Strength:

Handles very well, looks great, the paint is still like new. Good on gas.(not excellent)

Weakness:

Hard to keep the white vynil top in good shape as well as the light interior, sound system is too cheap (made in mexico)and sometimes does not work, engine is noisy and needs some extra HP (those 115 HP are more likely to be ponies), tires wear unevenly, dealers & parts too expensive. I wouldn''t buy this car if I didn''t know a good mechanic. Can not rely on official dealers (Gunther Motors)or VW Depot. They offer OVERPRICED and/or poor service! Also car is overpriced, I would not have bought it for the MSRP. I paid 14k for a two year old car.(somehow reasonable)

This is a 5 year car, 60k miles on it. Has been very dependable, drive it to work everyday, never had a problem excepts for a window regulator problem that was replaced under warranty and a battery issue. I''ve heard so many bad things about the new cabrios, but this one has been excellent. It was assembed in Mexico but most of the parts are from european countries. I don''t know whether the new cabrios are like this (foreign parts + mexican assembly)or fully assembled with mexican parts. Another thing is that it is an adult driven car, even though I''m 30, I''ve always driven it very easily and that may be the reason for being trouble free.

Strength:

The car drives well, and the 2.0 liter engine is great. It shifts well and despite reports to the contrary I find it quite peppy with a manual transmission. Gas mileage is approx 24 city and almost 30 highway.

Weakness:

In the first 30 days the hydraulic pump for the top had to be replaced. The car would occasionally flood with water in the floor between the front and rear (right side) passenger seats. After about 4 times we determined that the a/c drain was clogged and discharging water into this area. The carpets are ruined. A check of the service record, which we were told on purchase was blank, showed this problem reported 3 times by the previous owner without being resolved. The last time was just before the car was traded in. The fuse cover has fallen off so frequently it now sits in my garage. The leather interior trim is pulling away near the windows on both front doors. The rear lock is so unreliable about opening that I keep nothing I need in the trunk. The wind noise with the top up is loud above 20 mph and unbearable at highway speed. We have to drive with one window down approx 1" to diminish this phenomenon. The battery exploded after a drive of approx 2 miles. Replacement cost $400. (VW America later reimbursed this after a nasty letter.) The body trim falls off. Replacement trim comes in only one color and must be painted to match if your car isn''t green. Th

This vehicle was purchased almost two years ago with <18000 mi on the odometer. It has brought me occasional joys but mostly grief in the time I''ve had it. The vehicle now has 35000 miles on it after sitting for 6 months last year for fear of what else might go wrong. I pray someone steals it. It''s too late for me, save yourself.

Strength:

Good looking car, nice styling, good image and the convertible top is fun.

Weakness:

Nothing but consistent repairs (unfortunately, all "wear and tear" items that weren''t under warranty). Very unreliable car. Shoddy work overall. Get your act together VW !!!

Really regretted this purchase. Although the car was fun to drive around town in and had some good styling, it was shoddily put together and at only 34000 miles, nothing major should be going wrong ! Replaced clutch, alternator, paint cracking on front bumper, 2 new batteries in less than 2 years, buttons falling off dash, etc. Also CONVERTIBLE TOPS ARE GLUED TOGETHER !!!!! Can you believe it ? Not a stitch in sight on mine and when it started to split apart, it really split apart (and fast). Buyer beware here !!!!

THIS CAR IS A PIECE OF JUNK I have written so many reviews on sites for this that I am not going into details. Believe me, I have taken this car to the shop time and time again for numerous problems. Some that repeat themselves. The worst was when I found out I had the wrong COMPUTER in my car for the first 6 months I got it. Of course I had taken it in numerous times before they figured it out. This car is dangerous and falls apart in your hands.

Strength:

Obviously...convertible, great gas mileage. It hasn''t been in the shop for anything major (routine maintenance). Very tough little car. I rear-ended a Subaru..I did some serious damage to it...barely a scratch on my Cabrio. This is a fun car...lots of compliments.

Weakness:

The lever to get into the back seat on the driver''s side fell off. Sometimes the lights for the AC flash.

This has been a great car...the lease is up in a year and I am thinking about buying it. I drive in the city quite a bit, and it''s perfect for maneuvering in traffic and getting that parking spot that might be a little too small for someone else. When the weather is nice, you are taking advantage of it even when you are just running errands.

I am just reporting a phony review by: Brian, from Boston He said: -These cars do not hold their value at all.(this is not true, vw are one of the best value holders on the road) -And to top it all off, you can''t even use the cup holders without removing the ash tray. (This is not true, the ash tray has nothing to do with the cup holders) -He companied about the ABS (Sorry brain, 1997 models never had ABS)

Strength:

Gorgeous car, attracts lots of attention and actually a lot of fun to drive, good pick up and go I think

Weakness:

engine problems, things wear out quickly, cheap mats, no cup holder to speak of, trunk is small but I knew that, 2 year warranty is ridiculous for a car that''s broken all the time

I have had this car 11 months. It has been at the dealership at least 12 times this year or more. They keep no parts and every visit requires a second visit. The car is fun to drive when it works, but for a brand new vehicle, this is ridiculous. The service dept. is great, but who needs to know their service dept. that well? Crazy stuff, the windows leak, the soft top is wearing, the fuel pump has been replaced at 3 mos., the engine has made some horrible noises that had to be fixed. You name it, this car has done it. I''m getting ready to get rid of it.

Strength:

I love the way the car handles and ability to weave through the traffic. The radio sound is good (even with the top down). The car is very peppy, and I really think the roll-bar adds a lot of character.

Weakness:

There is more wind noise than I like.

I LOVE my car!! It is so cute and fun to drive. I have the only red one in my area, and I love its uniqueness. My car drives great. I love having a convertible and I''ve never had so much fun on the road. I think this car is wonderful.

Easy handling Parking and driving. fuel economy. Enough pep to have fun on mountain rds. or drives along the beach. no squeaks or rattels at this time.

Weakness:

Trunk space is limited( golf clubs need help). Some maint is a little more complicated than need be(ie: fuel filter and spark plugs

I''ve enjoyed the ride so far. This is a weekend car or around town.Great milage approx 30 mpg avg. I''m a crusier not a racer. No leaks very little wind noise, handling is easy and effortless. Enough power to get on the freeway@ freeway speeds. Easy to care for except for the light cloth interior.Great for couples.
