Strength:

Attractive and inexpensive compared to competition.

Weakness:

Brakes (poor durability) Fuel Economy. Transmission durability. Vibrations at highway speeds.

Chrysler deserves a Class Action Suit or at minimum, a recall from the Federal Government. Our 1998 Plymouth Voyager lost its transmission in Ffeb 2003 with only 93,087 km. The car was lightly driven and never used to tow anything despite the fact it was equipped with a transmission cooler. From the time it was new, there has been a vibration at highway speeds that is very annoying and Chrysler could not or would not fix. Cost: $3352 with taxes and tow. The horrible part is the nature of the failure. I was out of town on business and my wife was driving downhill when the transmission seized and stalled the engine. No engine means no power steering and no power brakes. Luck was on her side. The light at the bottom of the hill was green (she coasted through) and managed to wrestle the car to a stop with the parking brake.

Strength:

roomy, great on gas.

Weakness:

seems like when something breaks it is big. I took great care of this van. oil chgs/tires/brakes everything else. even with changing the brakes and rotors regularly I had to fork out $600 for the power booster and to replece my brakes and rotors that were less than a week old. I dont think I will buy this car again. Not dependable. Other cars I owned had a lot more miles on it and way less troubles. And definetly didn't recieve the care that this one did.

If I was asked on Monday how I liked my Dodge Caravan, I would have told you it's been great. On Tuesday night after work and picking the kids up from daycare it just quit. No warning lights and no strange sounds. I just paid the thing off in Sept. of 2002 and this happens. I did nit experience any of the trans problems. Just something woth the ignition switch that was fixed under warranty. I also had break trouble that I thought was normal wear and tear. It was a turbo booster? rotors and breaks. $600, and we were back on the road. I was always told Dodge had a long engine life, I kinda doubt that. 97000 miles and it sits in the drive way and wont start. Had it looked at and nobody can tell me whats wrong. Someone mentioned the motor seized up. How is that possible? It's full of oil and other fluids. Just had it serviced. here is the prob. all was well while driving, then all lights on dashboard came on at the exact same time the engine quit. All the interior and exterior lights, radio and other stuff work. Except the engine. Turn the key nothing happens. If anyone out there has a clue to as what the heck is wrong please email me at gysel@localnet.com I would like to fix if if it is affordable. loved my van I am thankful it happened this week, we were supposed to leave for a 1500 mile drive 3 days later. Oh and we havent had a/c for quite sometime, to expensive to fix.

Strength:

Roomy, comfortable, good fuel milage (25 highway, 21 city). Tows a loaded 6x12 U-Haul with no problem.

Weakness:

Rear seats are a bear to take out and install as they weigh a ton! I take them out to haul large items.

I have been very satisfied with my '98 Dodge Caravan SE. It has a 3.0 liter V-6 with 124000 miles, 70,000 of those miles I am responsible for. I have had no problems with this car other than normal maintenance. Regular oil changes, transmission service, tires (purchased one set at 120,000 miles). Drives and handles well. This is my third MOPAR minivan and will not be my last. Highly reccomended.

Strength:

Front wheel drive is great for winter driving, always starts (although it seldoms runs well), doesn't leak....can't say anything else in its favor.

Weakness:

Poor engineering, construction, materials, dealerships, and corporate attitude.

Started falling apart (literally) on the day I leased it. Spent the entire second day in the dealer's garage. Spent another entire day the following week in the same place, for the same reason. Is now on its second head gasket, third full set of front brakes, and second set of tires - with less than 55,000 miles on it. Nearly all my used cars have given me better service!

I have been driving Chrysler products since 1974, and have owned eight of them; this one is the last! I parked it yesterday for the last time - the bank can have it back now and I'll just keep making

Strength:

1. I own the Grand Caravan, which is definitely worth to get over the standard Caravan because of the extra storage space in the trunk. 2. I like the look of the Grand Caravan, as much as other vans -- inside and out.

Weakness:

I was told by a mechanic that all Chrysler vans(who also make Dodge, Plymouth and Jeep vehicles) have problems with their brakes, tires and transmissions (which all went wrong with my vehicle in a very short time). 1. Brakes, brake pads and rotors have to be replaced usually every 25,000 miles (usually there is no noise indication to determine this, that's why the rotors may go as well if your brakes are not checked often enough -- which happened to me the first time). 2. Tires had to replaced under 38,000 miles. 3. Had to have a transmission solenoid replaced. If I didn't find this problem in time, my transmission would have had to be replaced.

This is my first van purchased and so far I am not 100% satisfied with my decision to purchase the Dodge Grand Caravan.

This is my first purchase on a van, so I really can't compare it to others on the market, but I'm sorry I didn't purchase the Toyota Sienna -- as planned.

At not even 90,000 k.m the differential pin in my transmission disintegrated, destroying the whole transmission. Cost to repair-$3000.00. I WOULD NOT recommend this vehicle.

Strength:

I don't deny that this vehicle has it's strengths. It's roomy, it rides nice, interior options are great.

Weakness:

Transmission & brake problems. This van will be traded before the transmission warranty is up. Never another Dodge for me.

The first Dodge I've ever owned and the last. I had to replace the transmission on this van at 71,000 miles to the tune of $2500. EVERYONE that I talk to that owns a Caravan has had to replace their transmissions at least once - I've heard of three times on the same vehicle. Dodge has had this transmission problem on these vans for years and they continue to sell this inferior product. Neither Dodge nor the dealer will back this problem - I didn't get any help from either.

GOOD LOOKING, RIDES AND HANDLES LIKE A DREAM. HAS BEEN VERY DEPENDABLE. MAINTAINED IN TOP CONDITION. ONLY PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION WAS WHEN INCORRECT FLUID WAS PUT IN BY A QUICK LUBE. RECENTLY REPLACED STARTER, EVP. COOLER, BRAKES X 2. HAS HIGH MILES. STILL RUNS LIKE A TOP. GREAT GAS MILAGE ON HWY. AND AROUND TOWN. LOOKS AND RUNS IN SHOW ROOM CONDITION

Weakness:

WOULD LIKE TO SEE BETTER AC FLOW TO ACCOMODATE THE PEOPLE IN REAR SEATS IN FL. SUMMER HEAT. DEALER REPAIR COSTLY.

BOUGHT NEW 1998 3.3L ENG. LOADED WITH OPTIONS. CURRENTLY HAS 103,000 MILES ALL BY ONE ORIGINAL OWNER. MAINTAINED IN TOP CONDITION.

Strength:

Very competitively priced.

Weakness:

Electric door switch defective, Transmision overhaul 60,400KM(400K over warranty). 8 months later a second transmission overhaul. Ignition rebuilt twice. Constant rattle under dash.Facory brakes went 20K, after market brakes 35K.

It has not been a good experience owning a Dodge. It's true , "you can pay too little"

Weakness:

Power steering hoses are bad. We have 2 taxies and they are Caravans and they have replaced the PS hoses 2-3 times on both vans, a guy bought a 02 GR Caravan with same problem

Very great looking van, nice load of options, nice ride, transmission as been revised and seem to be great now. I think it's thye best looking minivan on the market, and if you dont agree with me, park a Chevy Venture or Ford Windstar beside a Caravan, and you'll agree with me.
