Strength:

price

Weakness:

reliability

The service engine soon light has been on so often that I am concerned the bulb may burn out. We enjoy travelling from Canada to the warm southern states and the van has broken down a few times. It has had numerous gaskets replaced and still leaks oil periodically over my concrete driveway. Today, I decided I can no longer trust the van and I will be selling it. There are very good deals on new Caravans although I think it would be a better idea to sped more money and buy quality of a Honda or Toyota. I would rather support an American/German firm like Chrysler but their product is not reliable.

dodge stinks

Strength:

Maybe the roominess

Weakness:

too many to list!

I'm afraid that there's not enough room here for the amount of complaints that I have! Why there are so many Caravans on the road I don't know. They must have a bottomless pit of money to spend. Anyway I'll start by saying this vehicle's transmission is horrible! I've had it rebuilt twice and it's still not right. No help from the dealership at all. Now two blown head gaskets later I'm thinking of trading it in for something Japanese! Never ever ever by a Caravan unless you've got all the money in the world and nerves of steal!!! JUNK!!!!

Strength:

Decent visibility, comfortable seating, good for hauling.

Weakness:

Lousy reliability, costly repairs, too much technology that inevitably goes bad. On a scale of 1 to 10, I rate these vans a minus 14. See you around Chrysler.

This is my 3rd Chrysler van: 1) 1988 Grand,2) 1992 Voyage (still have, 221000 miles) and this 1994. Bought used and spent $500 right away to find problem (check engine light on). Spent other money for subsequent problems. Currently, it starts ok, runs 10 miles and quits. Relays overheat and quit. Maddening! Last chance is put in dealer service to see if they can find the problem without blowing a fortune. There are too many variable in these monsters that can cause problems. Ultimately, I think Chrysler doesn't want the owner to do simple servicing...just return it to the dealer and pay $60 per hour. This is my last Chrysler product.

Strength:

Good for hauling around the family.

Weakness:

Poor service from Dodge. Not made for high mileage.

We purchased the van in 2001 with about 35,000 miles on it. It now has over 100,000 and it's starting to fall apart. The heater core had had to be replaced twice due to electrolysis in a pipe (my husband says they made it with aluminum next to steel causing the problem). We paid to have it replaced the first time. It went out again a month later and Dodge paid for it. Now, about 2 months later, it went out again and it currently disconnected, so I have no heater. I contacted Dodge and was told they would not pay for it again. According to the repair shop, it should be a recall.

Strength:

COmftorable Lots of storage space(for all you campers) Good cup holders

Weakness:

weak power electrical system is screwy Bad customer service When I drive around with loud music I feel like people are looking at me like I am borrowing my parents van and being rambonxious Like all vihicles when you drive them off the lot they depreciatte like crazy. And because the caravan's are a dime a dozen they can be difficult to sell for a erasonable price. If you don't plan on keeping it for long don't buy it.

My boyfriend and I were pursuaded to buy our caravan new because of the 0% financing option. Little did we now that soon after every other dealership offered a similar promotion. Overall, there was not a lot of problems that we had with it. My biggest problems had to do with the weak customer service and the inconvenience of taking it in to get serviced. Dodge requires the vehicle all day and can not give it's customers a rental car for the time. I don't know about everybody else but it is next to impossible to hand over my vehicle for the whole day.

Strength:

Great handling except wants to pull to the right allot, despite several allignments, tire rotations, etc.

Weakness:

Maintenance.

Nice to drive but plan on having allot of warranty work done. Had to replace power steering pump. Replaced a bushing in front stabilizer bar 2 times because bushing corrodes easily. Had to have computer reprogrammed to have AC work again. Recently, a compartment cover in back of vehicle broke off due to a cheap plastic "hinge" (if you could even call it a hinge). Rubber gasket in left rear door started to come out(Glue gave out.) Had a leak in the hydraulic line due to cheap hoses Dodge uses. Had to change brake pads at 13,000 miles! (Way too much braking occurs in the front end of this vehicle) Rear brakes looked almost brand new.

Yep right at 99,000 mile our transmission cracked in half. So we paid 2,000 to have a rebuilt one put in and it is still giving us problems. If Crysler has a problem with these transmissions, which we all know they do then why can't their engineers redesign the transmission. The design is so poor it will always have problems until they totally change it. I will never I repeat never buy another Dodge caravan. I'm moving to my reliable Honda Odessey.

Strength:

Great fuel economy, creature comforts, driveability.

Weakness:

A little short on horsepower but cheap add ons can improve performance substantially.

Overall, pleased with van. Bought van new in '99 and so far had a faulty battery and oil pressure sensor. I only use 100% synthetic oil in the van since new. Want more power? Put in a K&N filter and upgrade the plugs to platinum. Upgraded wires will also help. The transmission failure is caused by two factors. The first being that people have a tendancy to not completly have the vehicle stop before putting it into drive from reverse. The other being that many people do not perform the maintanence on the transmission when it says in the manual. ??? don't blame the tranny when you did not maintain it. Bottom line is that EVERY car on the road has issues (does Honda and Toyota have mechanics on salary at their dealerships?? Of course they do and they are not there to only do oil changes). Generally you will get what you put into a vehicle out of it but of course there are exceptions to this.
