Gains a lot of power at 5500 to 7500 rpms..great handling it really hugs the road well!!! sounds awsome!!

Weakness:

The acceralation is really slow and laggy at first but then it picks up, and you have to put in 92 octan gas or it get real fusy, now i have put in 89 and it is ok so...

I love this car, I am only 16 and I had to pay for some of the car. I am now working my butt off but it is worth it. I have the Spectrical Blue and it turns a lot of heads. I have tinted the windows and put in a system and i got new racing tires, i highly recommend tinting the windows, it gives it a real sporty look!!! I love my car!!!!!!!!

LookZ!!!!Interior is the best. Everything is in reachable range. Power everything except (the antenna).Large trunk space, gas efficient.A lot of compliments, etc..

Weakness:

-BLIND SPOT.. i cannot see a lot of times -PLASTIC INTERIOR ...scratches very easily!!! -LEG ROOM IN BACK:not very comfotable in back. Not ideal for people with long legs. =D heheh -Hard to fit many people in the car. They should lessen the trunk space and make more space in the back -jerks when u press on the gas too much

I am 16 my parents gave me a 2001 celica gt in absolutely red. Ideal for a good looking gas efficient vehicle. Ideal 4 younging not the older drivers. Its been almost a month and a half and I am really enjoing every minute of it. I gotta say it grabs a lot of attention. Its such a head turner. Im in love with the interior and how it is very gas efficient. Yes it grabs a lot of attention including da COPS, blind spots, the plastic interior scratches easily. The orange gauge inside dont really like it. back not too comfortable. But alot of room in front.

Looks, build quality, fuel economoy.

Weakness:

Underpowered engine, small trunk, price (but you get what you pay for), road noise.

Great car. I''ve owned it for over 8 years and it still looks and drives like new. I provide only basic preventive maintenance and feel confident enough to drive it cross-country.

the gears in the 4-speed auto are too tall, but it really moves

I had a `95 Camry beofe I had this car, and swore I''d never own another 4-cyl. The 2.2 in the camry had absolutly no power, but when I drive the 1.8L celica, I had a blast. This car is very reliable, responsive and fun to drive. With the price of fuel, I''m happy to say it runs about 30-32 mpg, and I drive very hard. The sound, feeling and the compliments I get are well worth the money. I''ve done nothing in the form of modifications to this car and can see buying another when it''s time to trade.

nice interior, good ergonomics

Weakness:

not enough power, slow pedal response, lazy "sport" handling. engine too refined and not raw enough.

I must say that i feel sadly disapointed in this car, without the supra in toyotas line up this is the "fastest" car they produce, and needless to say i do not own it, rather for the same price i have obtained a 2002 acura rsx-s which i must say has now proven to me that honda will always dominate. the extra 20 horspower and few ft/lbs of torque really help, and in speed rating the acura really kicks, the celica doesnt even come close, plus in cornering the celica is softer, has more body roll, and unfortunatley is unstable at speeds above 100 mph.

Steering column has adjustments, alot of pickup, and sports car feel. Looks cool, has a good vibe! Doesn't bounce around.

Weakness:

There is alot of electonics on this car, and fuses are all over,I am hoping the relays don't break.

This car looks sporty, and the paint job on it is very good. It holds the road very well, possibly because I had a new factory rebuilt rack put in.
It has larger diamater pipe on the exaust, and I read good comments on the internet before I bought it. I needed reliable transportation, and I weighed the pros and cons and made the right decision.

Model Reviewed: Toyota Celica VVTL-i 1.8 TS (192 hp European Version !)

Strength:

- 192 hp (European version - I wonder if this version is indeed stronger or if this is just a unit conversion issue ? I don't know ...)
- six gears manual: enables you to really drive the car the way you like.
Civilized when necessary (incredible low fuel useage per mile !) and high-speed & high-adrenaline when possible.
- Sound system: from SONY. Includes CD Player + radio + tape. Six loud speakers, two subs on either front door, two normal speakers on either front door, two normal speakers in the rear. Dynamical bass boosting included. If my neighbours are not already unhappy with the loud roaring of my car's engines, the bass boost will make sure they notice my presence :-)
- Handling - it drives as if it was on tracks, no matter what I do with it. A dream !
- Suspension is not has hard as, let's say, in a Porsche GT, but still hard enough to be sporty and to let you feel the road ... to become one with it. And yet it is soft enough to make sure your back won't hurt when you get out of it after a twelve hours drive. An excellent compromise between sportiness and some travel comfort.
- low fuel useage ... when driven in a civilised manner.
- high fuel useage ... when driven at 7000+ rpm. But your thirsty engine will gladly reward you by creating that lovely roaring sound that will send your car to speeds beyond 200 km/h and your adrenaline to insane limits :-)
- the way it looks. Makes everyone's heads turn !
- Lights. The area they cover is IMHO better than in any other car I had so far the pleasure to drive around with. Even in complete darkness you still see where you are going. If that is not enough, fog lights are included. Just add the front fog lights and driving at high speeds in complete darkness is no longer an issue, because the area that gets covered with light is indeed excellent.
- trunk. Pretty big for a sports coupé. So although being rather a fun car for adults who refuse to grow up (just like me) it still has some plus points on the practical side.
- Excellent price/value ratio. You get quite a lot for your money.
- Reliability. This is a Toyota, after all. I honestly don't expect to be seeing the repair guys that often.
- Attracts lots of new "friends" :-)

Weakness:

- BLIND SPOT ! there is a pretty dangerous blind spot towards the rear. e.g. in the city you really have to check twice that there is nobody on your four o'clock position, because you won't be seeing this guy in any of the mirrors. So whenever I want to turn right I have to turn my head around to check that there is nobody on that position. Setting the right mirror so that it will show almost straight to the rear helps a bit, but you're still pretty much blind there. Just never forget about this and you will be fine.
- Almost no visibility to the rear. But so what. Just avoid getting into situations where you would have to drive backwards. It's that easy.
- Attracts cops ! Just watch out. Don't drive too fast within cities or areas where radar traps and cops can be expected.
- The doors are a bit too long. I can't park the car in my garage, because I cannot open the doors wide enough so I could get out of the car at all.
Pretty stupid. I had no such problems with the previous car.

- All your friends get jealous, and you lose 90% of them :-)

This is a rocket !!! Just in case you did not know, but the continental European version has 192 hp (hmm, or maybe it's just a conversion issue between the different kinds of "hp" (British, US, German ...) that
are around ... I honestly don't know ...), which will catapult you into your seat once you get this baby going. Drove it already on the German highways ( N O speed limits there !!!) and on curvy, isolated mountain roads in northern Italy ... THIS CAR ROCKS ! I was duelling Porsche's and Ferrari's with it - OK, as long as the road is straight and has no curves the other guys can use their highly powered engines and drive away anytime because they are faster .... but things look different when you drive on an extremely slim Italian mountain road with lots and lots of turns and curves. Many of the guys I drove against had real troubles keeping their cars on track, their cars would slide, oversteer, understeer, they constantly had to hit the brakes or they would have lost the control over their cars. It's a question of experience I think - a professional race driver won't have such troubles no matter what he drives. But you and me are no professional drivers, right ? We are civilians who want to have fun with our cars, right ? And fun I have !!! Driving a 192 hp Celica at high speeds (I am talking about 100+ km/h here, that's 60+ US mph as far as I remember ...) through narrow curves is not madness, it's sheer driving pleasure. It's like riding a train, the car behaves as if it was on tracks.
So, if you are a professional driver you likely already got your Porsche, Lamborghini or McLaren F1 anyway and I wonder why you even bother to read this ... but if you are like me an "untrained" civilian who would like to push things a bit to the limit without having to re-learn driving again, then this car is for you. Granted, it takes some time to get used to the manual six gears (European cars usually have 5 plus one backwards - we Europeans are no fans of automatics, they are very unpopular here),
because the sixth gear is now there where you'd normally expect the reverse. The reverse is now on the very far left, next to the first.
It took me a week to get used to this. When you hit the reverse you will hear a warning beep sound - I found this helped me getting used to it.
But after a week or so, those six gears become second nature and you
wonder how you could have ever lived without them, because when you chase that BMW on the highway the necessity for a sixth gear seems so obvious :-)
Actually I should say: "When you get chased by that BMW ..." Usually the other guys will just see the rear end of my car. ;-)

This is the best sporty car you can buy for the money !

FUN TO DRIVE!
Great handling
Very response yet smooth
Fast when you need it to be
Great engine sound
Excellent interior design
Awesome seats!
Smooth tranny
Very good stock stereo
Relatively spacious trunk
Superb gas mileage, for those that care

Weakness:

Poor visibility out the rear
non-telescoping antenna
Stock cd player skips a lot especially over bumps (mebbe it's just mine?)
cop attracting car
new engine, not too many aftermarket products available
annoying reverse beep

I was really in a bind when it came to choosing between the Impreza and the Celica, that is until I drove them both. I did a lot of research into both cars but after sitting inside the celica's cockpit and takin' it for a run, my mind was set. The celica is beautifully designed inside and out, out handles anything else I drove, is the quickest, and overall the best built car. Although the lightest of the bunch that I have test driven, it feels the most solid. I recently took a trip up to San Francisco going up to 100 on the freeway and the car felt extremely stable and is confidence-inspiring. This car just gave me the biggest grin after driving it :)

I've put over 1500 miles in the first week since I've owned the car and am loving every minute of it. This is a great driver's car and rewards those who know how to drive it. One word of advice if you do buy a Celica, GET THE SIX SPEED transmission. I would have to say that this is the best car that I've ever owned.

Strength:

This baby moves, for a four cyclinder engine, it really gets going. It handles like a dream and I get approving looks at the time from fellow drivers. It picks up better than an Eclipse, which was a similar car in the price range and moves like a sports car unlike older Celicas.

Weakness:

There's a nasty blind spot looking out the rear windows and the spoiler tends to obscure the view partially of cars, but that's not serious. They need bigger back windows and the lower torque needs to be tweaked higher, it takes an extra second before the car really kicks in.

I paid $19,000 and I got a sunroof, ABS, power windows/locks and fog lights. All in all a pretty good deal a fully loaded GT-S will probably run you about $24,000, which was out of my price range.

ummmm the way it can handle a curve the accerlation and the top end speed of the car. It can stop on a dime. It makes the driver feel like they are driving a jet

Weakness:

No leg room in the back, too much trunk area for a sports car, it just gives it more weight that it could do without.

I really do like the ride, I think it is about time that toyota made a sporty car besides the supra. I think that there will be a lot of change that will be able to made in the future. AS soon as aftermarket parts become available. When i bought the car i was satisfied as soon as i hit the gas.
