Strength:
Torquey 4 cylinder, matches some 6 cylinder engines. Throaty engine noise. My wife says the car "growls."
Weakness:
The Legacy has limited performance upgrades because all the attention is on the WRX. Thank goodness there is a solution. http://www.cobbtuning.com A naturally aspirated Legacy with over 200 hp is possible. Cheesy cup holder blocks stock cassette radio, which is poor since any car in the 24k range new should not have a cassette deck. (fixing this immediately). Being married and without kids for the last 8 years allowed me the luxury to own a 2 seat sports car like the 3rd Generation RX-7. Loved the car, but entirely useless in the snow and even poor rain conditions. We're finally thinking about family and I wanted nothing to do with SUV's. The WRX is a great car but the back seats are poor. The Legacy platform is roomy inside, even more roomy than my old '88 Camry. The trunk is huge. Performance is robust. I have the GT 2.5 sedan and it is sporty looking. The hood scoop draws good looks and the sedan is lower and has a more aggressive tire setup. I've driven the GT automatic, GT Wagon and the outback as well for comparison. If you want a sporty alternative, I recommend the 5 speed GT for the best engine performance. The suspension is Firm without being harsh (I prefer it a little firmer). Drove the car a little aggressive in the rain, I was surprised at how surefooted the vehicle was. 0-40 acceleration is very good. Freeway passing is not as good, but I hope to fix this soon. I'm very happy with my purchase and look forward to upgrading the performance of the car. The GT wagon drove nice, but the extra weight really drags the car down. Unless the room is abs |

Strength:
Ride, all weather traction, quiet interior, great stereo, slot car handling, unique look, decent warranty, dealer
Weakness:
Engine could use more power especially when the AC is on. Usual Subaru issues: undercoating on the exhaust so-so gas mileage This is my second Superdoo. My first, a 98 Outback, was a disaster. A problem transmission that the dealer just couldn't seem to fix was the biggest issue. I won't go in to the rest of it here. I read that 98 was not a good year anyway. I wanted to give Subaru another chance since I know that they have a good product. I bought a 2003 2.5 GT. Black pearl/grey leather with all the bells and whistles. What a great car. The dealership was fantastic. Our salesman, was very friendly and helpful. They gave me a great price on my trade and really worked with me on the price of the car. Their finance department actually stopped me in the parking lot after we signed the paperwork because they were able to get me a better rate on my loan. That's customer service. Strength:
Acceleration has been fine with me; freeway cornering on exits at 65-70 has been outstanding; comfortable ride (I do lots of driving); small car with a midsize feel inside; I had the sedan model with a spoiler which gives it somewhat of a more sportier look.
Weakness:
Engine vibrates when first started up (about first 3-5 min of driving); dash lights have been out ever since I owned it; interior ceiling light can't decide how often it chooses to operate; fuel relay has been fixed twice and still reverts back to not working; have had one or two major repairs in the 2.5 yars I've owned it (but does have 123k miles now). Suburu may not be the most stylish car on the road or the fastest, but the reliability and apparently love affair people have with this manufacturer is unsurpassed. In the state of Washington, about every 10th car on the road is some model of a sub. Northwesterners have a love affair with Suburu. I personally know 5 people who own wagons (I'm the only one of the group with a sedan)and most of these are at least 10 yrs old! Initially, I felt I paid too much for my sedan (it was 4 yrs old and 68k miles on it) and was very disappointed at first that I had bought it without any investigating (someone had recommened it); it has proven to be very reliable and yes, I do feel safe in it. Since I do alot of driving for my job, I needed a car I could be rough on and it would "keep on ticking"! Initially I bought it for the AWD (for skiiing since I'd had it with putting on chains); and since I don't seem to drive to the mountains anymore, the handling on the wet streets we get in Seattle frequently has given me a new respect for this car. Would I buy another Sub? I have initailly thought about purchasing a VW Passat next year, but after reading comparable reviews online for both vehicles, the Sub has a higher rating overall and much fewer complaints from owners when it comes to servicing. Due to my line of work, I'd like something not any larger but somewhat more luxury looking. A great vehicle if you're practical about the cars in your life. Overall it's been good to me; I suppose I could have done a lot worse! Similar Products Used: 1993 toyota camry sedan |

Strength:
Reliability, traction, Japanese electronics (stay away from german electr.)
Weakness:
Sheet metal for corrosion, alternator, front universal joint boots. AWD is the answer. Would you think of braking with only 2 wheels? What you get for the price: 4 disks, ABS, 4 wheel independant suspension, good seats with lumbar support. |

Strength:
AWD, Strong Engine, The best handling I've ever felt on a mid-sized sedan, The looks, the leather, just about everything.
Weakness:
I dont drink in the car but the cupholders could be a pain. I have driven Accords and Altimas and Camrys but none of them even come close to the Legacy. The powerful 2.5 liter engine and the perfect handling of the AWD lets this car leave its competition far behind. Very practical, very sporty and very luxorious. Love it. Strength:
Good value, reliable Nice ride & handling Plenty of standard features even in the L model
Weakness:
Fit & finish not as high quality as Honda & Toyota Front passenger seatbelt locks too easily, keeping the passenger from leaning forward (hopefully this is just ours) After a year of driving this wagon, I can say that I'm really happy with the purchase. I bought it so that we could retire our well-used '87 Camry (with 220K mi.), and initially we shopped for another Camry or an Accord to replace it. However, with our second child on the way, we wanted our primary car to offer more cargo space. A wagon seemed best since I refuse to drive a minivan. Our top picks were the Passat wagon & the Legacy, but the Passat was never much of a contender due to its weaker reliability ratings and its higher price. Even the Subaru was at the top of our price range, so we got one used with only 18K miles on it (plus it has keyless entry, AT & CD!). We've been really happy with it. Nothing but oil changes so far, and we're near the 30K maintenance soon. The car has a fair bit of zip in the engine & MPG is acceptable, though not great. The ride & handling fall somewhere between the Accord & Camry - the Accord tends to feel tight & bouncier, the Camry softer & more big-car-like. The Legacy seems just right - it handles reasonably well and the road ride isn't too soft. After buying it I drove it back home on the highway through a torrential thunderstorm. The AWD was spectacular - I passed most other cars which had to pull over. The Legacy never slipped in the slightest. Similar Products Used: 1987 Camry |

Strength:
Sharp looking, nice extras, good in snow, just enough room for everything you would need, and holds up well.
Weakness:
Could use a V-6, Parts cost alot, timeing belt and spark plugs are a pain to change, and Could be a little better on gas. I come from a family that has only subarus. I love the way it looks and drives. It could use a V-6. The 5 speed is nice too. It has good toys to go with it and I live where I have to have AWD and it has never let me down. |

Strength:
Dependable engine! Drives like a dream.
Weakness:
power windows, and seatbelt all died. Costs about $300 per window to fix and above $400 per seat belt. Also the locks have gotten plenty loose and the back hatch handle rusted making opening and closing the hatch difficult. I bought this car used in May of 1999 with 150,000 miles on it. The first thing I did with it was drive across country, and it was awesome to have a dependable car doing that. It has now been three years 75,000 miles. Currently the odometer reads 250,000 miles! And she is still ticking. I commute 90 miles a day in her and at this time I feel more than comfortable that she will get me back and forth to work. Similar Products Used: none. |

Strength:
Many standard features including duel sunroof. Handling is very good and it is fun to drive. Bigger cargo area than it looks. Great styling (subjective) Generous interior rooms.
Weakness:
Noisy engine. Need more power even though I don''t feel underpowered either. Brake is the worst thing about this car. Consider gettin a new brake line. Some parts are easily taken apart..but also easily put back in. Audio control buttons are tiny and force you to take an eye off of the road. Bit high fuel consumption for 4cyl. engine. Bought used with 20K miles on it. First the feature contents is incredible, it has duel sunroof, CD/casset/6speaker sound system that sounds terrific, body spoiler, fog light, auto on/off light, day time driving light, keyless/security...should I go on more? You get the picture. It drives small and feels small and nimble, surefooted all the time even in rainy day. The great handling, big cargo/interior room, duel sunroof and sharp styling in and out are the strong points. The brake is way too mushy(?) and hard to feel how hard you have to press to come to stop. This might increase a response time when stopping suddenly. I am considering getting a new brake cable. Power isn''t great but it''s suitable for most of the city/highway driving. Engine is pretty rough and sounds coarse, which I kinda like cuz it sounds like a sports car but it might be little noisy to some people. Some building quality issues, some interior panels came off but it was put back in place easily too. Verdict: I am the only one who is driving Legacy GT wagon and I like it! : ) Very high feature content and good daily commuter and GT just sounds cool! Similar Products Used: Nissan Altima |
