Strength:

A lot of room/ comfortable

Weakness:

mechanical problems- My parents owned a 1984 dodge caravan and this one does not seem much better ( the windows and transmission caused trouble then as well)

Basically a good car. Transmission does not shift well/ sometimes can not find gear. Had to replace the brakes at apprx. 25000 miles. Both power windows quit woeking

Strength:

Excellent driving position and comfort. Good value for the dollar. Engine performance is OK. Handling is good.

Weakness:

Reliability!!!! I keep wondering what else will go wrong as the van ages. The transmission could use another gear to make shifts smoother.

I drove the 2005 Toyota and Honda before deciding on the Chrysler. The two deciding factors were price and driving position comfort. The Toyota and Honda were selling at sticker if the desired model could be found. I have 15,000 miles on the van to date. Unfortunately it has been in the shop several times. The dash had san imperfection which required a new one. The transmission made a noise which took repeated trips before they finally replaced the transmission. The battery was bad, which wouldn't show on their equipment and only with a discussion with the manager did we finally determine the problem. The passenger power mirror quit working and had to be replaced. The van has not been in the shop for a couple of months, but now has a rattling noise somewhere, which I have yet to locate. The wheels are aluminum with some kind of shiny plastic averlay. They show very significant black pitting.

Strength:

Nice ride, excellent handling (for a large 4000+ pound rig), very comfortable and terrific utility and lots of luxury. Good handling, acceleration and braking around town and very comfortable cruiser on the Interstate, handling high speed travel with ease. I feel safe riding as high as most SUV's.

Weakness:

It's a little noisy...basically just chassis noise. Easily fixed by turning up the volume on your favorite CD. Left a little to be desired in the reliability department with failures as folows: 42K mi - Water Pump, Windshield wiper multi-function switch. 67K mi - Steering rack/links, Interior/dash light dimmer switch, Steering wheel clock spring. 73K mi - AC Compressor. 78K mi - Ignition coil pack. 121K mi - Right window motor. 50K & 100K mi - Replaced brakes, resurfaced rotors; normal wear and replacement. I had called Chrysler Hq in late 2001 to complain about, what I thought were, premature failures of the water pump, windshield wiper multi-function switch, steering rack, interior/dash light dimmer switch, steering wheel clock spring, AC compressor and ignition coil pack. Chrysler agreed to fully reimburse me for all failures/repairs that occurred prior to 70K miles. I sent them the original bills and they sent me a check. This is another reason I'll be going with a Chrysler T&C as my next vehicle ... that stood behind their product.

Bought used in 6/1997 w/16K mi. Now, 1/2006, have 125K mi. Great vehicle for around town use in style and comfort with lost of space to stow everything. We travel and simply pull out the rear (3rd) seat and leave it in the garage at home. We have tons of room for luggage, cooler, all our golf, beach and camera gear. We love to travel in comfort and style and be able to bring everything we want with us. I've also used the T&C as a cargo van by pulling all the rear seats, throwing a tarp on the floor and loading it full. Very handy for lugging stuff for our church feast and charity fund raisers. Over the years I've gotten tremendous use out of my '96 T&C and enjoyed every minute of it. Absolutely the best vehicle (car or van) that I've ever owned. My next set of wheels will just be a newer Chrysler Town & Country.

Strength:

Good gas mileage 23 MPG, comfortable ride, safety.

Weakness:

Too many machinical problems and never covered under warrenty always a fight to have repairs completed.

After owning 5 Chrysler vans knowing the transmission problems we elected to purchase a town & country because we love the ride, space and gas mileage. However we purchased this 2004 in Dec of 2003 because a 2002 Chrysler van had a heating problem at 62,000 miles 2,000 over the warranty and no on would work with us. This new 2004 van now with 52,000 has had 2 sets of brakes, now a month ago relays for heat and now the Indicator light came on and the Chrysler dealer in Mt. Airy, Md is saying that the Iact motor needs to be replaces (not bad just not working properly) so not covered under warranty, due to this not working correctly they say the wires and spark plugs also need to be replaced along with the fuel filter. Also sway bars (one is broke they say) and links which they say are a problem in lots of the vans but in the 5 I've owned I've never had to replace sway bars and links (don’t' even know what links are) All this Calculates to $1,340. Seems like a lot to put into a vehicle that only has 52,000 and with the extended warranty nothing is covered. I would never buy another extended warranty it was a waste of our dollars and I'd at this point would have to be given another Chrysler if I'll ever own one after this one.

Strength:

Smooth ride

Weakness:

Not reliable. We will be buying a new vehicle when this one comes back from the shop. Tires are less than desirable.

We bought this vehicle new in 2001. I feel like we were sold a lemon. In 4 years the problem indicator light has come on three times; each time ending up in the shop. We had two separate incidences of the ignition cutting out (it wouldn't start up or it would cut out while driving.) Most recently, transmission problems caused me to lose control of acceleration while driving. It is now in the shop yet again. Bear in mind this vehicle has about 45,000 miles on it. Good thing we bought an extended warranty.

Weakness:

Gas Mileage (only about 14MPG)

Despite the problems stated here, I have had no problems with mine. I have driven it since 1999 and it has 120,000 miles and the transmission is still intact, and the brakes have only been changed three times. The ride is great and smooth. The road noise is almost nonexistent and the seats are comfortable. My family loves this car and I can offer no complaint for the van or the dealership. Would I buy another one?? I am planning to just as soon as I need one!!!!!!

Strength:

It is very comfortable to travel in and very roomy inside.

Weakness:

I have had problems with it cutting off in the middle of driving. It just shuts down like its losing power. I have to put in park and restart it after that happens. It has happened and been in the shop several times. I will be driving and it will all the sudden just go dead on me. Has anyone else had this problem?

I will not buy another town and country after the problems I have experienced with this one.

Strength:

Power doors, power hatch, completely loaded, comfortable and spacious travel. Gas mileage much better than SUV.

Weakness:

Mechanical issues related to brakes and transmission.

Definitely watch out for the brakes. We had to replace the brakes at 25,000 miles. Also, the transmission shifts hard. We just took the van in this week as the malfunction light for the OBD lit up. It appears that the dealership had to replace the transmission valve body and core. Personally, the van, which only has 28,000 miles now, has needed to much maintenance for such low mileage. The actual interior and exterior appearance is wonderful and the van itself is very comfortable for the long family trips but mechanically I have questions on if this product is worth the price tag. I would seriously recommend to future buyers to take a long test drive to see if you feel any shifting in the transmission as well as the idle speed.

1997 Dodge Grand Caravan which had most of the same issues. We thought the Town & Country was a step up and much improved over the Caravan but Chrysler still has a little work to do.

Strength:

Quiet engine with adequate power (3.3L V6) LOTS of room for anything. Tight, substantial, and well built

Weakness:

Brakes need work MUCH too early. This is a serious defect and will cost you if you put a lot of miles on it. This deducts from the "Value" rating. Seats are torture devices. Be sure you check out before buying.

What is it with these vans and the brakes??!! I read the other reviews and couldn't believe complete brake jobs at 25,000 miles. Well, it is my turn. 22,000 miles of easy driving and I need brakes. I had a 1996 Caravan and it went 50,000 or more between brakes, but this product must use chalk for brake pads. All owners should listen carefully for a subtle "grinding" sound and get in immediately before the rotors go. Positives are ride. Excellent, especially on cross-country drives. Drives like a car, and manuvers quite well in the city despite its size. I can haul ANYTHING. 4x8 sheets of plywood and drywall, lumber up to 10' long, bikes with both wheels still on, all fit in the back with no trouble. The seats are uncomfortable. My old 1996 had great seats, but my back is always aching with this van, and the kids must recline their seats a lot to get comfortable. Be sure to take a LONG test drive before you buy to be sure the seats are good for you. The power sliding doors are a waste of time and money. They work okay, but the effort involved in finding the right button on the key/remote and pressing the tiny button twice, exceeds the effort to just open the darn door. A remote rear hatch would be more useful for me. The only other complaint is that it has a bit too much torque in when starting off, especially if in a turn. The wheels spin way too easy on wet or snowy pavement. You would expect a 4000+ pound front drive vehicle to have better traction than this.

HORRIBLE customer service... bad brakes... interior lights broken at 5,000 miles... interior trim pulled away... seems like shoddy workmanship all around... I'm worried about the future with this car...

It's actually a 2005, but I couldn't select that...The car is comfortable, but have already had problems with it... only 15,000 miles and had to replace the front brakes AND rotors!!! No warning sounds or anything on the brake pads, which are only warrented for 12,000 miles... dealership (NOT carmax... they are too far for me to take it for repairs) service dept. is HORRIBLE!!! They were rude, NOT helpful in ANY way... left me with a VERY sour attitude about everything Chrysler...this is the first Chrysler I have purchased, and it will be the last!! I still can't figure out how the brakes & rotors could go at 15,000 miles... they said we had to have been driving with 2 feet, riding the brakes...RIDICULOUS!!! They wanted $350 to fix... took to my mechanic for $190... NEVER AGAIN!
