Strength:
Everything
Weakness:
nothing I LOVE MY ASTRO! I love everything about these vans. This is the only van that I respect. I had a Aerostar van, and it was the worst van I have ever been in. It sucked so bad. And any other mini vans like the venture, windstar and caravan; they are just junk. Astro's and Safari's are the best! Similar Products Used: Stupid ford Aerostar-they suck. |

ROBERT
Strength:
Good storage room. Decent in snow. Good towing power
Weakness:
Brakes and rotors always need changed. Driver floor space quite small. Good room for carrying family but front floor room for driver too small(cramps). Good for towing. Keep going through front brake rotors every 8 months with minimal driving. Brake dust from front constantly requires rewashing of wheels and sides. Overall still a good van. Weakness:
Do not buy unless you plan to sell in less that 3 years before the paint job fails. The paint is cracked on the roof of the van after 4 years and GM refuses to pick up the tab because of the mileage. The hood was re-painted 2 years ago because of vandalism and the paint cracked in the same manner. The dealer admitted that it was a bad paint job and re-painted for free. GM refuses to show the same consideration for the roof. Research has shown that there is a history of bad paint on Chevy products and in many cases they have re-painted reguardless of the mileage. Common sense dictates that mileage doesn't affect paint.... only time does. There is a reasonable expectation that a factory paint job should last 4 years. Similar Products Used: 1996 Astro Fan |

Astro
Strength:
Hold 8 people, rear a/c, large back for carring stuff
Weakness:
We had it in the shop for warranty work 12 times in 13 months. Two times for a brake situation, tailpipe, power windows, power locks, rear a/c switch. 2001 Chev. Astro with power windows, locks, luggage rack, rear a/c, CD/cassette, three rear doors, power drivers seat, towing package, dark green, carries 8 people. Great for a big family and lots of room in the back for three adults and leg room. There is plenty of room in the very back for groceries, band instruments, etc. Similar Products Used: We have only owned three vans in the 15 years of marriage and two of them have been an Ford Areostar. The third of course being the Astro. |

Weakness:
SMALL ANUAL REPAIRS TIRES YEY I EATS THESE UP IN THE FRONT BRAKES SAME THING CREEKS AND RATTLES YEY. JUST TURN UP THE STEREO. Well guys now after 5 great years and 80,000 miles with this van I feel your pain. Yeh I some of the same small problems like everyone else like fuel pump, radiator, fan clutch, thermastat, brakes but these are all a easy fix if you are some what of a hands on kind of guy. fuel pump 140.00 2hr job,fan clutch radiator, thermastat 210.00 3hrs brakes what a piece of cake 75.00 1hr. Windshield wipers-solder joint on circit board 15min. I use this van to pull my boat accros the Mojave desert at 100+ 6-7 times a year, and this is all that went wrong, boy I would take that over a swift kick in the you know what. over all my wife and I enjoy this van. Strength:
-handling in turns and curves -great gas mileage (try to use a higher octane at all times or a gas booster) -everything is pretty much easy to fix (IT IS ALL IN ENGLISH!!) -just a well made van all around -will beat pretty much anything on the road: it is not about how fast you are............
Weakness:
Needs a new look for 2003!!! The Astro van is great. We upgraded from a KIA to the real deal: Chevy Astro LS. At first sight, it looked big and bulky but once behind the wheel, my thoughts changed. It is great on gas, very roomy and comfortable. Our kids love it!! The Astro gives you the power when you need it. The rear wheel drive is awesome. Similar Products Used: Toyota Van and Dodge Van |

Every thing
Weakness:
nothing We bought our Astro in 1994 and still have it. Its got 18o,ooo miles on it. I m a huge Astro fan and always will be. Our astro has bin through a lot and has no signs of slowing down. The older astros are the best. The new astros may not be as good as the older ones. People now adays don't care about quality, they only care about making money. So don't ever blame that astro or safari, but blame the makers for not trying. It's not the vans fault for being put together wrong. Astros are the best ever! Similar Products Used: trucks |

Astro conversion
Strength:
Tow ability, driver comfort, reliability,a nd good looks if you keep it up.
Weakness:
Small legrom on passenger side front. Plugs are a pain to change. A little more trucklike than the APV, which to us was a plus. Some might think it a negative. Our former van was a Lumina APV, which was OK, but not enough to tow the bigger trailer we're looking at. After an accident with the APV, we decded it was time to upgrade, and this one happned to be available. The thing is a Tiara conversion, an Elite model which as I gather it was the mid level choice for Tiara in this platform for this year. Came with Plush Captains in the first 4, and a plush couch that power folds to a bed in the back. Curtains at all windows. A really comfortable truck, and reliable as all get out. We now have over 100k miles on it and the thing runs and looks like new. I took some time and cleaned it up, to get the looks better. Options I added; K&N filter and pipes, Flowmaster muffler, Splitfire plugs and Accel wires. Result: 25mpg on the road, and 17-18 around town. Driveability is great. I'll say this flat out; this is the best vehicle purchase I've ever made, and I've been driving for 20 years. I've never had bad luck with a high mile chevy,a nd this one is proving to be more of the same. As I say, we are campers, and haul a pop-up, soon to be a hybrid trailer. The Astro is made for towing, and is the best choice for small to medium size trailers, under say, 5000lbs. If you can find a used Astro, Get it. If you can afford a new one, plan to be driving it for at least 10 years. My 95 will be around for another 10 anyway, the way it's going.
