Strength:

Cheap and easy to park....

Weakness:

Gas mileage, GM not willing to do any warranty work on it, poor acceleration.

I don''t know where to start! When I first bought the car I got 660 kms to a tank of gas.... now, only 6 months later, I am getting 300 to 350 kms per tank. Also I have a bad gas smell by times inside the car, even after it has sat overnight. This occurs before I even have the keys in the ignition. I took it to the dealer and was told that they could not "duplicate" the problem. I''ve been told that one of the injectors is not working, but they won''t replace it until they know "which injector" it is. My gas bill has tripled since purchasing the car in June, and I am severely pissed-off. The whole reason behind buying this car was for the great gas mileage. What a joke. Has anyone else incurred this problem with a 2001 model?

Nice looking car. Comfortable - fun to drive. Fold down seat a plus if you need the additional space like I do.

Weakness:

Dangerous electrical problem in steering column. Thin body metal - dents easily from other car doors and shopping carts.

Loved the car for the first 50.000 miles. Beware of electrical problems! I''ve had the car almost seven years and one evening last week the steering column caught fire. I read another review on this website that mentioned the car catching fire so there is definitely a danger issue here. The car is considered totaled. Air conditioner broke down over a year ago. I would not recommend anyone buying.

Strength:

Good styling Engine has a good deal of giddyup for a 4 cylinder Back seat space isn''t too bad Very reasonable cargo space Apparently builty very solid. (I''ve been in one or two minor run-ins, and no damage has been done to the car) Lots of storage space inside the car (especially the glove compartment) good sound system very good value overall

Weakness:

can get a little hard to manuever in the snow sometimes I''m a bass player for a band, and it''s very hard to carry my gear in this car, so more storage space would always be nice, the small opening for the trunk needs to be improved for sure

After having being taken by a "for sale by owner" car, I decided to go a little more expensive on this car and i started shopping the dealers. Immediately, the Sunfire selections caught my eye. I must admit it was hard to maintain my objectivity with such good looking cars...finally after test driving 3-4 of them, i picked out a dark green SE Coupe with a Sunroof. And since then, I haven''t had any problems, and i am often commented on the looks of my car. It drives well in the snow, but it is clearly built for the summer weather.

Strength:

The car is very quiet inside... mine has been sound proofed though .The stereo CD is second to none ,the controls are easy to use and the sound is loud and clear. As far as motor power , my car is awsome with the new ecotec motor that has taken over from the 2.4 litre . I find that you just have to touch the accelerator to fly .heating is good in the car but the rear window is hard to clear possibly due to the angle of the window.Style of the car ,to me is beautiful , mine is the four door GTX in ultra silver .

Weakness:

so far the only problems to occur with this vehicle are that of the electronic door opener . I have found that in cold weather it loses distance but still works . I should also mention that again in cold weather the drivers side door window does not work until the car is very warm...and no it is not frozen .I have also observed that the front seat cushions are a little shorter than I am used to .Lastly , on very cold days the back end has a booming sound until i hit a few road bumps .. could be ice though.

Stylish , excellent power ,quiet with beautiful stereo sound system .Love the traction control and anti lock breaks in icy conditions .

Probably the only good thing I can say about this car is that my husband and I weren''t killed whene the car caught on fire.

Weakness:

Obviously everything!!!!

To anyone who has thought of buying this car, I would strongly encourage you NOT to. I bought this car brand new and have had nothing but problems. All of them ending in it the piece of crap catching on fire in Jan 2002. We have had the computer replaced twice and the radio replaced four times. We also have had problems with the ignition and the alarm. I beleive there are some serious electrical problems with this model, and not just our car alone. To anyone else out there who has had the same problems...Trust me, you are not the only one!!

Strength:

I''ve driven 50k miles in two years with no major repair bills. Just lots of tires, brakes, and oil changes. Pretty good... always lease, never buy. Junk between 70k-100k++

Weakness:

Crappy electrical system, poor mechanical knowledge on how to fix problems, won''t start if u let it sit. crap crap

I bought it used, with 38,500 miles on it in August of 1999. The first year or so, was great. Always reliable, fun, quick, sporty. But soon enough, there was a funny noise coming from the engine, it was the air compressor< I refuse to pay GM 800 bucks to fix a non-essential thing. (The AC/still works). The windshield washer pump died at 80k miles. Ever since 50,000 miles, you can''t let it sit over 12 hours if its cold/wet outside, because it won''t start. Either the electrical system is shot, or there''s a gasket problem that lets in moisture... or both. Although, there''s been no mechanic that can diagnose the problem. Not to mention... get this.. on slippery roads, when the ABS kick in... The headlights dim, and the heater fan slows down. When the radio is turned up, the clock display dims with the hard beats... I''m looking for a new car, and never ever a sunfire again...

Easy to handle, good ride, cute little stylish car.

Weakness:

Multiple trips to the shop

If you own a Sunfire you may or may not be one of the unfortunate owners of this model. I bought my car new in 2000, was very pleased with it for about the first three months. Have had multiple trips to the shop since, worried that when my warranty is up in another 2M miles that I will be stuck with costly repairs. I would not think that a car should spend very much time in the shop. I think mine knows the way. Why would you need multiple brake jobs, rotors replaced (2 times), struts replaced, steering shaft replaced, etc.... on a new car? Almost sounds like it was in a wreck. Are we really getting what we are paying for? I dont believe so. I am thinking that the Subaru Forester that I was looking at, might have cost a little more but maybe I would have been better off. I you are thinking about buying a Sunfire, I would talk at great length with the service manager at the dealership prior to purchase. You may save yourself a lot of frustration.

Model Reviewed: Sunfire GT

Strength:

The strengths of the Sunfire GT are the 2.4-liter engine with 150 horsepower. The 5-speed manual transmission is a joy to shift and the steering and handling are exceptional. The braking is also great.

Weakness:

My only complaint about the Sunfire GT is the lack of a rear window defroster! Whoever designed that didn''t live in a cold environment! In the winter I can''t see out of my back window, even after I''ve scraped it on the outside because it just freezes over again.

Overall, the Sunfire is a great little car. I own the GT model, and the extra horsepower is definitely noticeable. The brakes are also excellent and the ABS is a great standard feature. The steering is right-on and may be a little sensitive for people not used to such delicate responses.
