i absolutley love this car. it is amazing. especially after having a 1990 mirage. it is fantastic on the highway and i have 100,000 miles on it and it still runs like brand new. this car will go forever. i wouldn't trade it for anything. i love the convertible and how thick it is. the inside is very cute and roomy
Weakness:
i feel that it doesn't have any. my radio works just fine and it's not noisy at all sometimes i feel like its not even on out of 5 stars i give it all five. it's wonderful. i'm very happy Similar Products Used: vw jetta ...1993.. the jetta had a little bit more power but the cabrio is right up with it |

Strength:
I bought this car as an update to the 1986 VW Cabriolet I've had for the last year.. this is my 4th VW and by far my favorite. The interior is much roomier and more comfortable and the controls are very accessible. The cloth top is a nice option, and there is no wind noise with the top up when we drive it, even up to speeds of (gasp!) 80 mph. The power steering makes it very easy to manuever in and out of tight spaces. The clutch pedal is very easy, which is a big plus to someone like me with ankle problems. The top is very easy to put down and up with just one person. And the stereo has worked fantastically, picking up and amplifying radio stations from afar with great ease.
Weakness:
Even with 115hp, this car will not win you any races. However, by having the 5 speed manual transmission, it helps... I absolutely love this car!! It has all the nice perks of a much more expensive European Car, yet is quite affordable. Everything works as it should and works well. Coming from an 80s model Cabriolet, I am disappointed that the engine is so QUIET; I've always enjoyed the sound of the engine and used that to help guage when to shift. The Highline package is a nice way to get all the nice options, and includes alloy wheels, cloth top, and leather interior. It also has cruise control; power windows (with a lockout for those in the backseat, a necessity if any of you have children); power doorlocks; alarm activated when the door is locked (so you can't forget to set it!); digital odometer; tachometer; digital tripometer; easy to read guages; great placement for stick shift; daytime-running lights; fog lights; fold-down seats in the back for extra storage in the trunk; spacesaver spare tire, for more room in the trunk; and even a little extra storage space behind the emergency brake! I love this car. It handles very well, has good pick-up (I have manual) and is the cutest thing on the road. It is very quiet for a convertible and has all the options you could want. I get more comments/compliments on the blue dash lighting...very cool. Put the top down and drive up the coast. It just doesn't get any better.
Weakness:
The only thing is the volume control on the stereo. It is out of whack somehow and goes up when you turn it down...very weird. I would highly recommend this car. It is agile, quick, easy to park, has all the options including side and front airbags, and cute. In the price range you really can't find another convertible that will seat 4. I looked at the Mustang before I bought this one and was completely unimpressed. Seemed cheap by comparison to the Cabrio. Similar Products Used: Had a Jeep Wrangler before this. I loved it but got sick of it after 7 years...noisy, wet and cold. |

The car handles well, and after 60,000 miles is still quiet, and does fantastically in traffic.
Weakness:
The service at VW dealerships is pitiful. I've tried four different dealers in two different states, and have found them to be unhelpful, deceitful and egotistical towards women. The stereo is also so-so, fades in and out, and seems to get poor radio signals. VW Cabrio is my second Volkswagen. I love it, but have to say that I HATE the service at all the dealerships I've ever had to use. The car is fun to drive, and perfect for my long commute. I've had my car for 2 1/2 years, and plan to keep it for a long time. I already have more than 60,000 miles on it. |

I feel that it's a very reliable car & would definitely recommend it for someone who is looking to keep their car for over a few years. If you have a long commute...this is a fun car to be in...lessens the drag of the commute. Roof down & sun on your skin will definitely help the drag of the slow moving traffic.
Weakness:
The sound system could be better, considering it's not a low end car. (This is not to say it is a mediocre system...I just like loud music.) Overall, I am more than satisfied with the car. I've had it just a little over a year now, with zero maintenance problems. The usual oil change & tune up services seem to make the car happy--you have to love that! Similar Products Used: I've owned just a few cars...an older Celica, then a Supra...and most recently, this Cabrio. I would have to say that this Cabrio has given me peace of mind! |

The looks, the built quality, the performance of the tdi engine and fuel economy.very good seats.
Weakness:
It has done 220,000 km without any significant problems. I've paid a nice price for it about 2 years ago. Not a lot of stuff on it when I bought it but I've put on nice wheels, cruise, blaupunkt stereo.I drive this car every day (50,000 km/year) and it's the best car I've ever had and I intent to keep it for some more years.I would recommend this tdi to everyone who drives a lot and doesn't want to be stuck to a boring car Similar Products Used: nothing similar |

Strength:
I love the convertible roof! Love it, love it, love it. I also like the tight turning radius. Makes parking a breeze. A lot of conviencience items for the base model.
Weakness:
Doesn't stay in good working order no matter how well you take care of it. It is constantly in the shop. The car currently has 42,000 miles. I have already had the transmission replaced. One of the power window regulators replaced and I am about to have it replaced again!!! Also, I had to get the vehicle re-aligned at my cost after 10 months which also forced me into buying four new tires due to the misaligned vehicle. Recently, I had to replace the rotors along with the brakes. This not typical of cars under 70,000 miles! Another caution for future Cabrio customers. The seal between the door glass and the roof may get pinched while closing the door(window up). This will cause water leaks and stain your seat if you do not have the leather option!!! It is tough and expensive to get those stains out even with scotch guard. Car is lots of fun, but lots of work. Very solidly built car; German build quality is evident throughout. No squeaks and rattles; amazing for a convertible (I owned a 1990 Chyrsler Le Baron prior to this car; it creaked and groaned over every bump in the road!) Grips the road like it's on rails; a lot of fun to drive. 115hp engine is peppy, but you're not gonna win many races with this car! Overall, the power is more than adequate, even with the automatic transmission. Having a rollbar on this car is a definite plus!
Weakness:
Only two problems: I paid about $22,000 out the door with leather interior and a six-disc CD changer in the trunk. Similar Products Used: There was really no other choice. Where else can you find an economical, safe convertible that will seat 4 people? |

Great handling, excellent steering and brakes, nice styling, superior interior finish, seats are perfect (firm as they should be) and front space is awesome, beats any other car I've ever driven!
Weakness:
Noisy, but expected for a 2.0L 4 cylinder, poor sound system ( for a convertible), not very luxurious for the price. I had a bad experience with Gunther Motors (Broward County, South Florida) and I wouldn't recommend this car or any other VW if purchased from them considering the poor assistance not only personal but also professional given to me and my car. Buying a vehicle is not just a matter of getting a great car, you need to count on the service center just in case you need it (sooner or later you will). Similar Products Used: None |
