Strength:

I love to watch kids sit each other when they see my car, SlugbuG! Plus its zoomy, easy on the gas and more versatile then I ever imagined.

Weakness:

Seats impossible to get clean. Burns a bit more oil than I'd like.

FABulous car. I bought this car new four years ago and have driven it on four cross-county drives, so nice to travel in. Only nicer was my 71 Fastback. I use this car extensively for surfing and to satify my Home Depot addiction; so that deraler roofrack gets used a lot. I even added a trailer hitch to carry my bicycle on 1000 mile road trips. I also bought a very light weight (100 lbs) trailer to tow occaisionally for short runs. ( yes, another Home Depot thing). I have never had any problems and now sitting at 54,400 miles. Well, this weekend my check engine light came on wouldnt ya know. After reading all these posts Im simply not going to freak out because its been such a womderful car. Tomorrow the dealer will check it and based on what Im reading on these posts, I feel calmer not the other way around. I know what to expect and wont let them sell me a bag of goods. Ill be sure to let the dealer know I know all about these posts and problems. Keep up the posts.

Looks cute..

Weakness:

6 disc changer-- what a waste of 500 bucks. I'm on my 2nd changer.. The first one -- fuse blew 3x before they replaced it.. The 2nd one-- has blown 3x as well. I'm not under warranty they say and I get to go in this Saturday to see if they'll do anything (who knows.. this is the 3rd dealer I've dealt with since they have such horrible customer service) As for any other problems.. other than the common oil issue, the inside door handles chipping, and the console breaking.. I guess it would be a flawless car?

Well.. Everyone was right.. Never buy a car based on looks...

Strength:

As the ad's say "Great driver's car",love it.

Weakness:

Needs snow tires for snow and ice. Can't leave sitting for more than 7 to 10 days or battery will go dead. Very low to the ground. Hard to drive under a 100 MPH.

Have owned the car for 3 1/2 yrs. Many problems with it. Only 37,000 miles on it.Must say though, headlight bulbs are a breeze to change.Just slide the lever on the back of the assembly down and the whole light assembly comes right out the front of the fender. Unplug the socket, replace the bulb, re-plug the socket, slide the assembly back into the fender and slide the lever back up. Done. 5 mins. To fix problem with trunk release put some strips of 1/4" sticky back foam window seal (hareware store) on top of rubber trunk hatch rests. It makes the rests a little thicker and pushes the hatch up higher when it's released. Most problems the same as other posts really. Except for a resent $860.00 repair all were covered under "extended" warranty. Dealer help wasn't any worse than any other dealer I have dealt with. That is to say absolutly terrible. VW compounds the problems by not offering a service manual to it,s "customers". Regular service items like; brakes, battery, fluids, bulbs, est., should not be guess work. Even a basic manuel for reg. serv. items, seems to me to be something companies like VW would offer to it "bread & butter". At least some of the items listed in these posts could be resolved easily and inexpensivly.

Strength:

looks, speed, fun

Weakness:

not dependable, don't buy on without a warrenty

Looks great and fun to drive. But have been pleagued with about a dozen different covered breakdowns. including turbo sensor, radiator sensor, window motor, trunk release, door panel lights, headlamps out, a/c not cold, windwipers and every electrical coil breaking down one by one leaving me standed in elpaso tx. I am tired of taking it into the shop. I can't wait to get out of the red and sell this lemon.

Its the cutest car in the world..thats about it.

Weakness:

You cant touch anything without it falling apart.

Before i even had my license i wanted a Bug, and on my 16th birthday i got one..but not even a month later the problems begain. It has locked up in park twice and had to be towed and have a sensor replaced. Both of my windows broke and fell into the door, after i got them replaced they began to grind and had to be fixed again. My check engine light came on and the dealership hooked it up to the computer but found no problems. It always makes a grinding noise when it starts sometimes and for a few minutes after i hit the gas. I took it to the dealer for this too, but once agian they found nothing. The paint on the door handles is chipping horribley, the buttons to put the wondow up and down are loose and popping the frame they are in is popping out the door. The side view mirror adjuster has falling off. the lock and unlock botton has fallen out, and the handle to the glove compartment fell off within the 1st week. I go to college 3 hours away from home and am now afraid to drive it that far for fear that it will just fall apart on the interstate.

I'M GLAD I KEPT READING REVIEWS & FINALLY CAME ACROSS SOME PEOPLE WHO ARE STILL IN LOVE WITH THEIR BUGS! I HOPE MY STORY HAS THE SAME ENDING...

Fun to drive.

Weakness:

You have to sepnd as much getting this thing fixed as you would if you had a '74 Ford whatever.

I loved this car when I first got it. It looked cool and drove great. Soon the pain on the door handles began to chip and the paint on the door panel got really nicked by the safety belts. But that was nothing, I could touch that up myself. Then it began to not start right away. We complained of this at our first tune up and they said it was because we revved the engine to high. ??. It has continued to do that on a daily basis and now is making grinding noises when it starts. Needless to say it's not covered under our warranty. (wink wink) Then the drivers side window motor quit right before a major thunderstorm. I live in Florida and this happens a lot. So I had to drive with tape covering the door like white trash until it could be fixed. :). Now the check ingine light is on. I'm over it. This thing is a piece of crap. I'm never buying VW new again!

It's cute?

Weakness:

This car failed me in every possible way, and it is a death machine on wheels.

I bought this car because I'd heard how safe it was, and I wanted a new reliable car. Well, it has been nothing but problems the four years that I had it. The nightmare began a week after I bought it, with the check engine light going on, a problem that I dealt with until its final day. A/C problems, electrical problems, engine cooling problems, had to have my IC cluster replaced, and they disconnected my CD disc changer and refused to reconnect it. Endless stress, and then it almost killed me. The engine died and the car turned off while I was driving at 55mph, the steering wheel locked up and the ABS brakes turned off, causing the car to spin out and crash into a tree. I split my head open and had to get staples put in, and my car is totaled, probably a blessing in disguise for me to finally be rid of it. Ironically, this happened the day after my final payment on the car.

Strength:

I think its the cutest car on the road and I LOVE IT! I love the drive, its awesome!

Weakness:

The car is too low on the ground and the trunk sometimes gives you trouble coz you dont know if you shut it well enough, and youre afraid of breaking anything in the car coz everything is so delicate

The Beetle has always been my dream car. I have wanted it ever since the New Beetle rolled out. I just hope my hopes are not going to be crushed about having a trouble-free car! I bought it about a month back and when driving it back to school, I hit a DEAD deer that was laying on the highway and the radiator burst and the bumper broke. The car had to be towed and there were $2000 in damages. The car is soo low on the ground that I am scared to even park near a curb. When I got the car back a couple of weeks later, the engine check light came on and stayed there for about 200 miles, and then it automatically goes off. The VW dealer I bought it from says it could be a programming error because they had fixed my engine, but GAWD KNOWS, im starting to get upset because I dont want a car that gives me a heart attack with some new problem everytime I switch it on! Other than that....Hopefully, it ll be a good troublefree car for a long time!

LOTS of Headroom - I am 6'2" and can wear a LARGE hat in this car! Fantastic stereo (stock!)system, miles of legroom in front, fast car (about 145 mph), 28 MPG avg. Heated seats. Headlamps EASY to change! Manipulate a locking plastic "key" and headlamp assembly falls right out the front! Car runs real good!

Weakness:

Original Goodyear tires TERRIBLE in wet weather, TOO LOW to ground - can get severe damage if driving over slightest rise in roadway, low profile tires damage easily in potholes, stiff suspension, A/C could be colder, Automatic electric spoiler NEVER worked right if at all, Silver paint on steering wheel is wearing off (40K miles

Fantastic car, LOTS of front legroom, UNBELIEVABLE stereo system (stock!), eye turner!
