Strength:

Its fast for its class, good engine, good power, good handling, nice leather interior, cool sunroof, performance tires, looks awesome, nicely styled tail and front end. brakes excellent. very comfortable and lots of fun to drive

Weakness:

maybe the backseat is a little small, but who the hell cares. nobody ever sits there anyway

i would recommend this car to anyone who wants a good value and good reliable transportation. it's fast, stylish and sporty. and on top of that its not expensive and reliable! what else do you want? if people complain that they have problems with them, maybe you shouldn't beat it to the ground and expect it to work like the first day you drove it off the lot. i have nothing but great times with mine!

Strength:

The dent-resistant panels have come in handy many times. I side-swiped a pillar in a parking garage once....I knocked the passenger mirror off and scratched the door panel - lets just say that I would have a gouge along the side if it wasn't made of polymer plastic. A lot of my friends' cars have sustained dents and WILL rust eventually. Mine car never will :-)
I like the design of the interior. I love the fact that it's not a generic Honda (there's just WAY too many on the road, hence, no originality).

Weakness:

Lack of power when merging onto freeways. Uses alot of oil (at first I was worried that it might be burning oil, but I heard this is normal for Saturns.) The plastic exterior squeaks and rattles (I drown it out with the stereo).

I love my car. I installed an aftermarket stereo/cd changer, added after market rims/tires and I plan on adding the Wings West full body kit (and eventually a huge spoiler) by June 2001. Saturn is the next tuner-car craze.
The only maintenance I have had to perform (besides oil changes) since I bought her in August 1998, cost me about $200.00 Canadian. I needed new spark plugs and wires last September (it was running on 3 cylinders!!!).
My car had about 40,000 km's when I bought it. It now has almost 110,000.
Those who don't care about horse power should buy a Saturn.

I would by another Saturn. This time a yellow 2001 SC1/2 Coupe.

I have one thing to say. This car will never dent or rust, and I can't say that for most other cars.

Weakness:

Tall people and large chested people hate the passenger seat!
I have experienced spark plug failures/corrosion on spark plug connections/failure to start within the first three months of owning/continues to fail to start/coolant lights within first year.
Attempts to have problems addressed could not be duplicated. No one within service department (Car has an extended warranty through 75,000 miles.) caught the repeated spark plug failures over 6000 miles distance. Someone installed a new "whatever." As a result my car stalled in an intersection and required a new crankshaft module. This having been replaced in November; as I type this note, my car is back in service bay at 71,000 requiring a new battery and alternator.

I will never, ever, ever own another Saturn. I was excited about the product and the company philosophy. No MORE. I would never wish a Saturn on my worst enemy.

Nissan Sentra had better pep and power. It required only two services over seven years. I haven't had my Saturn as long and I go to the service center every 3000-6000 miles and still haven't gotten a doughnut or received an invitation to the barbeque. What does that say about Saturn's treatment of problem car customers.

It's a cute girl car!! (sorry guys) Doesn't look like everything else on the roads. Plastic side panels!!! Not a single dent or ding on my car!!!!

Weakness:

Crappy back seats, substandard customer service at dealership....Saturn of Bangor, ME.

I bought this car as an alternative to Japanese and other domestic cars because it had a unique appearance and what seemed as a good company philosophy. It was my first new car, yet it performed like a ten year old beater during my first six months of ownership. It went into the shop at least ten times, did not start on me at least a dozen, and when it finally was "repaired", it broke down shortly thereafter. Apparently a problem with a fuel delivery sensor of some sort.(<---????) Since then,it hasn't had any MAJOR problems with the exception of going through batteries like it ran on them....incidentally the thing accelerates in the same manner...
It has, however, provided me with almost 70,000 miles of more or less problem free driving....(knock on wood).

They are safe. Great sound. You can't dent these cars, just like on the commercials. They don't ruct. Looks sporty. Really safe cars. Saturn Customer Service is top-notch. Fast acceleration, sounds good too. Not too bad on gas unless you like to floor it when accelerating, that really burns it. Oh yeah, did I mention that they are REALLY SAFE!

Weakness:

Lack of power. Kinda small for someone my height (6'0), sometimes rear-view mirror blocks my view ahead. Back seats are small, hard to get in and out of them.

I'm 17 and have been driving the saturn almost daily for over a year now. I think it's a great looking car and it handles very well. Fast to accelerate and break. This car is strong. Not just the dent-resistant polymer panels, but the car structure. I was in a car accident a few months ago, I got T-boned on the drivers side by a 99' jeep grand cherokee going about 45-50 mph, I didn't even get a scratch, in any other car I would've been toast! The car has now been repaired, (no frame damage at all!!), looks and runs good as new, and I enjoy driving it more than ever. Oh, and by the way, the Jeep ended up being totalled.

I like the saturn much more now then when we first got it, now knowing how safe it really is. It looks great and is one of the safest cars on the road in my opinion.

It also surprises other people out there when I race. When we stop at a light, the saturn can get a really good jump on them, I've beaten almost everyone I've raced even though it only has about 100hp. I guess they figure that it's not too fast, and before they know it, I'm down the street.

The best part about saturn is their customer service, it can't be beat. They are friendly and really know how to treat there customers, no hassels. You want something fixed, no problem, it's done when they say it will be done, not hours/days later. Plus the saturn picnics are fun!

Besides the Saturn, I've only driven a 98' Chevy pick-up. They're too different to compare.
I really want to get an Acura Integra Type-R, or a 99' Mitsubishi Eclipse GST and buy a few aftermarket products. Also wouldn't mind the 1981 Trans AM Turbo Special Edition that my mom used to drive, that was a sweet car! Or my dad's old Austin Healy, 180 mph, oh yeah baby.

Strength:

When I first bought the car, I think I bought it mostly for its looks. It was a sharp little car that looked different from a lot of the cars on the road, and it had its own unique qualities. I haven't had the oil problems that other owners complain about, and the dealership where I bought it was very nice and cooperative (except they wouldn't give me crap for my trade-in, a '94 Saturn SL. So I sold it outright to someone the day I put it in the paper).

Weakness:

Shifting this thing gets old after a while. It should shift like butter, but it doesn't. And the clutch is a little hard to push down to the floor, as compared to other stick shift vehicles I've owned. Also, it's a pain to get in and out of because it's so close to the ground. I don't like the way the driver's seat is positioned (so close to the floor). I had problems with the driver's side door not staying open while getting out of the car, but that was less than $100 to repair. I also had problems with the car being hard to start, but when I took it in it turned out to be the fuel pump, which I was pleasantly surprised to find out was a recall/warranty. I saved hundreds of dollars!

Since I bought it in March of 2000, I've had relatively few problems with the car. It's been pretty much reliable.

Similar Products Used:

As I said before, comparing other stick shift cars such as a '94 Corolla, the other cars shifted smoother.

Great car for back and forth to work and school. Great mileage

Weakness:

Horrible radio and oil intake

My overall impression with this car has been great. I do have to hit the side of the radio console when it gets fuzzy and seems to drop out from time to time. It soaks up oil like an alcoholic drinks beer. It does have a fairly large trunk space for a little car. My boyfriend complains of not having enough leg room, though. Gas mileage is great. I feel like the dealership overcharged me the last time I went in though. It was over $80 for an oil and filter change and tire rotation. It seemed a bit much to me, so I probably will not have it serviced there anymore. I wanted a cute-looking sports-type of car, so for the stereotype, this car is perfect for me. The salesman really worked with me and didn't haggle me a whole lot, he let me think about it and make my own decision, unlike Ricart Ford (I don't recommend them to anyone, they sent my friend off in tears because of the haggling they did to her.)

great handling, great looking, excellent gas mileage, great company that stands behind it's cars, superior service all around the USA, unbelievably comfortable

Weakness:

none

This car is the family's 3rd Saturn. We've had reliable service from Saturn dealerships all around the country. I've driven this car many times on 7 hour trips only stopping for gas and because of the lumbar support I felt like I had just driven around the corner. Handles good in ice and snow with traction control in upstate N.Y. This car is really fun to drive. Often I hate when the ride is done. She gets almost 40 miles per gallon.

Best qualities include Great handling, can be pretty quick (with the right driver), not many problems, good gas mileage, and not real dents due to the different plastic body.

Weakness:

This thing really goes through the oil! It is unbelievable! actually just broke down on me yesterday. It needs a new fuel pump and it is going to be exspensive. A $400 part! I heard they almost always go bad on these cars. It also rides a little rough at times, but lets hope that was because of the fuel pump.

Well I think that I got this car, because it was sold at a great price and looked pretty good when compared to other cars in that price range. As an 18 year-old with small income i also loved the idea of the gas-mileage being pretty good.

Timing CHAIN!! no belts as in Honda and just about every other similar car. DENT RESISTANT DOORS, sporty looks I haven't grown tired of. GREAT GAS MILEAGE, DEPENDABLE, HANDLING (slips a little in ice but hey its not a four wheel drive)

Weakness:

cup holders, stiff clutch, probably not great for a tall person. Saturn has listened to us and the new models have decent cup holders and better clutches.

I love my Saturn SC2. I got it with all the bells and whistles and haven't regretted it. It handles well. It accelerates well at the higher rpms (Hwy speed) and if you torque up the rpm off the line you can blow the new BMW sports car's doors off!! The body still looks new when I get to see it once a year when I wash it or take it to the dealer for routine maintenance (they always wash it for me.) Had it been any other car. it would look like sh... I can't say enough about the dent resistant door panels. Although I don't care how clean my car is as a previous jet engine mechanic I do care about how well it runs. My engine has needed nothing but routine maintenance over the last 3.5 years. The only actual repair I had was the sun roof motor. Overall a great, dependable car. I'm sure my next car will be a Saturn.
