Weakness:
Will probably not live beyond 10 years. Great car until it gets old. This car has been in the family for a long time now. It has been driven very far a couple of times and no problems developed until 2001. Then it would stall. Every couple of days. Dealer said it was air filter problem, then no idea, then water in the gas. Emptied gas tank put in premium gas... no problems. Then winter comes. Would stall erratically. Went back to the dealer... air filter is dirty. Changed it... haven''t driven it for a while (overseas) so we''ll see when I get back. Has had to replace everything, except the engine. But I guess for the number of years it has given it was worth the very little it cost. A friend told me that Trecels die at 160,000 KM. We''ll see. But can''t live with a car that would just stall like that. Will buy a new car when I get back Similar Products Used: Nissan Sentra (totalled in an ice related incident) |

Good handling, easy to park, good for a student, Toyota...made to take one hell of a beating!
Weakness:
A little on the slow side, especially when more than 300lbs.of passengers are in it. including my self Its a pretty good car, gets me where i need to go, the paint job is still good no rust. This car still works great considering my friend didn''t take much care of it. It was due for alot of matanince,(oil change, front brake pads needed replacing, front right rotor, airfilter)After this it has been running great. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
Light weight! Reasonable acceleration (esp. with mods). Fun handling (again, esp. with mods). Good looks (kind of reminds me of a 3-series BMW in profile). VERY inexpensive to own and maintain.
Weakness:
4-Speed manual transmission could use an extra gear and a shorter-throw shifter. Getting blown around in heavy crosswinds. Interior noise levels are high (if that sort of thing bothers you). Vinyl seats wear out too quickly and feel cheap - replace them with cloth seats from a Paseo for increased comfort. Base model sealed-beam headlamps are awful - replace them with the DX''s composite lamps. My ''94 Tercel is a fun, reliable little car that has responded quite well to performance upgrades. The Tercel is quite enjoyable in stock form, but a few conscientous modifications improve it dramatically. First off, trade in the stock 13" wheel and tire package for some lightweight 15" alloys with 195/50 tires - if you''re bold, you can try 16" or 17" wheels, but you will probably have rubbing inside the wheel wells. Also, lowering springs and high-quality struts + shocks are a worthwhile upgrade. If you''re really serious about handling, you can put on a front anti-sway bar from a Paseo. That''ll have you carving turns, but you may find the car to be too sluggish. That''s okay, just put on an intake and (especially) an exhaust. A high-flow muffler and upsized piping will push power up noticeably while providing some nice sounds. Ditto for a tube-style intake. This is excellent value for your buck - price, mileage, quality and dealer service. I wasn''t always up-to-date on the scheduled service on the car (ok, borderline abuse of the car) yet Toyota stood behind their product, (AFTER warranty expiration)fixed a $4000.00 problem AND gave me a free loaner for the week they had my car. Just try to get one of the Big Three automakers to do that - even during your warranty!!!!
Weakness:
Drives and performs as well as you can expect a small car to - until you get over 200 pounds in the back seat - then it turns into a slug. I love this car! I have owned it for over 8 years with only a couple of problems - which were covered under the warranty. Toyota even replaced my rings, seals, valves and gaskets under warranty well AFTER my warranty expired since the nasty oil problem started during the warranty period. My Tercel has 180 000 kms on her and she still runs and looks like a brand new car - not a speck of rust! It''s been driven all through the United States, to and from California three times and across Canada (Ontario to BC and back)once with no trouble, minimal service and amazing gas mileage. Too bad 1999 was the last model year because I would buy another Tercel after I pass this one on to my daughter in a couple of years. Strength:
1. Handles great 2. Excellent in snow 3. Very cheap and easy to repair 4. Great re-sale value
Weakness:
The only one I can think of is the cup holder that pulls out above the stereo! We have had this car for over 5 years and just recently sold it to a friend of ours. This car has been great! Has over 180,000 miles on it and still runs great! We have spent probably less than $1000 on it since we bought it, which includes new tires (twice) and regular maintenance items such as timing belts, oil changes, etc. Similar Products Used: Ford Escort, Mercury Mystique, Dodge Neon |

Awesome car. Great quality. Good gas milage.
Weakness:
The factory specified tires are not that great. I put on some better rubber (at more than double the price) and the handleing and braking improved dramatically. Just goes to show that good tires are a good investment. Great car!! Runs like a dream. It had 52k miles when i got it. It have put about 20k on it in the last year and a half and i have had no probs. This car has and will take a beating and just keep going. Similar Products Used: None |

Low - gear shifts Very economical Comfortable (front)
Weakness:
Rear suspensions are a little bit lacky 73bhp is a little low, maybe 90bhp would be better. Interior is not very spacious as how it seems and however does not have a very impressive interior design ! I had to modify parts of the dash to make it look better. I am very happy with this car, economical does not need to change gear shifts (low - geared) - Right now I am trying to find a kit !!!! If anyone knows were I can buy one pls just drop me a mail (pref. the Kit is made of plastic not fibre) .. Similar Products Used: n/a |

Quality of materials used, styling and reliability... as all Toyotas I guess.
Weakness:
Breaks, tires (understandable though), little rattles here and there. CANNOT BREAK THIS CAR. I drive it like a Subaru rally car and have done everything possible to it. Nothing has failed. I change my break pads every year though. They skimped a little on the tires. Also, the steering wheel was installed a little offset radially - gives the illusion I''m steering to the right always. And a cable linkage isn''t well tightened making a small rattling noise when I''m stopped at a light - annoying. Similar Products Used: None |
