Strength:
Interior comfort Ride and handling Space
Weakness:
hints of transmission difficulties (at 40K miles) front seats not enormously comfortable for very long trips, though we don't have the extra "lumbar" package When our 2nd child was born 2 years ago we went in search of minivans, and have been quite happy with our 2001 Town and Country LX (bought in the fall of 2000). It now has 40,000 miles. It has not needed major mechanical repair (though I should note there are hints of transmission problems; mechanics have not found anything) after an early recall to fix the air conditioning compressor. Comfort and interior generally are excellent. The ride and handling are very strong (much better than the Windstars I test-drove). Seating is good though a bit more flexibility would be nice (ie the middle seats don't shift back to allow for longer legs; the rear bench seat can be removed but is heavy for one person). The 2001 and newer T&Cs seem to be a solid improvement over earlier models. It is, to be sure, a minivan -- but a "manly minivan," I like to think. T&C Limited AWD
Strength:
Smooth and quiet, good power/torque, sharp design, drives great, AWD traction, excellent warantee, manufacturer discounts
Weakness:
previous models had tranny problems, local Fresno dealer needs a bath, cheap carpet Let me begin by saying that I love Honda vehicles, I have owned several, and when it was time to replace my wife's current Plymouth Grand Voyager I was all for getting the Honda Odyssey. My wife however liked the look of the Town & Country so to humor her, I had the local dealers bring both an Odyssey and a T&C Limited to our home to drive them back to back. The thing that struck me was that the T&C was just so much more luxurious, quiet at speed, and more stylish and attractive. The Honda drove well and seemed somewhat quicker and drove slightly more car-like, but the so-called big selling point of the Honda, the folding rear seat, actually ended up being a negative. Before you buy an Odyssey because the rear seat folds flat, you should actually sit in the seat, because it is not comfortable at all. It's a park bench, fine for your kids but the comfort is totally inferior to the split buckets in the rear of the T&C. We have 3 kids so I could not imagine many circumstances where I would want it folded flat, anyways, we were buying it because it had three rows of seats and we need 3 rows 98% of the time. I am not knocking the Odyssey, it was very nice, and priced fairly, but driving them back to back, I couldn't convince myself that it was better. We bought a 2003 T&C Limited AWD 2 weeks ago. The dealer incentives were amazing, $2500 off the top and another $1700 off in a leather rebate, brough my price for this absolutely loaded machine to just over $36,000 (I used an auto broker, well worth his fee, and got invoice on the car). For just about $4000 more than the Odyssey leather version, we got AWD, power everything, killer sound system and DVD player, great chrome wheels, heated seats/mirrors, trip computer and all the digital toys, power memory seats, and the list goes on. My impressions after 2 weeks of ownership: the car was delivered by car carrier from a dealership in San Diego (about 300 miles away) and right away there was a problem, the transport had somehow reset the ABS system so the ABS activated everytime I stepped on the brakes, so I had to take the fuse out of the ABS so we could drive it. Big disappointment, for a brand new car, but I'm not sure I can attribute that to poor quality since it was likely the fault of the transport company. Also the driver dome light burnt out in like 2 days, again a fairly small thing. The local dealer fixed both problems quickly and efficiently, although the dealership itself is not particularly clean or attractive, compared to the local Honda dealer. Cost me nothing of course. Initial impressions of driving the van are very positive. It is EXTREMELY quiet, I call my wife on her cell when she is driving it on the freeway and I cannot tell that she is in a car. Try that in an odyssey, it is noisier. It is also extremely comfortable, the leather is good quality, the suede inserts are nice, the stereo and DVD player are spectacular, although I would prefer a bigger screen than a 7 incher, that's me being demanding. The kids love it. The power doors and rear hatch are great and work well. The power is very good, not a race car but not underpowered by any means. The AWD is completely seamless, you never know it's there except when you need it. Fuel efficiency lacks, but it's loaded with a ton of crap and AWD to boot, so I can't complain too much. The warantee is much better than Honda, yes the transmissions on these things has a glass jaw but with 7 years/70000 mile warantee on it, I will be long gone and on another car before I ever have to pay for a fix. Some minor quibbles, this is supposed to be totally luxury and yet the carpet is not thick pile and the included mats feel cheap, there are more plastics than I would prefer, especially in the rear cargo area the plastics look cheap for a luxury vehicle. I would like to have had a navigation system but apparently there just aren't any in the models with the DVD player, I don't know if this is availability or a design limit. I wish the CD player was a multi-disk, but again with the DVD player you can't get that. I don't like the silly beep that goes along with automatically opening the rear gate. What is this, a semi? The dealership is lacking in cleanliness and general attractiveness, I mean the service counter has bulletproof glass seperating you from the employees, I felt like I was visiting someone in prison or something, but that could just be because i live in Fresno. Honda dealerships generally are nicer but they are just as abusive as any other auto company in my opinion in terms of their business practices and sales tactics. I think the car is very stylish and well designed, it just plain looks sharp. The chrome wheels are nice. The view from the drivers seat is really good, although you can't see the front of the car so I bought my wife one of those traffic light parking aides in the garage so she didn't end up in the kitchen. The turning radius is much sharper than our old van. The i Similar Products Used: plymouth grand voyager, test drove an odyssey prior to buying the T&C |

Strength:
Powerful, versatile and reliable. Rides great, much better than my SUV. Very comfortable. Great sound system, heated seats. All wheel drive occaisionally quite helpful.
Weakness:
Some of the cheap plastic trim around the captains chairs broke twice, $30 repair. Bought it used with 28K miles. Now have 98000. Extremely versatile, very comfortable, surprisingly reliable. Replaced water pump at 85,ooo. I bought a bumper to bumper 100,000 mile extended service warrenty from my credit union, and I'm not sure I've used up the $900 in repairs. The all wheel drive does make a difference on hills and in the mountains. We tow boats and campers with it, and it handles great, with loads of power. We have the 3.8 Liter engine, and load leveling suspension. Similar Products Used: 1992 Voyager AWD - also relaible, not nearly as nice |

comfort, roomy, handles great, good mileage, quiet ride, great looking van sentry key antitheft system, three zone temp control, drives nicer than my Grand Marquis
Weakness:
hopefully not the trans. The Town & Country has placed the joy back into driving for me. I chose to drive this van more than my Grand Marquis that I love to drive. I've owned a 1989 voyager before that lasted me to 180,000 mi. until the trans went But wow what a difference. I purchased this van off a one year lease (16000 mi)w/remainder of factory warranty 3/36 and a extended warranty. So far I've had two problems, the rear window seal leaked, had that repaired by the dealer but then the tape used on the window took the top coat of clear coat paint off Also repaired by the dealer. But on the plus side I love driving this van, it handles well, very roomy and comfortable, nice sound system (six speaker) fair power with the 3.3 engine. I love the intergrated child seats that save space and time. The gas mileage is good I cann't wait to take vacation this year looking forward to the drive. I drive to Fl. and Va. Beach every year and with a couple of teens and the grand kids the extra room will be great. I just got rid of my merc. villager nice van (130,000 mi) but really to small for those family trips. I've read reviews about the trans problems but I'm looking forward to a good experience with this van I'll write another reviw after summer vacation. 1. Quiet ride 2. Mechanically sound 3. Comfortable and roomy 4. Handles well. 5. Good gas mileage (18-20 city 22-24 Hwy) We bought our T&C used (52K mi.) and have been quite pleased. We have driven it across country on family trips a few times and enjoy it's quiet ride and easy handling. It has lots interior room. We have had no major mechanical problems, just a few "glicthes".. sometimes the wipers go on by themselves for no reason and sometimes one or more of the power locks won't lock or unlock. We had to have one of motors replaced for one of the power windows. We bought an extended warranty from the dealer to cover it up to 100K incase of major mechanical issues since it was used and because we had transmission issues with a previous Chrysler Van we owned, but so far this one has been great up to 120K miles! Originally a very nice ride very quiet roomy good power
Weakness:
too many repairs transmission problems screws and caps fall off/interior dealer honesty? Through the first two years and 50K we had little to no problems. The transmission went out at 52K. The dealer charged $2600 to repair. Wrote Chrysler and then refudnded 90% for "goodwill". Little things have been going wrong since. Most recently, vibration at 40 -50 mph. New tires and alignment have not helped. I would never buy another van from Chrysler again! Similar Products Used: suburban |

the inside room
Weakness:
Until I actually bought a Chrysler, I thought it was one of the finest on the market. Now I know otherwise. I even expected more from the customer service. I will never again own a Chrysler. Period. This van is like a "demon". The steering colum will not turn - the interior lights flash off and on while driving down the road or just parked in the driveway. The window will not roll down - or if you get it down, it will not go back up. The doors will not lock. And it had left me totally stranded, and had it towed the next day. I hope to have this van purchased back by Chrysler with the help of my laywer and Action 9 news. Wish me luck! Similar Products Used: 1st mini van also own a 2000 Chevrolet 4 door Z71 |

Strength:
1. Smooth and quiet ride 2. A very nice 10 speaker sound system 3. Nice suede leather seats (very supportive too) 4. Power liftgates and power sliding doors 5. Enormous cargo room (comparabble to the Suburbann) 6. Good engine power 7. Removable power console 8. A value priced dvd system (for about $700) 9. A minivan's first power sunroof. 10. 0% APR x 60 months 11. A free 7 year/70,000 powertrain warranty
Weakness:
So far so good. I know the T&C have been having bad reviews exp. the transmission, but with the extended powertrain warranty, this should ease some anxiety. Also how come no "double" sunvisors?? Our very first minivan. We've had this minivan for a little more than a month and it has has been wonderful. Now I'm wondering why in the world was I driving SUV's for years when this minivan drives and handles a WHOLE LOT BETTER than these overpriced gas guzzling unstable monsters. It's got a cargo room (with seats out) comparable to my 2001 K2500 Suburban (with seats out too). Gas mileage about 23 - 24 mpg (it has a trip computer that tells you your average mpg, miles till next oil change, miles till gastank empty- quite accurate, trip meter, outside temp, compass, tire pressure monitor, etc). Engine very quiet and strong, low wind noise at freeway speeds, nice SUEDE letherseats, driver seat memory (incl. radio, mirrors, pedals). A very nice DVD system. And a sliding SUNROOF! A nice solid 'thud' when closing the doors. It's power liftgate is a must for the other minivans out there. And the removable power console has enormous space to store your necessities (headsets, dvd remote, emergency flashlight, tissue box, maps, etc. with a separate powered cradle for charging your phone- very neat!). All in all a very nice package. Similar Products Used: Currently have a 2001 K2500 Suburban LT with AutoRide - drives nice but not as nice as this T&C. Also a gas guzzler 12-13 mpg HIGHWAY! We still have our 1997 Honda CRV with 70,000 miles, still drives |
