very reliable, very stable, quick and nimble for a 1.9 4 cyl. not expensive at all. good dealer service, good head room for a 6' person, good trunk space. awesome looks - should have kept the style longer, nice interior style, leather wrap steering wheel is same exact wheel in the early 90's lotus. that's good for the SC2 or bad for the Lotus huh?
Weakness:
should have at least +10 bhp, should have narrower gaps between panels, doors should have stiffer hinges i am well satisfied with my SC2. i have no regrets or anything bad to say about my "Green Hornet II" (Green Hornet I was a 74 Morris Marina i owned in Britain.) i have 189,653 miles on the odometer to date, (in storage for 1.5 yrs.) it is still running like a champ with a few modifications to the spark plugs, air intake and tires. i just replaced the clutch for the first time at 189,300 miles, unreal. first gear is a bit stiff to get into since the tranny is reaching its day. people still wonder about this car and think it's a 97 or 98. amazing. The Green Hornet has given me no problems except within the last year and only minor ones like seat wear, spoiler color fading, gas consumption...or is that MONEY for gas consumption........l'chaim Similar Products Used: honda prelude was rougher ride and not as nimble, owned a 69 malibu in high school wish the SC2 had its engine....well then it would've need wings... Weakness:
This car is such a lump that even my old Dodge Colt will smoke it. I dont even think if you put a turbo and exhaust on this car that it would be fast. The body is junk and my milage is not that great either. This car is way over priced and I would recommend a Aries over this pig. My fat mother dosent fit in it and I am not going to drive a van to get her around. I would suggest not even looking at onw. I would reccomend going in and looking at the Sales Men they are very hot. Just like me all 15 inches and all. Similar Products Used: 1989 Dodge Colt DL100 Turbo |

Sporty for a 4 cylinder, easily customizable, simple and effective layout of controls. It's an awesome car for those under 6'2".
Weakness:
Somewhat cramped interior for tall people...hmm that's about it Got it a few months ago, put in a sound system, it sounds great. I had a problem with it pulling to the left, so I took it back to the deal, they fixed it, gave me a free tank of gas, 2 new tires, and a free oil change. Similar Products Used: None |

Let me think for a minute. Well I guess I like the plastic body panels. The finish has also held up well, considering its lack of care.
Weakness:
Everything from the powertrain to the interior. This car has a 1.9-2.0 litre twin cam engine, with absolutely no power. Even though it is attached to a slush box it should not be as slow as it is. I am 6'00 tall and my head hits the ceiling, interior pieces are falling off and there are various rattles. Car only has 60k on it and the alternator and entire ignition system failed. Brakes are horrible. Non din sized radio makes an aftermarket replacement impossible. Huge trunk hinge pieces reduce effective storage volume of the trunk. The key to this car has fit three other Saturns. I would not recommend this car, it does nothing well but take up a parking space and cost me money!!! Gas mileage is great, sporty looking. Nice little car that I never worry about starting in 100+ weather or -10!
Weakness:
Loved the look but after 7 months is seems to small. Doesn't help I have a boyfriend who is 6'2 and hates getting in it. I didn't opt for all the extras that come with the SC2 and that is my major regret. If youre loking for a small sport car I would recommend the Saturn. However there are so many compact cars on the market now that are around the same price that come with many additional options..I would look seriously before purchasing. if you plan on driving more than 200 miles anywhere, this car gets mighty uncomfortable. The seats are severly lacking for lumbar/back support. Similar Products Used: None |

Service - Saturn is the bomb when it comes to service. Reliability, good gas mileage (especially w/ prices rising...suck it up SUV owners!). Sticks to the ground on turns, on dry pavement. Generic sound system does the job. And scratches from 'dings' don't leave dents, and are easily polished out.
Weakness:
Handles poorly in snow. NOISE! It's a rattle trap after 2.5 years! Wind noise at higher speeds. And if you drive over a puddle, the sound comes through the doors. Space - the seats don't go very far back and I'm a tall, long person. The passenger seat is even more restrictive, so no tall passengers! It fights w/ the asian small compact market, yet falls apart quicker. But it's the bomb for reliability, outer new car image retention, and customer service. The customer service has me wanting to stick w/ Saturn for a long time. Similar Products Used: Toyota Celica, used. Or a Saturn, new. Price range was important. I'd take the Celica new over a Saturn new if money was not an issue at the time of purchase. Also tested the Prelude. Ideal car, but no dice. |

Great Handling, very reliable, good gas mileage
Weakness:
Horrible brakes, interior shrinks with age (mine, not the car's), wind noise from windshield above 70mph Great handling car. Very adjustable on the throttle. Really rewards you once you learn how to manage the weight transfer on the stock suspension. Tail slides out very nicely when you get off the gas to tightnen your line around a corner. Pedals are well positioned for my style of heel/toe but the hinged accelerator annoys me. Autocrossed it for a couple of years and was very competitive in DSP, really stuck with Yoko AVSi's. Brakes are crap though, difficult to modulate and really faded by the end of a run. Love the power. Had the car in England for a few years while in the AF. Loved smoking all of those euro hot-hatches (well, short of a Williams Clio or Cosworth Escort). Had a real "what the hell is that?" appeal. Everyone asked if it had a V-8. My Sat'run now has 74,000mi on it and has been very reliable. The car survived three winters parked outside in Alaska. She started up every morning in -10F weather despite not having a block heater or battery blanket. The original battery lasted over 7 years, amazing. It worked suprisingly well as a snow car with studs on, although "dumb" abs was actully a hinderance when it came time to stop. The RH engine mount desintegrated at 50K mi, probably due to the cold, and the snow ripped off the black air dam under the front bumper, which caused cooling problems once summer came around. There's always been a strange clicking noise coming from the left front wheel well, and I've never been able to find out what it is. Other than that, it's been a jewel. Added Eibach springs a few years ago. It took awhile to sort out the alignment set-up, but once I got that squared away it like having a whole new car--lots of fun. K&N cone filter really makes great induction noises and adds a little throttle response, I recommend it to any DOHC owner. This car has been a champ. I may own other cars in the future, but I'll always keep the 'Run. Similar Products Used: None |

I have a 95 saturn sc2,and for a six year old car this thing moves(with a few mods.-exhaust,intake,and plugs and wires). Bought at 71K and have 90K now(like to drive), only ten months old, not a single prob. Bought an extended warr., shoot don't even need it. The body style is very nice. People always ask if it is brand new. The car just goe, and goes, and goes. Ok, hondas, mitsubishi, and nissans, and a few mustangs, you dont stand a chance with a slightly modified saturn that can hang with a 5.0 Mustang GT with manual(yes, I did lose in the drag race, but only by a car length at about 95-100 mph) Not bad for four banger six years old. Love this car.
Weakness:
Ok the stereo has to go, my model has that wierd sized stereo with tape deck that i cant seem to find a dash kit for to change it to a new stereo. The interior is small, but who needs a back seat. The motor does get a little noisy at about 4000-5000-rpm, but that could be my intake, but did it before the change. Other then that there really aren't any weaknesses to a saturn. I recommend a saturn to anyone that wants reliability, quality, and just a fun car to drive. It gets good gas mileage(mine used to before the mods, and the new lead foot i have). It has very up to date styling, which doesn't get old. They make good used cars too, for those like me that don't have a lot of money to spend on new car. To everyone reading this, get into a saturn, modified or not, and drive it like you stole it. When done tell me or any saturn owner you wouldn't want one to play with. Once again, love this car and plan on getting the new 2001 sc2 soon, but will have to make a few changes of course. Buy saturn and go home happy camper. Similar Products Used: Ok, I have tried the Hondas, Nissan 300zx(goddly car for 10 years old), and even a pontiac sunfire GT, if comparable, and still have to go with the saturn. Just has better quality, and quicker(except maybe the 300zx). |

Nice aggresive front end. Good look from behind, though tinted/clear tails aren't available yet(Hey! Aftermarket, WAKE UP !!!)As for performance, Honda's were my primary concerne since I discovered VTEC(RESPECT!)and asside from the SiR, everything is history. Thanks to my SC2 torque at 122pounds while honda's....well.....let me just say that a Type-R has only 77pounds (okay...with 195hp...but still) so my general impression of my lil'sc2 would be = hum....peppy. Not more. It kicks any Si and under (oh sorry for USA readers it would be any ex and down not YOUR SI for christ sake !!)Neons are though match up on tha drag strip. The Expresso Neon is just a lil'faster then me(depends whos driving the Neon) a/p torque and Hp's are higher. Good handling as one of the previous guys said; As long as you switch you Firehawks (beurk!) tires.....comfort is ok and occupants in the back benefit now of more head and leg room compared to my previous SC2(which "felt" a bit quicker since it was lighter). I like the new and improved steering wheel, and a good decision by the Corp.was to let go the "in-track-and-freeze-there-in-tha-winter" seat belts.
Weakness:
The person who said that his Saturn has good braking power drives probably only on sundays, since I DO push my baby a lot, and to my opinion,I drive well(downshifting all of them except 1st of course !All with the lil'pop of the gaz so that the weight transfer isn't too much solicitated or felt....by the way, try it, you'll see a great improvement on your high speek braking.....ok I've played too much GT2 and saw too much Japanees videos!)but EVEN with that, going 120(or 70mph) or more then that, brake fade is terrible on that car !!! It did happen some times where I had to use the handbrake for extra power!! Okay a Saturn is not a race car but you want the thruth, I was racing Neons and old integras and braking power is one of it's weakest point. There's the side winds that will give you problems also on the highway, maybe a good 1.5-2 inch drop would help me but then again, on a lease, I won I would recommend an SC2 to any couple or young families. Families with teenagers will find this car not practical on long trips. Anybody who is tired of Hondas (though since I rode my friends hybrid:89 civic hatchback with a GSR in it = OUCH ! PLEASE MOVE ASSIDE !!I understand and love more Vtec technology) If you already have one and would like to modify it, try Saturn Performance System, they're the most complete aftermarket site for saturns enthousiasts. Let's face it, this is a Saturn, a name which traditionally evokes images of a boxy, boring economy car, but if you don't have much money to spend/want a first car that stands out a bit from the competition, I'd recommend the SC2. While a far cry from a Sports/GT Car, as catagorized in magazines, it does have a torquey engine, which feels faster then it really is. Handling is another strong point of this car, which is often overlooked. Knowing the limits of this car, combined with a good set of tires, and you'll find this car can out-handle the typical competition of a Cougar, a Neon, a Civic Si, Sunfire, not to mention the occasional Mustang (!). In addition, the dent-proof panels are a HUGE bonus. I've been rear-ended three times in this car (joys of high school parking lots), and you would never be the wiser, even under close inspection.
Weakness:
Major Quality Issues, engine seized after 30,000 miles, 2 weeks after oil change (mysterious loss of a few quarts of oil). Rattles everywhere, with the most common solution being a good smack to the problem area. First Saturn owned had different hubcabs on opposite sides of car. In the hands of a skilled driver, with a manual tranmission, this car really can be fun (seriously). Learn the limits, and you'd be surprised what this little coupe can do around the twisties. It does have quality issues, but it's still reliable enough, and taking it to the dealership isn't quite as bad as dealing with the people at Dodge, though far from BMW. If you want to have a safe, reasonably cheap car to give your favorite teenage driver, get a Wrangler. If you want something that had good gas mileage, can get banged up a bit, and may even provide the illusion you're moving faster than you may believe, check out the SC2. Personally after a new sound system (Saturn radio is HORRIBLE!!!), some little mods like Super White Headlights, new Driving Lights (Saturn foglights are worthless), a MOMO shifter, some custom painting (spray painted the cupholders and center storage bin...very sweet), and some TLC, you'll have a good little car which is better than most of the things being driven around town Similar Products Used: BMW Z3 and Ducati Monster 900- The race horses of the stable, but sadly, I don't get to drive these on a daily basis |
