Strength:

whatever strenghts this car has-they cannot be outweighed by its weaknesses

Weakness:

an hour after i drove off the lot the indicator light went on. i had to bring it in twice to be fixed. while i was driving the demo car-an identical make and model with 3,000 miles-the car died with no warning. it simply just stopped. I HAVE THREE SMALL CHILDREN, INCLUDING A 4 MONTH OLD, AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR. PLEASE, IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR FAMILY, DO NOT PURCHASE THIS VAN. IF THE LIGHT IN FRONT OF ME HAD NOT TURNED RED, THE SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN HORRIBLE. THIS WAS A BRAND NEW CAR!

This is my second T&C. I had problems with my '97, but was assured the gliches were worked out. we bought it for the roominess in the third back seat. DON'T BUY A TOWN AND COUNTRY!!!!

Strength:

Good looking, plenty of space, nicely designed controls radio and cruise controls, quiet and comfortable, durable leather seats and seat warmers are nice in the winter!

Weakness:

We now have about 60K miles on the car and I've had to replace the oil sending unit, a cracked exhaust header and now a belt tensioner. Fuel economy could be better but then again you are paying for comfort vs a lighter weight and less comfortable van. The radio and cruise controls on the steering wheel should light up as they are hard to see when driving at night. Bad depreciation value in a very short amount of time if you don;t hang on to your cars for very long.

I bought this van with 50K mikes on it. Overall nice looking van, enough power with the 3.8L engine, a few mechanical problems so far, I'm a bit worried about the reviews I've read one here with similar vans as I hope mine doesn't have that many repairs! Also, my 1999 Limited van was only 22,000 vs a 2002 limited van that sold for $36,000. Talk about depreciation! This could be good and bad depending on how long you plan to keep your van! My next van will probably be a Honda van.

Strength:

Comfort, style, ammenities - kid friendly.

Weakness:

POWER DOORS! I've had constant problems with the dual power doors. They are possessed. The either don't work or they open and close on their own. Quite annoying especially when it's dark and I have small children and I'm schlepping in and out of the van to try to get a door to stay closed - or even open. The dealer has been incredibly supportive and helpful but I'm getting tired of wondering when the doors will fail again. Aside from the door problems, this is a great van and as long as Chrysler continues to acknoweledge and correct their weakness in this regard, I'd buy another one.

First time van owner. Took 3 years to convince my husband to get one. We decided on the T&C and we both love it.

Strength:

Looks ( for a van) Quad sitting

Weakness:

Known historical tranny problems. Road/wind noise, specially if you are sitting next to the sliding doors. Terrible headlights for night visibility! Heavy seats, specially the bench, to be taking it out. They need to come up with a hideaway third bench such as Honda, Olds, Chev, etc

Overall the van is nice. Nothing to really brag about and nothing is done extremely well. We had transmission problems at 43,500 miles (out of warranty). I had to get a bit "loud" with Chrysler and they replaced it free of charge. They called it "customer goodwill care", I called it "they are trying to avoid a recall from people complaining too loud about their tranny problems". Later on I found out about this problem being all too common. The dealer replaced 3 trannys without our van leaving the shop as they trannys were bad when they did the road test. Finally th fourth one was good, only to have a bad pwr streering pump three hours after we left the dealer. Again, taking with Chrysler even "louder" got it replaced for only $50.00 deductible. The Chrysler people said it would be my last "goodwill" repair and that they will not continue to repair my out-of warranty vehicle for free. You would not have to if your van was designed properlly! Other than that, no major problems. The dealer was very nice about helping me in dealing with Chrysler and I would buy from them again, except that I would not buy a Chrysler product.

Strength:

Good features for the price.

Weakness:

Faulty rear liftgate, poor acceleration and fuel economy. Poor manufacturer support.

Bought the vehicle new because I didn''t want the headache of an old van. In the first year, I had problems with the airbag indicator light, 1 manufacturer''s recall due to the transmission control module and a faulty automatic liftgate. The manual does tell you that it won''t open in freezing weather but mine does not open in the morning even if it is 45F. This only happens about 3x a week and just in the morning. So I need to manually open it in the mornings and the rest of the day it will work just fine. Took it back to the dealership twice to have it fixed and in both cases they could not replicate it so until now it has not been fixed. They told me it is Chrysler policy that they will not be reimbursed for doing repairs to problems they are not able to replicate. So I called Chrysler to inform them that this is an intermettent problem and I had even made an effort to produce a videotape showing how the door closes after attempting to open about 1/2 inch. I was told by Chrysler that nothing could be done unless it could be replicated. Even if I have a video evidence. It is just Chrysler policy. As a last resort, I asked to talk to manager in Chrysler customer support and the lady told my wryly that - "OUR MANAGERS DO NOT TALK TO CUSTOMERS!!!". Buy a Chrysler and you will be left alone if something goes wrong. Take my advice. BUY A HONDA!

Strength:

Wonderful features. Handles great, low road noise.

Weakness:

Rough and annoying engine performance at common travel speeds because of this weird problem in the engine/computer/transmission. Feels like bumps in the road (big bumps). Brakes on the weak side and too much travel on the pedal before stopping begins to happen.

The Mini Van is wonderful in most respects, but has had problems with the automatic sliding doors and rear gate. Fuel economy is very poor. I''m lucky to get 19 MPG on a trip with no load. As with most Vans, it is difficult to determine just exactly your front bumper (Doesn''t really have a bumper) is located with respect to any object in front of you or to the side of you. This van was purchased used with 22K miles and looked as new as one in the show room. I got it for a good price but of course there had to be a reason right? Any way - before I bougth it I noticed a problem with the way the engine performed and I really couldn''t tell if it were the engine or the transmission. Symptoms: engine misfiring or running erratically under specific driving conditions. The problem presents itself while driving on smooth level road and under light load in a speed range of from 40 – 60 MPH (and maybe higher). The accelerator is in a fixed position and after the transaxle switches through the gears and finally into OD the apparent missing or stumbling of the engine becomes very noticeable. It is most noticeable with the A/C on and with cruise control on. The problem is always present once one knows what to feel for. I asked the dealer to have that problem corrected before I purchased the vehicle. The van was taken to the Dealership for warranty service. The service department stated to me in person that the District Service Manager out of New Orleans and Chrysler are aware of this problem on some 2001 and 2002 models with the 3.8 liter engine and is working on a solution for the problem. The Chrysler Service Department assured me that it was safe to purchase and drive this van. The Service Department assured me that the van would be repaired under warranty as soon as the technical solution was found by the Chrysler Engineers and a TSB was forwarded to the dealership. I''ve had the Van in for repairs three times now and they don''t have a clue as to what is the solution. The service manager advised me (not in writing of course) start the arbitration process and get rid of the van. Well, I love the van otherwise and would like to keep it. I was told by a Chrysler Representative that "out of 400 thousand of these vans sold, that I was only the 4th person to complain about that problem."

Strength:

The best thing about this vehicle is the comfortable ride and good gas mileage. We can get a lot of cargo into and still have plenty of room for the kids and the dog. The body still looks very good and and it is usually very dependable.

Weakness:

The air conditioning system and transmission!!!! We have dumped $2,000 in air conditioning repairs into this van and it still doesn''t work. It runs for about 3 months once you get it fixed and then dies again. This makes for very cranky kids and sweaty legs slipping on the leather interior. The transmission just went out on this vehicle also and this is costing another nineteen hundred to fix and a week without a vehicle.

Overall this has been a good vehicle. We bought it with 69 thousand miles and now have around 130 thousand. It rides nice and is comfortable for the kids even on long rides. The extras options are nice; however, the leather interior gets hot.

Strength:

Seats, sound level, great traction when needed, very comfy cruiser, low-rpm torque. Driving pleasure despite its size.

Weakness:

Weak headlights, squeaks from engine (comes from accessory belt but seems very difficult to eradicate), thin passing power, non-working park brake, A/C stinks from stale water that collects on the condenser (and you can''t do anything about it)

I´ve owned this T&C through 60,000 miles, since it was brand new at Christmas 1997. And it has been a very reliable car with extremely comfortable seats, adequate power and nicely thought out interior amenities. Compared to an earlier ''96 T&C, thus one has much better brakes. All in all, a highly recommended vehicle for those who need the space (who doesn''t?).

Great comfort, these are luxury people carriers. Best looking minivan. Very roomy and beats all the competition hands down.

Weakness:

Nothing yet

Finally got rid of Sienna Minivan (junk -sludge problem). Town and Country is King of the Minivan. 3.8 engine has a lot of power. Transmission is smooth, cruise control excellent. I love power lift gate, makes your life easier. Also the van is really quiet, no wind noise. Leather seats are comfortable.
