Strength:

Comfort
Easy with small children
Wonderful power features

Weakness:

A few months after purchasing TC we had to take it to the shop because it would just automatically switch into neutral gear (auto transmission). After repaired, it did it again. Dealership told us it was a grain of sand that will cause it to switch into neutral. Are we gullable or what? Have had other repairs and complaints about service. Fuel light blinks and makes warning sound even when gas in tank.

We bought this van used for a great price. We have enjoyed the comfort especially with our small children but we're not sure about purchasing another Chrysler. We're still having trouble with it. Not getting it fixed when we bring it in. Like the TC comfort, but we're more concerned with safety issues.

Model Reviewed: Town & Country LXI

Strength:

Smooth ride, handles like a large car, plenty of room, good for long drives (we drove ours across the country and regularly drive between Sacramento and San Diego), reasonable gas mileage for a large vehicle (20 mpg, fully loaded on the highway going above the speed limit). Very quiet overall except for some wind noise at high speeds.

Weakness:

Front brake rotors keep warping every 15K miles, had to replace water pump and belt tensioner (under warranty), shocks went at 60K miles, tires lasted 55k miles. So far no problems with the automatic transmission at 75k miles.

Would recommend, great ride on highway and easy handling for such a large vehicle. Would give it 5 stars if it weren't for the water pump, belt tensioner and warped rotor problems.

Model Reviewed: T&C Limited

Strength:

The torque of the 3.8 engine.
The smooth shifting.
The exterior design of the van (prefer it to the Honda Odyssey's "box" look).
The luxury-styled interior: suede door panel inserts, the colors, control placement, dash layout, etc.
The Leather seats, with both heat and memorization.
The comfort of the 3rd row seats (not bad!)
The Infinity sound system.
The size.

Weakness:

Wind noise at +45mph.
Transmission quality control problems (replaced under warranty once.. didn't actually fail, but sprouted a leak). Got the extended warranty (7 year1/100k miles) so I don't have to worry about such issues.
Gas mileage is relatively poor (15-17)

Highly recommended. Even with the transmission replacement (at 8500 miles) , I'd buy another one. The dealership experience was positive. The service department experience was positive. I was provided a rental while the mini was being serviced and have had no problems since. Its been a great vehicle, and the best recommendation I could give it is that my wife loves it... and she HATED minivans due to the image. She was in full SUV mode, and was wanting a Navigator/Expedition - but after driving the mini (its her car) and loading/unloading kids and groceries, she's sold.

Compared with Odyssey EX. Due to the rarity of the Honda, the prices were too far north for a product lacking all the features of the Chrysler. Though the third row seat fold-down was neat, the seat didn't seem as comfortable to me as the Chrysler's. Though I know moving the Chrysler's seat in/out is a hassle, we never have had to do it but once, so it wasn't an important consideration. The Honda's sound system was lacking (tinny?), and look of the dash and the controls just seemed... well "cheap". Since the base price is less than the T&C, I didn't expect the same level of polish, but due to the demand for the Odyssey the asking prices where either at or more than the T&C when we were in the market, so really it was quite an easy choice.

Model Reviewed: Chrysler T&C Limited 3.8L

Strength:

-Great ride quality
-More room than the other guys
-Decent power
-Neato chrome wheels and door handles
-Fun buttons and other features (overhead console)
-Butt toasters
-Easy to park and great visiblity out of the van
-Dual Climate control (great feature!)
-Better than car like ride and driving
-Pop out the seats and you can haul stuff

Weakness:

-Fuel mileage could be a little better
-Maybe a little more engine power
-Doors lock all the time when driving (Disabled this feature)
-Controls seem a little out of reach

Our 2000 Chrysler T&C Limited shocked us when we first drove it. The ride quality was absolutely 100 times better than our New Yorker. Not to mention how quiet the van is mechanically and with dealing with wind and road noise. In fact, our T&C is the best riding vehicle we have ever had. The seats are comfortable especially wrapped in leather (the butt toasters are nice up here in So Dak). The room for people and stuff is excellent for someone who needs more space than a car but not the expense and annoyance with sport utes. Besides, only 10% of all sport utes make it off road any way, so what's the point of banging a four wheel drive up and down the highway? If you are considering a sport ute, check out a Chrylser or Dodge van. They ride better, get better fuel mileage, and are a lot cheaper. So far we haven't had any problems yet. The T and C is good in snow too in case if you are wondering. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone!

Model Reviewed: T/C LXI AWD

Strength:

Design is contemporary, interior is extremely comfortable, power train is smooth and very adequate, handling is superb.

Weakness:

Some of the interior finish has tiny flaws; once in a while I get the steering column knock sound. 2nd row of buckets do not adjust forward or backward.

Best minivan on the road for the money. It has great comfort and roominess, and really accelerates well and handles like a sports car.
Rear hatch door doesn't close properly sometimes. AWD is a great feature for mountain goers. Would be super nice if the rear seat folded into the floor (a la Odyssey), but that might eliminate the AWD feature.

Quiet, comfortable ride, lots of passenger room.

Weakness:

Vehicle let me down on a trip. Only 13000 miles on the odometer. Stopped for gas and vehicle refused to restart. It is at a dealership right now and I am waiting to hear from them. Wind noise is bothersome. Disc brake rotors seem to warp after 12000 miles. This has happened on two of my T/C's. 1996 model had a major water leak.

Had major problems with the fuel system on the 1998. Six trips to the dealer failed to correct the problem. Finally traded it. Jury is still out on this one. Wife says no more Chrysler products. We will see.

Model Reviewed: Chrysler Town & Country LXi All-Wheel-Drive

Strength:

All-wheel-drive, luxurious interior, car-like ride, seven passenger seating.

Weakness:

Cruise control is difficult to operate at night, lacks auto-up feature on driver-side window, poor fuel economy.

To begin with, my wife and I never wanted to own or drive a minivan. However, the impending arrival of our third child motivated us to shop for a “practical” family vehicle. We thus began our search for a mid-sized SUV with 3rd row seating.

We started out looking at the Mercedes-Benz ML 320 and Dodge Durango. We found that access to the optional 3rd row passenger seats was inadequate with two children occupying car seats in the 2nd row. Realizing that a mid-sized SUV wouldn’t meet our needs, we begrudgingly set out to obtain a suitable minivan. This was to be a completely utilitarian purchase for us now, which turned out to be a powerful negotiating tool. The various dealers that we visited were keenly aware that they had to SELL us a minivan.

After several weeks of research and test drives we narrowed our choices down to the Honda Odyssey and Chrysler Town & Country (T&C). We ultimately decided on the all-wheel-drive version of the T&C LXi. The key factors in our decision were the car-like ride, luxury appointments, interior room and all-wheel-drive. Chrysler was also offering 0.9% APR financing for 60 months which made our decision that much easier.

A few months after our purchase, my wife (6-months pregnant at the time), our two young children and I journeyed to Florida in the T&C LXi for our summer vacation. We logged more than 3,500 miles in the vehicle over a three-week period. Although we were dreading the drive, it turned out to be quite comfortable and enjoyable (most likely due to the on-board TV/VCR that kept the children entertained). When a very pregnant woman can travel in a vehicle for 8+ hours a day without complaining, you know it’s a comfortable ride. What more can I say?

Summary: This minivan handles like a luxury sedan and is a pleasure to drive on long trips or around town. The optional all-wheel-drive system with 3.8 liter V-6 engine and 4-wheel disc brakes provides excellent responsiveness in all driving conditions. We are very satisfied with the versatility of this vehicle as both a people and cargo hauler. I highly recommend the all-wheel-drive Chrysler Town & Country LXi, it is a terrific all-around family vehicle.

Strength:

Great looking car, smooth riding, plenty of room and storage. Easy driving.

Weakness:

Gas mileage not that great. Leather seats hard to clean. Rear bench seat extremely heavy. Radio/CD player drives me nuts. Can't get to CD storage easily with drinks in cup holder and stuff on the floor.

I paid $31,000 which was loaded with leather, TV, CD player, the works. And if I had to do it again, I would buy another in a heart beat. Although I think I would upgrade to the 2000 model and get the automatic doors. Leather seats are hard to clean inbetween the cracks of the seats. The only problem I have had was with the radio. Had a new one installed under warrenty. I do think the radio problem may have been caused by the TV installation however. The rear bench seat also drives me nuts. It is every bit of 80lbs plus. When I need to get supplies from the hardware store, I dread taking it out. Other then that, it is a wonderderful van(drives like a car).

Strength:

3.8 Litre engine is sufficient.Leather seats are great. Plus the heated seats are great in Michigan winters.Hugs the road on curves nicely.Plenty of room. Very satisfied overall.Front lights (with fog lights) are efficient. Braking is good (though I had to get used to Anti-Lock brakes)Gas mileage on highway is 23 MPG (91 Caravan with 3.3 Litre engine got 28 MPG)

Weakness:

No under hood light. No read door latch release. They removed the oil pressure and voltage gauges from the dash. Wished second seat windows opened (like on my 91 Caravan). Wished second seats moved forward and back.Need more front foot room.

I like the handling and ride of the Chrysler Mini-Vans. It's more like a luxury automoble than a van.In fact that was a deciding factor when I bought my 91 Caravan (in 91).
The 2000 Limitied rides much better than my 91 Caravan ever did.
Friend of mine has the Potiac 2000 Montana and doesn't like the ride or handling nearly as much as he likes the Chrysler Limited.
If you like space and comfort then get one for yourself.

Strength:

3.8L engine makes plenty of power. Comfortable seats. Infinity stereo is best stock system ever heard. 4 disc in dash changer is convenient. Power rear hatch is nice when hands are full.

Weakness:

gas mileage 17-19mpg avg gas is $1.70/gal at the cheapest
interior is very monotone in color
says it seats seven but three in the rear bench is a tight squeeze and middle person is going to have severe wedgie from split bench.
Front cup holders block block access to cd changer when holding drinks.

Paid 32500 with the 5yr/100000mi extended warranty. This is "The best minivan ever". We test drove EVERYTHING else and came back to the T&C. Very comfortable, very powerful, and very quiet. The remote power doors and rear hatch are great head turners. The kids also enjoy being able to open and close their own doors with the push buttons in the rear, even my 2 year old does it. Only problem I've had with it so far is the wheel hub caps squeek. Had it into the dealer twice and they say that it's the retaining clips and they've had problems with them before.
