. No warranty and the dealer techs diagnosed bad pads and rotors as the front tires needing to be balanced, twice.
6. Front wheel bearings replaced at my expense.
7. Replaced the timing belt and water pump along with plugs as part of 60,000 mi. service only to find the timing belt belt tensioner had failed, it had lost its fluid. FYI, KIA considers the tensioner to be a "wear" part and is not warrantied.
8. CD player failed at about 50,000 mi. Dealer said that the 60,000 mi warranty did not apply to the radio. Yet another warranty "asterisk".
9. Front tires replaced at 30,000 mi due to alignment issues at my expense. Also during the first 10 months or so we had frequent flat repairs on the OEM tires. Never did find any foreign objects, just copious leaks.
10. Although it is not KIA's fault I have several wiring and tubing failures due to rodent activity. Not sure why they have a taste for the Sedona.

As a side note, I filled out a JD Powers survey on this car. There were so may problems that engineers from South Korea paid me a visit to discuss and videotape me and the car. My car was one of ten selected in the US. Apparently the early Sedonas had plenty of issues that KIA wanted to see and address personally.

Strength:

Un able to find any due to the pile of repair slips in front of me.

Weakness:

Lacking reliablilty and has poor fuel mileage.

This Kia Sedona was bought in 11/2005 we have faithfully taken it in for every required maintenance schedule and have the oil changed every 2500 miles. We only have used Desert Kia to do the repairs. Any parts changed have always been Kia products. With in the first year our Kia began to start with a multitude of problems that follows. It has had two complete transmission replacments, multiple brake and A/C problems that have required many trips and return trips to Desert Kia dealership. It all started when noises were heard from the transmission, took the van in and new transmission was installed taking them four days. It still didn't feel or sound correct and within one month it went out again leaving it to be towed We now now that it was due to improper installation. This time Desert Kia had the van for over a week. Shortly after that noise from the brakes, new brakes installed and brakes are continuely replaced including rotor each trip to Kia they have the van for a day or two. On to the A/C, the A/C Compressor locked up, threw the belt off and left the van to be towed they had the van for two days. When we got the van back A/C didn't cool correctly, returned to Desert Kia and dealership said it needed to have more freon one day. A/C still would not cool while in idle. Returned again to Dealership two more times each took a day. Again leaving me stranted. The tentioner pulley came apart, towed to Kia again and replaced pulley (still not cooling correctly) two days in shop. This last trip to desert Kia to correct the A/C problem. I was told the A/C problem was due to a weak battery. Yeah right! (I'm a HVAC mechanic and know this not to be true, two days. Unable to work on my own van due to warranty) I feel that the Desert Kia A/C mechanic lacks the proper skills needed to properly diagnose the A/C problems. They continue to dance around and not give any straight answers about why the system will not cool correctly. As you can tell our van has spent many days at the Kia Dealership and we still continue to have the problems time for a FOR SALE SIGN! I find that Kia tries to pasify you by giving you a free oil change and car wash for the "inconvience" and then wants you to do their survey and wants all perfect "10" Not this time!

Constently having problems, and they don't honor the warrenty

My car brookdown on the freeway, the piston blew and wreck the heads. The dealership said I over heated the engine. Well I didn't, no lights came on and the needle didn't show overheating. The car had 88,000 miles onit. I have had the radiator split open, the window motot go out wheel bearings go out, nothing but trouble. The said the warrenty wouldn't cover the motor because it dosen't cover over heating.
