Strength:

Top end acceleration is awsome, handling like a ferrari. One of the sweetest looking rides, great gas mileage. loved the car. faster than most in that price range.

Weakness:

Major tranny problem. Apparently the 2nd gear lock out failed and caused me to blow my engine 3 weeks after purchasing. I have also heard of this happening to other people. I wish Toyota would look into this problem a little closer, my estimated damages from 8-$10,000 to repair. Luckily warranty is covering it, but just this once. How many cars have you driven that will go from 3rd to 2nd, instead of 4th when 3rd gear is practically red lined. Be careful shifting to quikly.

I would reccommend this car to everyone one but would caution them of my problem.

Strength:

If you are looking for a car worth every cent that you spend, the Celica GT is the car to get. The cars exterior alone is worth the coin you put down. I've never gotten more head turns before on the street and highways. The 140 horses that come on this baby is more than adequate for most buyers since it feels like it has more. It's very quite and has that great whinning sound when you rev it up. If you have the change and want to brag a little more, go for the GTS. However, I guarantee you that you the questions you'll get with the GT will more than tired you out! You know what the exterior looks like (love those headlights). The interior is well laid out and the front bucket seats are oh soooo comfy. Instruments are easy to see and read and everything is positioned where it should be within easy reach. No glances needed to find the controls once you get used to them. Steering is very nice anc crisp. No need to fight the turns cause this car just hugs the road and goes. Although some have said that this cars' cabin noise is very noticable, I have no problems with it. I've driven this car on a couple of 1000mile trips and have no complaints about noise or fatigue. Its a wonderful little machine to drive.

Weakness:

Virtually none with the exception of blind side spots when reversing. You'll have to take it easy and make sure you check both sides turning your head before hitting the pedal. The coffee cup holders are in the wrong spot. It would have been better for the designers to use the space for a CD changer or arm rest and put in a pop out cupholder on top of the climate controls or within the same vacinity. Who really wants to be drinking while driving in the car anyways.

Looking for a car that makes you want to drive every chance you get? Want a car that will turn heads? Want reliable engineering? Buy the Celica whether you're a hard driver or a cruiser. Exciting times with an exciting car.

Strength:

The High Lift cams that engage after 6000rpms and push you back into your seat. And almost everything else about this car.

Weakness:

The 4-speed sportshift! The computer is very smart and learns the little intricacies of your driving, but an automatic tranny saps the car of torque and you can't shift and stay in the powerband. Get the 6-speed!

Ok. If you want comfort, luxury, this car has all of the above. And a very nice stereo system. 400+miles per tank. Crazy. It is VERY fun to drive.

Note: the car is loud at high RPMs and is aimed at younger buyers. not for the faint of heart!

If you want performance, you can do 0-60 in 6.5 seconds, and run the 1/4 mile in 14.8 or 14.9 seconds on a totally STOCK GT-S 6-speed on stock tires. To exact maximum performance, slip the clutch gently at 4500rpm (on a track, lower on the street), as soon as the tires grip hold, slam the gas down. Shift hard and fast well into redline at 8200rpms (fuel cut off is 8300, get used to it, you'll be hitting it a lot at first) and you'll drop the tach to well within the powerband (over 6000rpms) and keep pulling all the way to it's top speed which seems to be around 145mph though some have gotten it to just under 150 going downhill with a tail wind and all that jazz. All this meaning? It's great as a sports car, handles better than most other cars, brakes better, looks better, is more comfortable, and is not too slow at all in a straight line. 0-60 in 6.5 for a 180hp car is amazing.

Forgot to mention. This thing gets more looks then a Ferrari! Though not as much anymore since by now, after flagging down everyone that drives by, everybody knows about the new Toyota Celica.

Similar Products Used:

2000 Eclipse, 2000 Prelude, 2000 Mustang, 2000 Integra R...It's faster than all but the ITR and the Mustang in a straight line. It's got a faster slalom time than the ITR and is like a tenth of a second (if even that) slower which is due to the 10hp difference and the Mustang GT is generally faster in a straight line, but ONLY in a straight line.

I drove home a '01 GT last night and THIS CAR IS TOP QUALITY. Interior is so beautiful, when u enter it, u feel like its a $50 K sports car. Very nice stereo. Very nice seats. Very nice acceleration ( although i'm thinking of modifiying it a little bit for better 0-60 )
Its a TOYOTA. it has a very high resale value and very easy to sell. but you are not gonna want to sell it once u drive it.
TRUNK is huge!!..rear seats are pretty good for a sports car, your friends can sit comfortably if they are not 6' +
GAS mileage is unbelievable. u ll get more than 400 CITY miles..on the highway, its scary! :)
Exterior is THE best, both the front and rear end. interior is A jet cockpit.the design and the controls are good quality. the plastic used could be better but hey, this is not a BMW..u still have to add about $15K for that
BEST IN ITS CLASS

Weakness:

standard equipment is ridiculous..not even power windows? come on guys!!

i paid $20.5 with all the toys and taxes (sunroof, alloys, upgrade) and its really worth it. I LOVE this car. its perfect for especially young people who wants a top quality, comfy, fast, attractive sports car with THE best resale value. you are not gonna lose money on this car like you would on a Mitsubishi..u should think about that too becuz in 2 years, you dont wanna lose 50% of the money u paid.
Buy Celica, you are gonna regret.again, BEST IN ITS CLASS

Honda Prelude==> INTERIOR SUCKS..very expensive..doesnt drive like a 200 HP car
VW Golf/Jetta==> they are not even sports cars.if u are above 30 or married, they are perfect German quality cars..but the design is nothing close to the new Celica
Honda Civic: i dunno, its a civic, it just doesnt make sense..add couple more thousand and drive a special car. there is NOTHING special about a civic.

Strength:

Ok, the bottom line is that this car is a land rocket. It has Porsche-like handling and simply the best overall road "feel" of any car that I have ever driven. Straight-line acceleration is adequate with all the high revving favor of an Indy car. This car is fun to drive!!! In addition, it has the aggressive styling and interior of any supercar.

Weakness:

First, you have to learn how to drive this car fast. This is not your typical Firebird that you just punch and go. This car need to finessed to achieve maximum performance. The 6-speed is outstanding once you understand the animal.

The reason that I am probably going to sell my Celica as soon as I get right-side up on the loan is the failing not of the performance of the car, but rather the performance of Toyota. This car was billed and performs as the pride of Toyota. I have been to the dealership repeatedly(12 times) over the last year for all sorts of problems(resonance problem @3500 rpm=very annoying, splash guard falling off, door hinge breaking...). Never once was the solution easy. If it wasn't an excuse about why they couldn't fix the problem, they were trying to convince me that there was nothing wrong with the car. The most blatant example and what convinced me to sell me car was the "check engine" light. On occasion, the check engine light would come on (anybody having this problem?). I took it in the first time and was told that it was a factory defect and that Toyota was working on a solution. Bottom line is there is nothing wrong. Everytime that I took the car to the dealership they gave me a different reason why the light was coming on. I am tired of it. I expected the legendary Toyota craftmenship and quality assurance. Instead, I got the typical dealership runaround. I would not recommend this car until Toyota irons out some more of the wrinkles. Your money could probably be better spent somewhere else.

Strength:

Exterior Design - The best damn looking car for the new Millenium. Sharp headlights, nice side and back design.
Interior Deisgn - A great combination of a mean sporty looking car with a touch of being cozy.
The front seats just hold your body like a big hand to protect your back.
Futuristic-jet cockpit design.
Engine - Great powerful engine...It can easily do some "burning rubber" on it without any engine modification. Its born wild.
Handling - Ever since I got this car, sharp curves are my favorite...doing a 70+ on the junction of OR-217 and highway 26 is the best!!! :)

Weakness:

Well, a front grill would be a nice. I hope Toyota or TRD USA can come up with an aftermarket front grill ASAP because Grill Craft doesn't. Another thing is, a power antenna should be a standard.

I would defenitely recommend this to anyone who has a passion for speed and great handling...

Where to start? Looks - like a bullet some people have told me, very new age. Should stay in style (or should I say the edge of style) for quite some time. There's nothing like 16" wheels on a little bitty car. The spoiler looks great. Take a walk around the car but watch out not to drool too much.
Power - 180 horses? Throw yourself back into the seats at 6 grand? What else need I say? 6 speed stick? Even better... (worth it for novelty alone: "You have 6 gears?!?!?")
Comfort - Huh? Its very comfy for a sports car. Driving position is comfy and easy to control from. Seats are very supportive. Back seats are even roomy for such a small car.
Handling - Grand. Loves tight twisty roads and high RPM's.
Other stuff - I get looks everywhere I drive. The headlights - they don't leave any nasty "crowning" like normal lights - just a solid light. Driving lights are way nice to have. There's much more... take a spin!
Impressions - From the average Joe to the CEO, everybody likes my car!

Weakness:

The attraction... car's been vandalized once...
I've been driving responsibly as to not attract the cops...
Low end power isn't as impressive as the high end power.
The spoiler should be stock on EVERY celica sold...
Rearward visibility is poor. The spoiler doesn't help...
Reverse beeps (c'mon, its not that easy to mistake for first...)

I would reccomend this car highly. Take a spin and you'll find out why. Show it to your friends and co-workers and family and you'll find out why.
If you're looking for a sporty car to zip to work and back and to impress lots of people, then its definetly for you. If you commute on a tight twisty road or could to avoid traffic, you'll love it.

If you're looking for a people mover, perhaps you should go look elsewhere.

Note: Bargain as much as possible on this car - its somewhat hard to because there aren't too many of them and they go quick (I bought mine the day it showed up on a fluke dealer trade). We have a good relationship with our Toyota dealership... otherwise would have been almost 25k.

Strength:

This car is very fun to drive. The manual transmission is a must. Truly a sports car. I test drove a lot of cars and nothing compared. The price is also very right. The engine is absolutely incredible. The higher the RPM's the more pull it has. Have beaten many cars off the line. As far as top speed, I have gotten to about 130. Could have definitely gotten faster but it was a windy day and feltthe car starting to get a little loose. The car is very light. Also has incredible gas mileage.

Weakness:

Blind spots - but you do get used to them and learn to cope. The inside is a little cheesy.

I would recommend this car to anyone who wants a fairly inexpensive car with a great engine and great looks. Very few cars can compete with the speed and handling. And the gas mileage is great.

Similar Products Used:

2000 Mustang - Mustang was a little faster but did not even compare in the handling. 2000 Accord - Celica blew it away. 2000 Eclipse - Once again the celica was faster and better handling. 2000 Couger - The cougar engine sounded horrible at high RPM's. I was afraid it was going to explode. Once again no comparisson.

Model Reviewed: Celica GT-S 6 spd

Strength:

First off the quality is top notch. The styling is not a rehash of an earlier model. Gas mileage, sure you can buy a 2001 Mustang and go faster, but with poor gas mileage, higher insurance, and reliablity as a concern. With the Celica you can go a second slower to 60 and a second and a half slower on the 1/4 mile. To me it is worth a second here and there. If you are just worried about the 1/4 mile, then go buy a nice used Z28 and add a supercharger. This is not a drag car, it is a sports car. It has a little of each catagory, speed, handling, and braking.

Braking and handling are it's greatest strengths. This car is a blast to drive. You have to try it out on a test drive and see how fun it is to drive. There is much more to this car than just track times and the 1/4 mile.

Updated interior that does not use parts recycled from 1980. Try to buy an American car with style like the Celica has. You will not find one.

Weakness:

The interior could be more scratch resistant. A mesh grill to protect the radiator would be nice. But, over all look at the competition's weaknesses, then the Celica's weaknesses look very small indeed.

Like I said the Celica is not a drag car. It has so much potential in the aftermarket. It is pretty quick for what it is. As far as handling and braking, only a Type R can match it for the money. But, with a Type R you have to sit in a car that has a harsh ride, is loud, and lacks amenities.

Similar Products Used:

I test drove a few cars, before I bought the Celica.

1. Z28 = Fastest of the bunch. The most poorly built car of the bunch as well. The vehicle handles okay, but is too big to be nimble. This is the year 2000? Where is the independant rear suspension? The interior controls look like Playskool designed them. Fast, fast, fast.

Mustang = Engine was nice. Handling to me more user friendly than the Z28. No IRS. High insurance. Really nothing more than a rehash of a 1993 Mustang with 260 hp. Still a faster car than the Celica. As far as looks, it beats the Z28. Not a bad car at all. Just reading stories of leaking engines, makes me sway from Ford. Still not a bad car if you want to go fast in a straight line and have a usable back seat.

Prelude = Where is the 200 hp? That was what my wife said. The handling was first rate. The dash must have been pulled out of a 1986 Accord. Still a nice car, if you look at the available mods. But this is a very dated looking model.

Any other American cars for the price are not worth considering.

looks- very eye-catching! Very aggressive design. It's even more meaner looking than it's big bro, the Supra.
Style- the ergonomics is quite nice inside.
Price- very reasonable considering it's a sports car.

Weakness:

Cheap plastics used. Some blind spots. For a sports car it lacks some power, add a turbo unit and that'll be fixed. A little crampy but hey, it's a sports car not a sedan!

I had a great summer vacation when I drove this car. The Celica is the poor man's sports car. Reasonably priced and looks great. Definetly worth the buck but I'm willing to pay a little more so that they'll add some additional power under the hood and use better materials for their interior.

Supra- a steriod fed Celica minus the cornering ability and double it's price and weight.
Mitusbishi 3000GT- fast but bulky and pricey.
Almost all of these cars(excluding the RX) are only fast on a straight road.
