Strength:

Quick, mine at least. Sounds cool.

Weakness:

You can't beat anyone in a street race.

Tercels rule. My tercel has a 4.5 inch exhaust tip, and other mods. It is so cool. I would suggest buying a Tercel if you want a sweet ride.

Strength:

Good gas mileage Reliable

Weakness:

Takes a long time to pick up speed Not very fast

This is a very reliable car. My husband purchased this vehicle for me in 2000 for $5600. The car had 76,000 miles on it. It now has about 82,000 (I only drive local), but it is a great little car. I have had any problems. I get regular oil changes. This might just be my car, but the check engine light comes on and off but when the car was checked out it passed with a clean bill of health. I put new tires in it and it didn't have the factory sound system in it when I got it.

fun, cheap to drive(gas & insurance),thousand dollar car..in the parking lots, other people have to look out for me now...revenge is sweet!!!!

Weakness:

none yet

just bought this tercel ..106k on it..looks and runs like new..not a lot of power, but,i knew that goin' in...seats are decent, handling good..there is just something crisp and snappy about a car that wieghts less than 2000 lbs. that larger cars can't match..i've got a new f-150 that i paid exactly 30x as much for and its great...but the fun factor of the little tercel gets me drivin' it more than the new truck......

Strength:

Great gas millage few mechanical problems( but keep up with regular maintenance.fluids.air filter.etc) cheap parts surprisingly durable easy to find parking in cities low theft threat

Weakness:

Horrible on tight corners. one head on collision and your OUT.

Bought this car off an 68 year old lady in 1999. As it turned out she drove it from church to the corner store then home. It had 75 000km when I purchased it. I decided to put this "tin can" to the test so my girlfriend and I drove it; in August of 2001, to the Arctic Circle in the northern part of Yukon Territorry. Being the only tercel on the road north of Whitehorse I was a bit apprehensive at first but the little pig made it there and back...and this was with a canoe strapped to its roof! The looks from SUV drivers were priceless..and a gas station attendent 30km south of the arctic circle said he'd never seen one up there before. So without question these little cars are pepper pots! We had no mechanical problems along the way and just recentlly at 123 000km I changed the starter solenoid and water pump. What else can I say??!!

Strength:

durability reliability fuel economy inexpensive

Weakness:

"tin can" feel vinyl seats are torn not very fast the wind blows it around on the highway sometimes

Excellent vehicle. I have driven this car everywhere. It has had a tree fall on it caving the roof in (repaired **had to replace the entire roof), was caught in a flood in New Orleans adventure (came out just fine* luckly nothing leaked through the doors), drove through the mountains of Colorado just fine with 4 guys in it with a fully loaded clamshell on the roof and 4 mountain bikes straped to the trunk. I've really got to say this was the best college vehicle I could have. I have spent nothing on maintenance (expect oil changes, belts, and a broken windshield). In addition with outstanding fuel econmony I've travelled to at least 10 different states and never spent more than $60-$70 on fuel. If your looking for something economical I highly suggest this car.

Strength:

Starting/running/handling, also all other mechanicals well above average. Very good in accident avoidance maneuvers (I get somewhat impatient on 2-lane roads). Even the cloth seats have yet to show a tear. Only now are the rear shocks noisy. Ball bearing held up for 155,000 miles with no maintenance, (then they simultaneously broke down, but what does one expect?)

Weakness:

Not recommended for folks over 5''10" - I''m only 1/2 in. shorter, uncomfortable back seat. Trunk could be larger. Blew sensors at about 165K mi (over $800 in repairs). Driver''s belt doesn''t retract well now, sometimes it hangs out the closed doors.

Has already 182K miles in less than five years, and has performed excellent overall. Still has many original stuff that''s never been broken down such as the alternator and clutch (yes!!). It is a "base" manual-steering and stick shift model with a/c. If you can get a used one with these specs (but not that high mileage), it can beat yet some new cars!! Excellent for people with tight budgets (I am a salaried worker with a mortgage and child support to pay for my son) and high travel demands - over 3,250 mi. per month, much of it job-related, continuously for 55 months!

Model Reviewed: CE

Strength:

Very high quality construction and finishing. Surprisingly comfortable for a compact. Excellent roadholding and comfort. Reliability. Price. Economy. Low insurance.

Weakness:

Could do with a bit more HP and a larger trunk!

We bought this Tercel new for $9500 back in 1996. In six years and 60000 miles, we have had no problems at all. We went to a dealer last week to look into a new car, and found nothing that we would want to replace it with. We ended up putting in a new stereo, and now we have a new Tercel... It can be a little sluggish as regards acceleration, but the handling is awesome, the five speed gear box is very forgiving, and the fuel economy is wonderful compared with many similar cars. As for safety, well, I have been rear-ended by a drunk driver in a VW Jetta. The damage came to about $1000 (a new bumper and some body work), while I suffered no injury at all. The front end of the other driver''s Jetta was trashed, so that must say something about how sturdy this little workhorse is. Comfort is surprisingly good for a compact car, though the CE could do with folding rear seats for better storage. Given oil changes and occasional repairs, I hope and expect that my Tercel will run for another 100000 miles. I have no clue how I could replace it.

Model Reviewed: Tercel CE automatic

Strength:

Always starts, very reliable, easy to drive, especially in city traffic

Weakness:

-a bit under-powered esp. on merging onto a highway -lousy stock speakers and radio -not the most comfortable seats

I really love the Tercel--I''''''''m glad I got it under the wire--''''''''99 is the last model year and I wouldn''''''''t be caught dead in an Echo. It is really reliable in all weather, and is phenomenal on gas. I once drove from Toronto to Detroit, however, and my tush was a-hurtin''''''''. But let''''''''s face it, the Tercel was never really meant to be a long-haul highway car. I drive 33km each way to work every day and the tercel is really the ideal commuter car. I plan to keep it running for many more years--it only has 60,000 km on it after almost 3 years.
