Strength:

Strong reliable engine

Weakness:

Road and air noise, lots of creaks. Electrical Short somewhere? Struts hard to replace

The car is awsome. Got the car with 160,000 miles. Put an oil change in it and it was ready to go. Still have factory speakers in rear sound fine. Despite a poor aftermarket paint job, the car is in good workign order. Be careful of the lower stearing arms, bushings need to be replaced at 100,000 miles, if not, the car wont hold an alignment and will tear up tires. Runs best on Unleaded Plus (89 octaine) with gum cleaner in the tank with every oil change. Keep the fluids full and the car will outlive you. Have fun. Be Safe.

Strength:

- Very spunky for a 4 cylinder
- The interior cradles its passangers.
- Great quality made car.
- Hugs the road.
- Great fuel economy

Weakness:

- Limited visability
- Cop magnet
- Limited rear seat room.
- Doesn't hold the road very well with just a little snow.
- Limited head room.

For all the 2000 model owners, Toyota did get rid of the reverse warning beep, and I've heard this car was destined for problems with the CD player skipping, but I've had no such problem as of yet. This car begs to be driven fast!!!!! I really don't know what the right hand lane on the highway is for anymore. This car is totally fun to drive, my biggest complaint is teenage boys wanting to race me these days.

Strength:

-Speed. Very lively.
-Interior is awesome. Sleek is the word.
-Great stock stereo (but removed any way).
-Great accoustics for aftermartket stereo.
-Exterior design (as we all know)
-Smooth ride. But doesn't seem as agressive as it should.
-4 cup holders.
-Auto open/close sun roof.
-Tires grip like a mofo.

Weakness:

-The front two cup holders are hard to use on the standard tranny version.
-I hate turning the air temperature knob on climate controls.
-When driving hard, be careful shifting to 2nd from 1st on this 6 speed. The reverse gate allows for some miss-firing. Practice a lot if you arent familiar with the transmission.
-Had a seal leak somewhere in the drivers side headlight allowing water to get in a build up condensation. Had to get it replaced (warranty). But looks like it might happen again. I'd like to know if this happens on others.
-Tires grip like a mofo for about the first thousand miles. Then they turn into normal tires that need to be rotated. Then get that temporary grip back again.

Great car. Just learn how to drive it!

-2000 Honda Prelude. Didn't like the interior. Looks too old. Plus the car is too heavy.

the car has style

Weakness:

little torque, little horsepower....this car is not a sports car. Don't get me wrong, it can be fun, but even v6 mustangs beat me off the line

If you like the looks of small sporty cars then this is the one for you, but if you are looking for a car that is truely fun to drive look elsewhere. There is no mistaking it for a sports care when you try to race from a stop light.

Strength:

I think some of the strengths are the design of the car. The body style just dices right throught the wind going around sharp curves. I live in rural area of NC thats has many different types of curves and very easy to go around them with this car. The Speed of this car is very good for a 4-cylinder. It's not that fast coming off the line but trust me it makes up for in long Run. Also the car is very low maintance. I bought the car for $1,200 with a rebuilt engine. the only work I had to do was get a new paint job,new tires, new muffler, and rack and pinion all this for about $2,000 but it's worth it.

Weakness:

The only problem I have had with this cars is the heat. After taking it to everyone around town they finally told me in was the computer. I couldn't believe this car being an 86" had an computer in it!!!

I love my car, I love any Toyota Celica that I see on the road. I think it's the best import car in the world. I would suggest this car to anyone that whats a sportscar but dosen't what to pay the price of a sportscar.

Model Reviewed: GT Convertible

Strength:

Excellent build quality. Beautifully sculptured body. Unique yet ergonomic interior made with with top quality material (should've been sold as a Lexus). Sublime shifter. Sticks to the ground like it's on rail. Great steering feel. Great gas mileage. After 2-1/2 year I still don't know what cowl shake is. Exclusivity because very few were made.

Weakness:

Weak engine not helped by extra weight of the convertible top. Cup holders interfere with shifting. Noisy, but then it's a convertible.

This car has got one of the most unique interior of any car I've ever seen. Love the cockpit style dash and console. All plastic surfaces are either soft-touch or painted with flat black paint. Every swith and button have that quality feel. Nothing rattles or shakes even when the car goes triple digit. Shifter throw is a little long, but you can always tell which gear it's in. Excellent feel - you can almost feel the gears engage. Clutch take up is perfect. Steering is very communicative. Engine is uninspired but it never sounds harsh when revved. The car would've been perfect with a V-6. As is this is more a personal sporty coupe than a sports car. This car never sold well because of its cost. But once you sit inside you know where the money went. It is unbelievable a version of this convertible was ever available with a 1.8L engine. The standard 2.2L is barely adequate to lug the convertible top around.
Despite the lack of power, I love driving this car.. cruising with the top down is down right therapeutic. I will probably keep this car forever. Or until BMW improves the interior of their 3 series convertibles.

Model Reviewed: Celica GT-S

Strength:

-Sportbike-like revving
-VVTL-i system
-Top end power
-Handles like on rails
-Solid 6-speed tranny
-Responds well to aftermarket modifications
-Great gas mileage (33 mpg observed)
-Looks great, inside and out
-Comfortable, grippy seats and top-notch ergonomics
-Good performance
-Lightest car in sport coupe class
-Light, smooth clutch

Weakness:

-Steering and braking feels a bit muted at times
-Interior plastic scratches with seatbelt
-CD player occasionally skips
-Sunshade slides back a bit with hard acceleration
-Low end torque a little low, but is negated with a clutch-slip launch
-People fight over who sits shotgun

You don't just drive this car, you experience it. The Celica GT-S has proven to me that cars just aren't for getting to point A to point B, but from point A to points C,D,E,F,etc. then to point B with a SMILE on my face. I have often found myself leaving for work a good 20 minutes earlier to carve up a twisty road or at a deserted country road practicing a perfect launch. I've never doubted my purchase of this car.

Note: the "falling out of VVTL-i during shifts" is BS by the way. An expericenced marginal driver (like myself) can do this easily.

Strength:

Looks.....Real Head Turner
Performance.....Accelerations OK, Cornering is spot on.

Weakness:

Gives a small lag in power deliver when starting from a standstill.
Torque could be "ummped"

Anyone living in Australia. if you want somthing thats got everything then there is only one choice. get the celica. looks are great compared to other cars. turns heads......damn there gonna break thier necks looking at this thing. car has performance. VVTL-i kicks in and gives a nice feeling "WHAM" at 6000rpm. cornering is probably the best performance charateristic. spot on. WRX exists in every corner. Type R is getting too old. 200SX looks el'cheapo. get somthing with class ladies and gentlemen.
"Cruz'alica".....all the way.

Similar Products Used:

WRX - this car just shows performance, over rated ugly. New model looks like a corrola on steriods.
200SX - not much change in looks from the old model. power seems to be improved. probably the closest competitor.
Integra Type R - once again a remake of a existing low end (sports?) car. probably quicker 0-100km/ph. but if anyone driving a Type R looks in thier rearview, they just might find a screaming Celica about to rip in in half.

Strength:

You gotta love this car. That VVT-i KICK u get when u rev it up beyond 7400 makes it a lotta fun 2 drive. I also like it's looks, the one's it got, and the one's I get whenever I drive it around. For a low end sports car, it sure got a rad design.

Weakness:

The stupid advertising from Toyota if u ask me. I just hate the ketchup bottle ad. But seriously, the location of the R shift feels weird. I keep shifting into 6th, expecting it to go backwards. Sometimes I will also mix-up the 1st with the reverse, and maybe, just maybe - I'll hear it beeping. The Reverse Beep doesn't do anything 4 me. (Not when u're blasting rave tunes over the 8 speaker system :-).

Needs a few more horses. I'd paid a few more G's just to be able to crank it beyond 133 MPH. Maybe air pressure/altitude has something to do with it?Some PPL here say they got 'em to do beyond 140, but I'll remain a skeptic 'till I see it done safely, and NOT WITH MINE.
-I'm afraid of revving it beyond 7900 rpms (the warranty won't cover a blown engine here)...
Expect your gas gauge to drop like a brick when u rev it up. Well, DO-OH!
Won't feel as much the VVTi kick on 2nd and 3rd shifts. Forget it on 6th.
Blew a tire and dented the rim on a small pot hole. Be carefull where u drive it.
Destination charges to the island are ridiculous.
Finally- AVOID THE LEATHER, or park indoors. Mine's gone all wrinkled, probably the sun.

I downright like the car. Even when I paid much more than most guys here did. (Destination charges). It's no Acura NSX (best I've driven), but it's a reliable little car. Add *DIFFERENT* nice looks.

Overall, u won't see many cars able to take on ur 00 Celica GTS on the street. Much less on 4L's under the $30K mark. Whoever says they can take a Lexus GSR, a Type R ACURA, or any Porshe in this car is giving u a bunch of BS.

Shame about the SUPRA, I hear it will be labeled as a Lexus now, and ticketed like one. Someone check those Munroney labels out there and tell me plz.

Similar Products Used:

ACURA NSX- Low end exotic, but almost a 200 mph car. Don't embarrass yourself. Forget racing it.
Honda Accord EX V6 99 w/out cutoff- Bulky, but on a long straight, don't expect the Celica to win.
Camry V6 98 - Cutoff at 124 MPH. Suspension tends to float. Not a match for my GTS.
ACURA RS 99 - Needs a good driver 2 be a match.
I've street raced against the following:
Civic Si EX 98- Good lite car (If u pump it up). Superior handling. Not faster than the GTS though... :)))
Celica GT 2000 -NOT A CHANCE-. Sorry guys, u should've coughed up those few extra bucks...
Eclipse GT yy?- Chalk up another one for me. Get a 3000GT and we'll see ;-)
Mirage Technica yr?- Did he really expect to win? Very sore loser. Definitely a poor guy's car.
Hyundai Tiburon 2000? Worse. A poor 'hood's car. That guy was seriously nuts. He had to jump all red lights just 2 see me go by him like the Energizer Rabbit. I wonder if he made it home in one piece? More so, U CAN'T EVER FIND A COP WHEN U NEED ONE.
