Strength:

Good customer service Easy handling Smooth ride Roomy

Weakness:

Gas mileage is not as expected-- thought that it was 25-highway and 20-city... I actually get about 20-highway and 15-city-- which I am disappointed with.

I have been completly satisfied with the purchase of the vehicle. Only a minor repair done so far since we purchased it on 2-22-03. A coil was replaced. The only real gripe I have is that on the SXT package it states that you get one touch down on the power windows...the service department said I was mistaken. SO I have to bring them proof of it... so I went to the Dodge website and printed it off and will show them.

Strength:

Nice cup holders.

Weakness:

Clearly not designed to get beyond 100,000 miles without many and significant repairs. And repairs may not necessarily make the van reliable. Compares to my Dad's two Nissan Sentras, each of which had over 200,000 miles without similar issues.

Great for the family, but terrible on the wallet and terrible reliability. OK dealer service, terrible service from Daimler-Chrysler. We're the orginal owners, with 95,000 miles--my mistake was to keep the van past 50,000 miles. The front axle just snapped and took out the leaking transmission, which we had been advised was not likely to make it to 100K miles, anyway. Fortunately, my wife was simply speeding up from a stop light when it happened. We had to replace the A/C six months ago. The front end has been completely replaced, but the factory suspension problem is still not fixed--this included me spending $1000 to rebuild a front shock tower. The radio was replaced under warranty years ago but still had terrible AM static problems. Something in the fuel tank "slams" forward when the tank is full. Numerous rattles I gave up trying to fix under warranty years ago. Camshaft replaced under warranty, after which they told me I had a likely valve problem up and coming that would not be covered. I'll never buy another Daimler-Chrysler product. Not Benz, not Dodge, not Chrysler. Snapped axle? Come on!

Worse than my Ford Taurus, which held the previous low standard. My other cars have been Honda's, Toyotas, GM.

Comfort & spacious

Weakness:

Transmission

Tranmission needs to be replaced at 100,000 mi 1999 vehicle. If you don't think this is a common problem, call you're local mechanic and ask him how hard it is to locate another one. The factory is on back order for an "undetermined" period of time. Local shops won't rebuild cause they have so much trouble with them. Finally, Jasper came through with one. Will cost us app. $2500 in total. Love the van and wish I could figure out why there's no on-line customer support. Perhaps they don't want to hear from us? If transmissions are a recurrent problem to the point even a Chrysler factory rebuilt can't be obtained - why haven't they done something about it? I won't buy another one because of this despite the comfort and convienence the van offers.

Strength:

Smooth drive, good acceleration, confortable, average fuel economy.

Weakness:

Bumpers are not bumpers, only fibreglass extensions of the vehicle. What ever happen to the zero damage expectation on accidents less than 3 mph? Not on this vehicle.

Bought the vehicle new. Had a previous 1995 Voyageur for 7 years, also bought new. At the beginning of last summer, discover that the air conditioning was broke. To make a long story short, after 7 trips to the dealer, 12 days the van was in the shop, numerous calls to Chrysler only to experience their don't care additude) and having EVERY part of the A/S possible replaced, we FINALLY got cold air. Fortunally bought the extended warranty. We weren't as lucky with our last vas, as we paid over $1,400 on A/C repairs.

Strength:

Very large, good power, quiet, great radio.

Weakness:

bad transmission,

I bought this car used in 1998. It was in mint condition with only 24K on it. Now it has 68,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, the transmission failed. It was due to dodge not realinzing the flaws in the transmission. I wrote a letter to chysler and got a dear john lettyer back. They want everyone to think their quality has improved. If you buy a dodge, make sure you get the extended warranty or save your money for repairs. Harold Hauser

Strength:

Weakness:

brakes

This was our second Caravan; had a 1996 with the short body style. The 1998 was on it's third set of brakes when we turned it in with 39,000 miles. I complained to the dealer that there was a brake design flaw. Surely, I was not the only person experiencing this problem. (Note: my present vehicle has 35,000 miles and still has it's original brakes.) Of course, he agreed with us, but Chrysler didn't want to address the issue. I was very disappointed with this vehicle; tires are undersized for the vehicle; their should be four wheel disc brakes and instead there is front disc and rear drum. Take a look at the vehicle design and you can see that it pitches forward--placing a lot of weight on the front end. We drive a full-size Dodge conversion van now and it's a far better vehicle.

Nothing. Not sure about their 2003 models.

My Dodge 1999 caravan failed at 19,000 miles on it with transmission problems. I really took care of it. It was brand new when I bought it. As another person says the manufacturer & dealers MUST resposible. I need their ressponse ASAP. They claim that the 2003 models are strong & they give 7 years 72000 miles. Is that true? Please answer.

Strength:

Roomy.

Weakness:

I maintained the fluids continuously and did a transmission fluid change two week before it failed. (I used correct fluid type.) Very large repair bill.

I had a 1993 minivan with significant transmission problems, but they were always covered by Dodge Chrisler. I stayed with the product and bought a 1998 minivan that is now at 180,000km. I was assured that transmission problems fixed. Top maintenance. Transmission failed with $3780 repair bill, with no coverage. I am very disapointed in in D/C.
