Strength:

Smooth, cute, the little "PONTIAC" light up sign in the back is unique, fun to drive, nice sized glove box, moon roof is very nice, no major, major problems after 72,000 miles.

Weakness:

Seatbelt covers broke off when we had the windows open one day from the wind, middle console latch busted for no reason, radio SUCKS, latch in the back seat to pull it down for more room just pulled out, light in the trunk fell out, exterior paint scratches VERY easily, exterior dents VERY easily (look out in parking lots for stray carts!), had to replace the clutch after 45,000 miles (just won''t purchase another manual transmission car again), brakes were replaced a few times (normal wear & tear?), Very small back seat...no room for people larger than midgets, power locks no longer work.

This was my first new car which I got when I was 18 so at the time I was nothing but stoked. I could''ve cared less about performance, realiablity, etc. As long as it looked good...which the Sunfire does. I also just HAD to buy a car during GM''s strike back in 98 so the pickings were slim reflecting the incredible cost...still kicking myself in the ass for that one. Overall it''s an alright car, my husband and I do beat the crud out of it driving everywhere but it''s the little things that let me down. Now looking for another car...thinking of getting the Galant or a Jetta. But NOT another Pontiac.

not one darn thing THIS CAR IS A LEMON AND WHO EVER BUYS IT IS STUPID AND BETTER HAVE A LOT OF MONEY TO KEEP ON THE ROAD!!!

Weakness:

brakes cooling engine slow as a geo metro i think the geos engine is what powers it electrical Oh and dont even think of installing a after market sound system because its hard as hell i had to gut the interior to put one in down to the carpet and even then i still cracked my head under the dashboard.

This car blows big time their no good things to say about this car. Have you ever heard the term desposible well this car is the ultimate definition. Everything breaks on it. To tell you the truth i think that is where GM makes their money buy parts a service for the stupid thing. DON''''''''T BUY THIS CAR I MEAN IT IF YOU HAVE ONE YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH IT. and GM if you read this please stop making this car PLEASE!!!! no more junk PLEASE!!!! Oh and the Engins blow at 65k miles just to let u know.

Strength:

THIS CAR HAS NONE. IT IS A HORRIBLE CAR WITH HUGE REPAIR BILLS.

Weakness:

I REPLACED THE CARS RACK AND PINION, SHIFT LINKAGE, COMPUTER, TRANSMISSION, ENGINE, WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTER, ALTENATOR ALL BEFORE THE CAR HAD 80,000 MILES ON IT.

THIS CAR WAS NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. I WOULD NOT RECOMMMEND THIS CAR TO ANYONE WHO VALUED THEY''RE MONEY OR TIME. I SPENT MORE TIME WAITING FOR THE CAR TO BE FIXED THAN I DID DRIVING THE CAR. ALSO GM WOULD NOT CONSIDER THIS CAR TO BE A LEMON OR RECALL ANY OF THE PARTS EVEN AFTER THERE WAS EVIDENCE THAT IT WAS THERE DOING. I WAS VERY DISPLEASED WITH THE CAR AND GM AND WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GM PRODUCT EVEN IF YOU PAID ME TO.

Strength:

Sporty look, great on gas and roomy interior. Big trunk and large enough backseat to accommodate my very large dog. The A/C is c-c-c-old and the heat very hot.

Weakness:

Seems to attract door-dings in parking lots, and I have to agree that the cupholder is useless unless you stuff a few napkins in there to tighten things up.

I have had the PLEASURE of owning my Sunfire for a year and a half. For 12 years prior to buying it, I was driving a ''77 Corvette (still have it) but needing a car I could drive year round - decided to get a reliable car - good on gas, that still looked sporty. My Sunfire has been wonderful! No problems - just the regular required maintenance (oil changes, etc. In reading the other reviews here, alot of people seem to think this is a sports car, and ultimately drive them like one - into the ground. If they want to drive like Mario Andretti, they should purchase a car that is designed to be driven like that. When I feel the need to drive hard and fast, I pull the Vette out. I am going to drive the Sunfire the way it should be driven and hope I get many more miles from it, with limited trips to the shop!

Strength:

Drives nice, seats are comfortable - similar to my old car. Love the CD player, and now that I have a real trunk, I can get a disk changer. Woohoo! I got the 4 speed automatic transmission and it''s great. (Yes I know I''m getting old! - 33!)

Weakness:

I''m short, the seatbelt cuts me in the neck (I''ve ordered a doohickey to fix this) no adjustment possible except in the sedan model. I have one squeak in the dash. Car goes faster than you think it''s going. I''m catching myself speeding a lot, gonna have to start watching my speedometer more.

So far I really like this car. I gave up a 1986 Fiero for it. (The Fiero was my baby for 11 years). I''m glad to have a car with airbags, front wheel drive and ABS. After reading reviews of 1999 and older Sunfires, I''m also glad mine came with a 3yr B to B warranty. Hopefully if I have any "gremlins", I can get them out by then. This is not meant to be a race car. If you want to drive like you''re in the Indy 500 get a Camaro (with airbags :-)

N/A WELL THE CUP HOLER IS IN A BAD SPOT

I LOVE THIS CAR. I HAVE 68,000K ON IT AND HAD NO PROB WITH IT. FORM THE DAY I BOUGHT IT. THE POWER IS THERE, CONFORT,LOOKS. THE SUNFIRE HAS IT ALL. IVE DONE A LOT TO IT SENSE IVE HAD IT. AND BEING ONLY 21 YEARS OF AGE I RACE IT ALL THE TIME. AND SEEMS THE HARDER I DRIVE IT THE BETTER IT RUNS. THE ONLY THING MANT I HAD TO DO IS BRAKE SERVICES . PADS AND CUT ROTORS BUT THATS ALL. O AND TO LET YOU KNOW MY FORMER CAR WAS A 91 CAVALIER WHEN TRADING THAT IN ON THE SUNFIRE. IT HAD 225,256K ON THE OD AND IT HAD THE SAME ENGINE AS MY SUNFIRE SO . I DONT THINK I WILL GET RID OF HER AND GIVE HER TO MY CHILDREN SOME DAY TILL THEN ILL JUST BUY A NEW SUNFIRE!

Strength:

Decent gas mileage. HP is good for a 4 cylinder. No problems untill 80,000 miles, then all at once!

Weakness:

There are rattles everywhere, more and more every day. Exhaust was bad from day one. Two power steering pumps and two water pumps in the last year. Has an intermittant wiring/computer problem that no one can duplicate, sometimes car won''t start for hours. There are oil, power steering and coolant leaks. Headlights are very weak, I drive with my brights on to see anything, never been flashed.

It started out to be a pretty good car. No major problems in the first two years, just maintenence (brakes, tires, oil change, etc.). Now it''s one thing after another. I would not buy another sunfire.
